  • One of the top questions I get asked is, "who has the best slice in NYC?" Well, I'm here to answer that question once and for all. My two top contenders are within minutes of each other in the West Village: Joe's Pizza and Bleecker Street Pizza. Joe's Pizza opened in the 1970's and has built a solid reputation. It was featured in Spider-Man 2, which further catapulted its popularity with New Yorkers and tourists alike. Bleecker Street Pizza opened in the 2000's and has quickly become a crowd favorite for its unique crispy & crunchy crust and numerous topping options. The Food Network even hailed it the "best slice in NYC" for 3 years in a row. Which slice shop reigns supreme? The old school slice shop or the new-ish kid on the block? Come along for this food adventure!

I just took my first ever trip to NYC over Christmas break and Bleecker Street Pizza ended up being the favorite of me and my gf. I loved the flavor, especially after I sprinkled on a little crushed red pepper. For my gf, she loved their veggie slice. Being a vegetarian, it blew her away.

Joe's is a classic slice but to all the visitors - you can definitely get much more flavorful NY and Italian style pizzas. Lucali, L'industrie, Di Fara, Rubirosa, Best Pizza (in BK), Una Pizza Napoletana, Scarr's, etc are all incredible. The most notable differences come down to the cook - wood and coal-fired ovens are just simply better, the flavor and acidity of the sauce (not too sweet, not too bitter, well-seasoned and not bland), the quality of the cheese (real fresh mozz and parmigiano as opposed to processed cheeses), the flour used for the dough and the proofing techniques to get just the right amount of crisp, airiness, and chew. There's so much to appreciate in a good pizza but you have to know where to go.

      Couldn’t agree more.
Comparing Apples to Apples, Scarr’s, Best Pizza, and L’industrie are slice shops.
I loved Scarr’s and Best when I went.
We actually filmed EARLY episodes there.
Another great slice shop is Mama’s II in the Upper Westside. If you haven’t been, I recommend.
Whole pies, Jualianna’s and Grimaldi’s are personal favs. Also Song E Napule and Sottocasa have top notch pies (those are Neapolitan).
Thanks for watching! If you have any recommendations you’d like us to showcase let us know!

@@APieceofNewYork The only spot I can think of off the top of my head that a lot of people I know haven't tried already is Luzzo's. The one in East Village

@@jasono312 I have not been, but I do know that Luzzo’s is part of a food group that split up.
The fraction that left started Levante (Long Island City), Luzzo BK, and LBK. Those a GREAT Neapolitan pizza spots. Highly recommend.
      Thanks for the recommendation!

Those are places have bomb ass pizza and objectively “better”, but Joe’s is exactly what I’m looking for in terms of NY Pizza. Nothing more, nothing less.

I love Bleecker Street Pizza. Their Nonna Maria slice is the best. The people who work there are nice and their prices are reasonable compared to other places. They also have a variety of pizza slices and other things. Its easy for me. Bleecker Street Pizza over Joes.

      Both were great
I gave the edge for Bleecker as well for the reasons you mentioned also
More variety, better flavor, service was phenomenal as well.
Glad you enjoyed and thanks for watching!
