Smart decision all around for both Chicago and the Bears organization. Too much to give up if they left. I hope the new stadium will have a beautiful view of both the lake and the city skyline

I wanted them to stay in Chicago, but at the same time, I was excited for them to build a brand new stadium on 326 Ac In Arlington Heights and build everything they wanted, but I love the City of Chicago and I'm very excited for our Bears to stay in Chicago and build a Dome Stadium in Chicago. BEAR DOWN!!
You was on to something with AH but staying in chicago with less land to deal with less job opportunities and its cold asl on that lake front nawh brah they can keep that shit!!!
Honestly it's about time something like this happened in Chicago. I'm actually old enough to remember when a stadium just like this was proposed 35 years ago along with an upgrade to McCormick and was close to being approved in 91 but bickering between the McCaskey's and the mayor Dailey (who by coincidence George and Dailey's father also fought over a new stadium) killed it. Since then I've lived in several different states & after seeing Jerry world I couldn't help but think where the Bears would be if they had just went with building the stadium at McCormick Place because that would've been Jerry World long before that stadium was even built.
Exactly! You could knock out the back rusty half of McCormick Place and build a dome stadium. It would cost more than $2 Billion IMO. Taxpayers would have to fund the other $2-$3 Billion if you want Jerry World or SOFI stadium in current dollars. Not holding my breath, I remember how much acrimony there was between Chicago Park District / Bears management on maintenance fees for the field which players ranked as one of the worst in the NFL. Then former Mayor Lightfoot drove them away with her press ramblings. In between that the Chicago brass and "Friends of the lakefront" drove away a potential $8 Billion in revenue for a Star Wars Museum because they wanted $5 M in donations {cough kickbacks) and minority hiring guarantees. The project was ultimately moved to CA.
It WAS time. Domed was really the way to go, but it still shouldna never been in Arlington Heights. And parking and traffic needs to be improved no matter where they build it. Sounds like Kevin Warren finally understood the assignment.
Yes to a dome!!! With such a beautiful skyline you better still be able to see it from that stadium. The plan is when it first opens they host the super bowl and play in it! Bear Down
Im not glad look at all the potential the bears could have at AH if you love the bears so much why you want less for them dont they deserve the best here my thought give soldier field to the white sox and we could watch them on the lake front when its warm outside!!!
As an out of state Bears fan and usually stay downtown when I’m in town love this. Sorry taxes will probably suck. They’ll probably make that money back developing Arlington heights anyway
I don't see the McCaskey family not paying required taxes on the AH land parcel. They will appeal this all the way to Circuit Court before paying taxes on a $140 M valuation but they will pay the taxes which currently will be around $15 M per year if they accept the board ruling. I still think negotiating the AH land valuation down closer to say $90 M and paying an extra $4M - 5M per year in taxes is a better option than the hurdles that will be faced building a new stadium on the lakefront. I am not convinced yet this is not a smoke screen news story ahead of appeal of the Cook Co. Board ruling on the AH parcel.
Yeah they played thereselves by being greedy. They thought they had all the leverage because the bears had already bought the property but they fooled them. I didn't want them to go to Arlington hts anyway
They're going to pay what's sold. They are landlords now they own that parcel of land. The same as if they owned something else. They will honor their obligation and then they will be renters to someone else who develop the land
There was a comment made by a LA Rams player ( I don't remember who) prior to the 1985 NFC Championship game "They should put a dome over this place" 40 YEARS LATER
That rendition of a possible stadium build at the 1:39 mark. If this is somewhat accurate, it would really showcase the stadium and the city skyline as well. It's been a big question for me ever since there was talk about the Bears staying put at the lakefront. I kept thinking what good does it do to have a stadium built in such a gorgeous area if it's gonna be a dome? Well this addresses that concern quite nicely. But again, is it a realistic rendition and of course even if so, will all sides come together and get this done?
I always hoped the Bears would never play in a dome. The weather elements are a big part of what makes football fun to me. You look at Buffalo, New England, Pittsburgh and even Green Bay, they all play outdoors. The Bears in a dome will feel like a bear in a cage, just wont seem right.😥
Good because i used to live in atl and love the Mercedes Benz Stadium there and would love something like this in Chicago. Also this would lead to the One Central being built
Rivian just stopped the construction of their Georgia factory due to the need to reduce costs so I don't think they are looking to build anything anytime soon.
The ESPN story is no different than when they announced the purchase of the AH property. This is the last sentence in a quote from Kevin Warren - "We look forward to sharing more information when our plans are finalized." I am having trouble discerning how much of this press release is factual and how much is smoke screen. I understand folks are going to put the blame on AH for the tax situation on the former racetrack land. It is actually Cook County Board of Appeal for taxes that set the current land valuation for tax purposes around $140 M and the Bears want it around $70 M. I suspect it would be easier to negotiate a 2-3 year special reduction in commercial property tax for the AH property than all of the red tape Chicago and Cook County will bring for this new domed stadium along the Lake. Please note that taxpayers in IL and Cook County still owe more on bonds for the current Soldier Field than estimated cost when it was built. So good luck getting anything approved with taxpayer funding. You need another $2-3 billion for this new stadium.
I've lived in six other states (including Virginia where I currently live) and another country in Europe as an adult over the last 34 years. Trust me when I say this, Illinois taxes are the most reasonable and lowest especially for what you get in return than just about ANYWHERE else you might want to live. Taxes aren't the end all and be all on whether a state is good to live in rather it's overall cost of living and quality of life which is why I'm coming back to the state when I retire. Also, the once thing I've learned in all the places that I've lived, no matter what (liberal, conservative or whatever) the government is going to find a way to get your money.

Imo its all negotiating leverage to get Arlington heights to re-vote on tax plan or else. This is where Warren is a genius and has Arlington right where He wants them because the city will never offer Bears the stadium control or a big enough piece of land needed to create a 'Jerry World' type resort stadium like Dallas or LA. It would be dumb to shift from a entirely self-contained eco-system that they control for another stadium used for Soccer, Music, Monster trucks and whatever TF else the city can tryn squeeze in there.
