After just lifting the back end up and pumping forever they realized hey the front end is still in the water and a genius said "maybe another crane???"
by the way.. one can Staple on canvas over open holes in the sides of wooden boats. when you are trying to refloat them. if you can get the bow up.. you can drag a big piece of canvas or tarp under the bow and lash it to the rail so the sides are now far more water proof.
Builders plastic works a treat too (The stuff you line interior walls with). And you can even get the vaccum of the pumps to suck the material into the holes that need filling. A great example is if you search for "Adventures of Glimt" here on youtube. Two guys raising a traditional wooden Norwegian fishing boat this way.
My Uncle bought a 36 foot shrimp boat in the 70s. He didn't want anyone to steal the batteries so he took them out when he wasn't using the boat. We had a week of heavy rain and since the batteries were not in the boat the bilge pumps didn't work. YEP it sunk at the dock.
Anytime your doing something like this anywhere on the planet, there's the old guy that comes and stands in the way right in the middle of everything. I think there is like a union of them or something. And if you talk to them or tell them to move, they usually speak incoherent jibberish or they are deaf and oblivious.
This reminds me of a man in England who had a small 25' canal boat, he decided to install an inboard engine instead of the outboard that was fitted, trying to save money as he was a bit of a skinflint he hired two auto mechanics instead of someone who knew a bit about boats, as the boat was already fitted with a stern tube which was blanked off they proceeded to cut the end off to install the shaft, this did not go well as the boat was in the water, as the water rushed into the boat causing it to sink leaving the two men swimming to the bank and abandoning the project, a few days later the owner rang the local marina and was quoted around a £1000 to crane the boat out and place it on dry land, being a skinflint he decided to ring around different companies to see if anyone would do it cheaper, he found a company who offered to lift the boat for half the original quote, so he employed them, they arrived on time and set about putting on the slings, once this was done they began the lift, unfortunately not having lifted a sunken boat before they just pulled her up in one swift move without allowing the water to drain as she came up, all of a sudden she snapped completely in two, the owner sat on the bank looked on and said well that's that then, he got into his car and i have never seen him to this day, that was over 15 years ago. the moral of the story is always employ someone who knows what they are doing and don't be a skinflint.
It’s cost a lot of money to put on the slip to maintain any type of sea crafts putting fuel cost money it’s dead money why I rather a simple out board on a dingy if I want to take time on the water hire a house boat cheaper less of a money pit it’s a shame so many nice boats sink cause of this situation
FAKE NAME ok fake name , I welcome your response and provide reasonable feed back any thing that sits in the water more than 6 months ( talking from Australian waters) with wood hulls mainly the weather over time as worked a chef on a paddle steamer that never got scraped or painted it was a shit storm waiting to happen as the captain was explaining now any vessel that u can take out water is great but anything stays in needs to be placed on a slip painted and restored as creaks have parasite know as wood worm that destroys the wood to place n a slip cost a lot money time expensive paint thus my comment if this isn’t self explanatory sorry don’t waste my time writing back telling me something different
FAKE NAME pmsl I am talking about any vessel living in water not on that u can put a trailer take home for another after i grew up on a 32 foot boat learning about the sea from my grandfather who built in and up also serving in Air Sea Rescue for 3 years and also did life saving and basic marine biology native to Australia and watching wankers like ur self who want to be out spoken voice and think u know more than me crawl back in ur shell and stop thinking u can win this cause u may know how to operate a vessel and talk only about boats u take out the water, let’s face it let see ur mate down the road who owns a 52 foot boat place that on his trailer drive it home attached to his ford F100 now go back to ur simple life and stop trying to discriminates my 40 years experience with sea, rivers.
Should have put a half hitch knot some where on that ship.then shouted bring her a stern and the rest of that shite they shout at boat yards .I love it when glasses man corrects spelling mistakes.
Far to many bystanders, a cameraman who is suddenly a marine architect, a dog and no one in a leadership position. A recipe for a lack of success at this stage.
Amazing! I wonder what could have caused such a fine a vessel as that to have sunk..... and the sheer skill of the salvors is a sight to behold.........wonderful!
If you’ve got some spare time there a nice sailboat (in a movie) that hit power lines going under I St bridge on Sacramento River in Sacramento lots of silt by now
I fast forwarded it. Just dropped in to see the progress. Yes, that hull looked like hell. Scrapping for fittings and engine was the best long term option. I suppose that would make it worth raising it as well as clear the marina.
They could have brought it up with a few peaces of plywood a few 2 by4 a couple tarps some sand bags and some rope with one pump. Build a cashion over the hold. Tie it down with the rope .Cover any other openings with plywood and tarp. Then pump out interior. Suddenly it is NOT sunken any more.
Don't have to worry about the dog getting away the guy with the hat was doing a good job. what's with some old man they have to look at things with their hands behind their back like their mothers going to slap their hands for touching something
Louie Louie my guess is that either they had a pump failure and nobody noticed, or there was some rot in the frame and a few fasteners pulled out, opening up seams to the the point where the pumps couldn’t keep up.
because there was a group of people w the river boat casinos that gave a f thats why and built epic s soooooo the western stahhhhad some impressive sales
This is one reason why I have NO use for dogs and few of their owners...there is NO reason for that nuisance dog being on that dock while this recovery was taking place!
Calm down Richard. The dog provided entertainment for the salvage crew. While they were being paid for coffee breaks they had something to stroke that could be seen on this video series. I do not know who paid for this "salvage" but I am wondering why anyone would raise this disaster for any reason other than to scrap the junk.
I've got no sailing experience at all, but even I know that it's a waste of time and energy to bail water out of a boat that's partly under the water you want to remove. Every video I've seen about rescuing a sea-vessel is full of mis-engineering,it's amusing ;-)
17:02 all over the world there's always an old man with cap watching heavy machinery at work...it's a universal fact...ha ha ha
He is helping :D
3dvorator here in germany, always with bike..
This is the most excitement he’s had in years. BTW, thanks for uploading this.
When you are young you do it ...When you are old you watch it!
@@applejewellery old guy here. thanks for the chuckle.
I'm not a treehugger but being raised and in Florida and loving the ocean, I hate to see all the damn oil and fuel in the water
After just lifting the back end up and pumping forever they realized hey the front end is still in the water and a genius said "maybe another crane???"
Edward Schmitt There is a delete button that posters can use to raise their general profile. If need be.
Hey, you scratched my anchor!

But just think how much he saved on the batteries! :)

Were you hoping he'd fall in?
12:30, perhaps the pumps aren't working cause the bow is still submerged?
They just needed to get the old rotten scow out of the marina to make room for a paying customer. They made the insurer clear it out...
Now full of more Mud than water. Suggest renaming "Mary Ellen Carter"!
aye but we all know that means that "she will rise again"
Maybe if they maintained the hull it wouldn't have leaked.
Has it sunk again yet? (How many times?)

Wood boats always leak, so really it comes down to whether the pumps can keep up or not.

charles shipman probably was neglected. Wood boats do need some TLC if you want them to stay afloat.
Putting pumps on the four deck looks more like the one deck unless they count from the bilge or crows nest
13:24 So are we not talking about the fact that pumping out a boat and putting the water back into the boat isnt going to raise the boat pretty welll?
MR blue angry pants. You have people that work and then the angry guy that thinks no one can hear him or do their job right
They need some Flex seal.
Wow what a waste of manpower. Just use airbags and pumps. What a bunch of rookies.
If you’ve got some spare time there a nice sailboat (in a movie) that hit power lines going under I St bridge on Sacramento River in Sacramento lots of silt by now
Wie viel PS hat das Boot ?
Ha ha ha! I had the guy in the blue pegged as the owner. He’s the only guy moving fast. Trying to keep the bill down.
The ship was scrapped, dont wast 4 hours of your life watching this.
PLMFAA!!!!!!
It should have been scrapped long before this.
I fast forwarded it. Just dropped in to see the progress. Yes, that hull looked like hell. Scrapping for fittings and engine was the best long term option. I suppose that would make it worth raising it as well as clear the marina.
Is this at Ladner, or Annisis Slue ?
This isn't salvage , it's just clearing a rotten hulk from the jetty.
Never herd of lift bags???
There is no point in making this comment. Other than thanks for filming and uploading

Good idea. I just would have put two or 3 party balloons in it and up she'd have come.
But why did it capsize and sink ?
because it happens to old, neglected boats.
Jaws the shark on the loose again. call chief Brody !
Looks like a pile of rotten junk.
Is dat Bubby Gumps boat ?
Enormous cranes?? LOL. Ok Dude. Looks like the boat owner was chiefing the job,
incompetently I might add.
Hmmm .. was it really worth it?
Someone got one hell of a bill! Should've had a sump. Maybe a few solar panels to maintain the batteries. Sure would've saved a lot of money!!!
Why not use air bag to raise the bow of boat
Don't have to worry about the dog getting away the guy with the hat was doing a good job. what's with some old man they have to look at things with their hands behind their back like their mothers going to slap their hands for touching something
Shelter Island ?
All that waste of time and money for a pile of worthless junk...
You'd rather just leave it there?
Put a lifting line around the prop shaft....are you fucking kidding me, just leave it on the bottom if this is how you think it's done.
Hey, I painted that big metal dock. Nash why aren't you working?
Sails 6
All the people standing in the way I'd lose my shit
Jack up the boat, and slip a new steel underneath it
Barrington is a free agent
HOW THE FUCK COULD THIS SINK. THIS DID`T SINK OVERNIGHT. MUST HAVE TAKEN COUPLE DAYS. NOBODY SAW A THING.
Why didn’t they just drag it out to deeper water and leave it on the bottom. That boats not worth the salvage cost.
not a capsize, a capsize is upside down.
That starboard side pump was putting back as much as it was pumping out at one stage.
Well, you can't park that like that captain Jack Sparrow.
Wonder if worksafe fined the guy in the blue shirt for no hard hat and flotation device.
He was the boat owner, not a part of the raising crew
That was like watching paint dry.
A sister boat to the Western Flyer ?
And we have 1000!
Why did it sink
Louie Louie my guess is that either they had a pump failure and nobody noticed, or there was some rot in the frame and a few fasteners pulled out, opening up seams to the the point where the pumps couldn’t keep up.
The hull was rotten to the core. They pulled it out and scrapped it. Old video.
Jim Jonrs yup, after watching the whole series it was clearly a basket case with a ton of rot.
I'll buy it!
because there was a group of people w the river boat casinos that gave a f thats why and built epic s soooooo the western stahhhhad some impressive sales
number riddles 4 funn 8 already ee ate???
A lot like watching paint dry.
This is one reason why I have NO use for dogs and few of their owners...there is NO reason for that nuisance dog being on that dock while this recovery was taking place!
I agree. And I have no use for cranky people either.
Calm down Richard. The dog provided entertainment for the salvage crew. While they were being paid for coffee breaks they had something to stroke that could be seen on this video series. Sank at the DOCK?

More like the sunk crusader
re the spillage barrier...all those men with opinions on how it is to be done ...and not a brain in sight
You don't need a brain to have an opinion. That's why opinions are so cheap.
Poor lad.
Gilligans island
Sank by ninja fish
I don't understand how a boat can sink at the dock. No alarms? No pump? No care?
Can I take it for a spin? lol
imran
No
From the looks of it the raising cost more than the boats worth. This group are total Amateurs. Trying to out pump Mother Nature
Gene Miller they probably just wanted to get it out of there so it wouldn’t be a hazard to navigation, not to mention blocking valuable dock space.
That’s probably the reason. I never thought of that one. Seriously I would of drug it to the shallows and burned it.
