43:11 This game series has some incredible environmental storytelling, as well as little details that just add life to the world. At this part, you heard a phone ringing, but you walked away from it before you hear it get picked up and hear two people have a conversation. Essentially, it's a woman asking about her husband who works at the asylum, if he's ok or not. The person who responds to her turns out to be Joker, who reveals in a very sick, joking way that he only has her husband's head, then says "I'll get back to you when I find the rest of him" Things like this, as dark as they are, fill out the world a lot. Sometimes, standing still or looking around, being patient and exploring (even though you're doing this game for TH-cam) makes for a better experience. That, and it shows that you appreciate the incredible level of work that went into designing this game as well.
In the past two years, these games (specifically in the character bios, the parts that say "first appearance") single-handedly turned me from a casual enjoyer into a complete Batman nerd. I've read so many comics I can't even count, starting all the way back in 1939, and I'm into the comics from 2017 now, still going. It's such an incredible storyverse
As someone that grew up with and adore’s these games, and also a massive DC comics fan, welcome to the community!! Never feel ashamed to ask questions about anything you wanna know when it comes to superheroes. It’s a lot of info and backstory to take in at once when you’re just getting into it, but I’m a firm believer that DC always at leave one hero that can connect someone. Happy to watch you on your journey ☺️
Welcome the Arkhamverse . Have fun and remember your gadgets , upgrades and use detective vision when you get stuck because it will highlight areas for you , and let's you see enemies before they see you.
16:10 -- Stealth isn't your thing? Ooh... a good part of the Arkham games involves stealth. In fact, the BEST boss fight in the whole franchise (it's in Arkham City) is a stealth boss fight. 53:35 -- you should not have moved! You were a second away from an incredible stealth takedown. 55:17 -- if you had picked up the Inverted Takedown upgrade first, this guy would be a breeze. You do *not* have to get the upgrades in the order that they appear. Scroll across that menu, and find what looks good. 1:03:41 -- you found the answer, but you didn't scan it. Actually, if anything tends to stand out, it'll likely be the answer to a riddle. Also, look out for hidden question marks.
i’m definitely learning! did day 3 today and am finally (slowly) getting the hang of stealth…definitely not one of my strong suits but fun to learn! just trying to be patient with myself 😭…also got the inverted takedown which helps a LOT
40:02 Yeah, Barbara has been around for a long time in the comics. Joker shot her through the spine in a story that was released in the late '80s, and she was Oracle for a good 30 or so years before DC rebooted their comic universe (they do that a little too often) and she isn't paralyzed anymore in the new stories. Personally, I liked it better when she was Oracle--she had better stories and more personality during that period.
Playing the Batman Arkham games are no joke. You have to take it seriously and play it like you're being persistent. Also I understand it's your first time. It's not all about having fun.
I'm not sure if you're aware, but unlike some the movies, Joker doesn't wear any make-up. In fact, during his first encounter with Batman, he was disguised as the criminal Red Hood and he accidentally falls in a vat of acidic chemicals and as a result his entire skin is permanently bleached white, his hair is turned naturally green and his lips have a blood red colour. He doesn't wear any make-up whatsoever.
Think of combat from Arkham like a rhythm game. Punch, punch, punch, counter, flip, punch, etc in a steady cadence. Not trying to punch too fast, or waiting too long. Once it clicks, it's like a choreographed dance.
@@sapharic Later games give you bonuses for combat variety and use of gagets as well. You haven't truly lived until you've used five different gadgets to take out a group of thugs and then countered a tv to smash a guy in the face with it. 💥📺
6:47 That is Waylon Jones AKA Killer Croc. To clarify, Waylon isn't an actual crocodile or a mutant. He was a regular person born in Tampa, Forida with an extreme form of the medical condition that resembled Epidermolytic Hyperkeratosis but was in fact a form of severe Atavism, which caused his appearance to develop progressively into that of a crocodile, hence his name. Waylon was put under the guardianship of his incredibly abusive and alcoholic aunt after his mother died giving birth to him and his father had abandoned him. Waylon had no friends, and was the object of constant ridicule of those who knew him and as a result he grew to resent all of humanity. Because of his condition a lot of people aren't even aware that Waylon is African American.

Well thank goodness you started with Arkham Asylum as your first game and new to Xbox controllers too?! The mechanics in Arkham Asylum are definitely new player friendly. If you tried any later game, you'd probably rage quit trying to understand the advanced style 😂

Just curious, if you want to know about the extended Bat-Family, which are the various adopted family members of Batman and all protect Gotham City, let me know if you want me to write you about the rag story since you said don't know much about DC. You've already met Oracle (Barbara Gordon who was once Batgirl) and in the following games you'll also meet the various people who have been Robin (yes there's more than one).
I know that you're new to this mechanics and all that but this is NOT A BACKSEAT or any way of talking shit about your skills. It's very understandable and this is just some fun and friendly tips for your enjoyment. Because we feel the joy when new players are feeling joy too. For a better and more balanced gameplay you need to understand better the style of combat. If you're more controled and less chaotic like panicking, you'll be able to be more efficient and badass in combat. Try to read more of the game's prompts and then you'll see that button mash is not the answer. The combo situation is more like a dance and very much precise. Try to follow Batman's rhythm everytime you press the hit punch and using the counter to not lose your flow. Using the direction stick for wich enemies in your screen. Jumping around only affect negatively your ways and only press each button when is needed and you'll be just fine. The counter only works if you press ONE TIME. If you have any doubt about how to play the combat you can play the challenge modes in the main menu in your own time and when you get used to the flow you'll start to feel like Batman and nothing will stop you for being an expert with your fists. All Arkham games are like that and only gets more complex. If you get comfortable with the fighting style then you'll be able to play the other games in no time. For less trouble in the "predator" modes like stealth, you can upgrade your takedown moves and perform more efficient ways to clear them out. The stealth is still in progress even if they're all alert when losing their tracks. You're cool and it's the first time I see your channel. Hope you're enjoying and maybe we'll get a new DC fan or at least another Batfan in our lives ❤.

And these Arkham games are very unique on how Batman kinda gets even worse about that for a specific reason but I won't spoil you for obvious reasons. The story on all the games are very well written. This game especially was written by a comic book writer and producer called Paul Dini. Arleen Sorkin was Harley in there and in this game too. So you can only imagine the happiness of the fans in hearing their voices in these games. They did countless other DC projects as the same characters in tv shows and other films of Batman and games too. For us, they were the definitive voices of the characters and EVERYTIME we read a Batman and Joker comic their voices were in our heads ❤️. But unfortunately Kevin passed away in 2022 and Mark just felt that without him there was no point in keep voicing the Joker. So he retired the character for good in any piece of media. They were very close. Arleen passed away very close the time when Conroy did and Harley Quinn was a character made just for her originally. Their names are similar: Arleen and Harleen.
You thought Batman was Marvel? Not gonna lie that hurt. The main difference between DC and Marvel is that DC has been around a lot longer. DC pretty much started the superhero genre with Superman.
