      @@tryan7 : I couldn't agree more. Their staff are absolute shit and shouldn't be representing any airline but that's unions for ya. I few from Dublin to Chicago on the worst aircraft I have ever flown on. Nothing worked, not the Wifi, the TV and the seat was broken and didn't recline. Thankfully I was able to move and find a seat that actually reclined. The truth is British Airways would not allow an aircraft in that condition off the ground but that's shitty Aer Lingus for you. Oh and they didn't even serve coffee or tea on the fight, you got water. An awful experience which I hope never to repeat.

    I fly Aer Lingus regularly between London Heathrow and Chicago via Dublin (A321neo and A330-300 for this last trip). The lowest prices and the ease of Dublin’s USA pre-clearance make it worth the added time for transfer. Dublin Terminal 2 can get extremely busy and over-crowded in the middle of the day when all of the North American flights are departing but I’m used to it.

    • @TheVleckChannel
      @TheVleckChannel ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Same here. I now insist on going through Dublin on trips to the USA. It's much better to deal with the TSA after a one hour flight than the full 8 hours. Also, I got pulled into secondary processing on my last trip, and made me think that if I was going to be refused entry for any reason, better in Dublin than to get across the Atlantic only to be turned back.

    I flew Aer Lingus from BOS-DUB-BER, then MUC-DUB-BOS last month and, besides a mishap by the checkin crew at Munich (a contractor, they lost the passenger list and had to check everyone in manually, delaying the flight by almost three hours -I thought I was going to miss my connection to Boston, but the airline staff at Dublin were great and made sure everyone got their connections, and quickly), I thought the service was perfectly fine to very good. The planes were clean, the crews universally friendly, and everyone (even the frontline contract employees whose colleagues screwed up the passenger list and had to get grief form some of the delayed passengers) was very capable. One thing I really liked was the dessert on the BOS-DUB flight was probably the best chocolate mousse I have ever had. I was hoping the same would be served on the DUB-BOS flight, but no dice.

Also, US border preclearance basically makes all flights from Dublin and Shannon to the United States domestic US flights, making it an attractive option for the airline and passengers, as they can use the domestic terminals at the destination airports. Iceland enjoys a similar position, but without the advantage of US preclearance.

    When you think about it's really just an extension of a domestic fight. When you arrive in Newark (Or any other US airport) you simply pick up your bag and leave like you would when flying within US borders. All the customs and passport checks are done by the US Customs and border control agents in Ireland so you don't have to go through all that process again when you arrive stateside. It makes life very easy when flying to very busy airports like Chicago or New York. As a US citizen I love it when the passport control officer says "Welcome Home" after he/she checks my passport even though I'm still in an Irish airport (Once you go through passport control you're, for the purposes of the flight, unofficially on US soil) Oh and In Dublin there's a separate lane at passport control for US citizens so you can get through the process a little quicker.. Enjoy your flight..

It may not seem that big of a deal but as a tall person (i think Alex is the only youtube flight reviewer taller than i am) that is really all i care about. How much legroom do euro carriers have. This helps me narrow my airlines to search. I am simple basic minded (although i never buy basic economy. Usually delta main cabin or every airlines equivalent). I do not care if they serve food, drink or if the have IFE, nothing like that. Only 2 things i care about when i fly. The legroom and is the crew professional, nice and poliet.

    Just booked the Cleveland-Dublin nonstop for end of August. Flying narrowbody on a 7+ hour flight is certainly not my first choice, however, it being a 15 min drive to the airport from where I live is a serious bonus…and no layover. Less we forget, 50 years ago, fly a narrowbody 707 or DC-8 was the norm…with no IFE or Wi-Fi. I think as a people, we have become spoiled. Looking so forward to this.

    We flew on an Aer Lingus A321LR from Toronto to Dublin in May. It was a very comfortable flight. We enjoyed everything about the flight, We were supposed to catch a connector to Dusseldorf but we were delayed departing from Toronto for over two hours. We missed the flight and had to wait 11 hours for the next flight to Dusseldorf However, we really like Aer Lingus and plan to book with them again for next spring

    You should see CLE airport. Dark, crowded, no moving sidewalk. etc. They talk of redoing the whole thing for about 3+B $. An entire concourse is totally empty as United pulled its hub a few yrs. ago. The airport here mostly caters to the crowd going to FL & Vegas on Spirit, Allegiant or Frontier.

    I flew Aer Lingus the first time a little over a year ago from SFO. The flight was approximately 10-11 hrs. Dinner was served shortly after takeoff. 30 mins before landing, we got our breakfast (which I thought we wouldn’t be getting as we were about to land). It was very light, it was some sort of a “hot pocket”, kinda disappointing. Also, on my way back to SFO, they somehow lost my luggage, got it back after a week, another disappointment.

    I always thought coathooks on a plane are pointless, especially in economy seat as it would just take up room and cover the seat back screens? And probably annoy the passengers sitting around you.
    I took the Aer Lingus flight between Dublin and Hartford CT around 7 years ago. They were using 757s, and they were OLD, and too long, especially when you needed the toilet during the flight. Seats were pretty tired if I recall aswell. The TSA pre-clearance was very good though.
    On the way back, I experienced the worst, excruciating, scariest turbulence of my life. We must have hit a pocket of abnormal, or no air pressure, the plane jerked to the side, all the food and drinks flipped into the aisle and for about an hour the plane just shook like hell and you could tell we were losing altitude rapidly. I can't help but think this effect would have been offset a bit had the plane been a wide-body. However the staff were INCREDIBLE, didn't panic and kept asking if we were ok. I vowed though, never to take a narrow body over the atlantic again, even if it isn't that long a flight, to me anyway.
    These new planes look comfy though, so....maybe. They're resuming the Dublin - Hartford route this month, which works for me, and I know they'll never operate a wide body on that route, and that also this is the way flying is going now. I guess we can't change....er....physics.
