I was at the performance. a bit jetlagged having got off a plane from the USA that morning, but had a flat in the Barbican so was easy to make it across to the Barbican Hall. Was prepared to write her off as only being in the finals because she was 12 but was totally blown away by the performance. A very worthy winner indeed.
Yes, I will never forget this either. I think we all realised that even at the age of twelve Jennifer was that very rare type of person, a true master of her art.
She came into our orchestra rehearsal last weekend because she was on the way to performing in a concert and came to inspire the young musicians in the area. It was amazing
Watching after hearing her last night in Brahm's violin concerto in Ripon Cathedral and also two years ago with the Bruch violin concerto, she is utterly amazing. Her playing is quite sublime. SHe makes her violin literally sing.
She plays so beautifully, then and now. Despite the fact that she has played with many orchestras and has won this competition, she has not had as successful career as say, Nicola Benedetti. It’s a shame, but it’s such a tough life for these acceptional musicians, because at the end of the day, it doesn’t come down to talent, it comes down to sheer luck
