    Hi! Don't worry about new consistency on QoR watercolours, they just changed it some time ago. They explain it in their channel: th-cam.com/video/GLS8oxMmPns/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=GoldenPaints I wanted to talk you about the new Schmincke Akademie Xmas edition for this year 2022. The 24 set is gourgeous! I just got mine from a German online store, check it out!

      Omg, thank you so much, DJ!!! I thought I was going crazy or something, lol... Yeah, I'm not a fan of the change, all. I will watch the video and cross my fingers they left their tube formula the same! I have no time to fight with paints. Lol I'm going to pin your comment so others can get the info! Thanks so much for the information. Sorry for the late reply, TH-cam puts comments with links in timeout. Lol
      Ooooh!!! Thank you so much, I can't wait to see it! I hope I can find it. Can you tell me the name of the shop, without a link please? I saw St. Louis Art Supply an Akademie set for $120, I wonder if it's the same? Thanks a million for thinking of me, and knowing I would love the Christmas set!!!

      I agree! Inks and fountain pens are AMAZING art supplies for inking and lining. I love using ink and pens with watercolor, and I like to use Inks like watercolor to paint with. I especially love Dr. Ph Martin’s India Ink for the painting techniques. I also dabble in Calligraphy (which is also a type of art itself!) and I love painting small watercolor compositions of flowers, birds, animals, insects, and beautiful backgrounds and inking calligraphy of motivational quotes or Bible verses on the painting.

    Great haul!! You always make it so fun to watch and you give excellent honest information also!!
    Wow! The owl is so good!! Funny…I was just as I was admiring the eyes as you said that you messed them up…lol?? They were really good, Stephanie just not exactly same but eyes never are exact. Seriously, you have made tremendous progress and very talented….just remember the eye you covered/cut out on one of the first paintings you shared…made me chuckle because we all do it! I’m not sure everyone understands how much courage it takes to put your art on display for everyone no matter what your level of ability…. One of my favorites (she has won the highest award for AWS one year) and she said something similar…
    My belief because it’s truly a part of us….I’ve always admired this about you!!!
    Congrats on the Mission Gold set!! Wow! You definitely got unbelievable price!! They are pretty expensive when purchased single tubes. The letters tell the price categories….A is least expensive so D and E would be lot more expensive tube. I love the red orange color. Most of my Cobalt Teals are pg50 so I was happy about that! The phthalo blue 15:6 is the red shade I believe and it’s not commonly included. I think you will like the red brown too! They have some different mixes so it’s why you will see a ultramarine #2; along with several basic colors that everyone else uses the one normal pigment. Hope I am making sense!! I hope you enjoy!! I love their magenta too.
    I love the marker tray!! I’ve been trying to find something for my Copics sets. I’m not a fan of the plastic containers my 72 sets came in…Wonder if they would work for zigs?? Not sure how many slots….
    Inks and artex are now on my list and QoR palettes are off…unless I find super cheap price…lol) I agree they were strange but what gorgeous colors!!
    Now I know the colors you have I’ll see what colors I can fill in for you from the 24 set. I’ll just put in half pans.
    Can’t wait to see what you think about the student gouache.
    The Isaro look pretty! Oh! I can understand how you plan on buying 2 and end up with 12 more….lol. I do same every time…😂
    Love the Schminke too! I’m so grateful you are honest. Helps me and I am sure many others. It is a shame that they are such a quality paint but don’t have rolled edges?!? Even cheap ones on Amazon can do that…
    I’m definitely buying this set!!!
    Agree about Lemon yellow! Can mix some but definitely an happy when it’s not in set…
    Love the transparent orange! Potters pink! Magenta was very pretty….can’t wait to try mixing these…
    I was just heading to bed but grabbed my phone to take out my “baby boys”..Winston and Alfie are 7 now and our dogs…lol. Since we couldn’t have children they really are my babies! My Winston still wants me to rock him to sleep before he goes down in his bed…lol. I love every minute!! I know you have your special “fur baby” also who wants to be with you…I remember you saying something about it..
    I’ve written a dadgum letter again!!
    Thank you again for ending my day with very uplifting video. Your sweet spirit and humor always comes through and that’s such a great gift to have this as it’s truly been a blessing in my life and spreads so much joy and kindness

      Thank you so much, Nancy!!! Yes, I usually try to share some of my art. It is hard though, and most of the time no one comments on my art, sadly. But, I keep sharing anyway to keep the haters from thinking I just buy all things and don't use them. I do use them all, and love them all!! ;D
      Yes, I've been wanting to try the pure pigment line but not for the price of the single tubes...same with Qor. I generally like sets though, because you get more bang for your buck. PG50 is usually my favorite Cobalt Teal/Turquoise as well.
      Thank you! I like the Tombow Marker organizer for the Tombow brush pens and the Arrtx acrylic markers fit too. The Zigs are too short so they would push back where you can't get them back out. I store my Copics in wooden silverware caddies that I take to my desk. Some I keep with my Zigs and other coloring items in cubbies of shelf I found at hobby lobby. I'm not sure if you saw my studio tours, but I shared it there. I hope that helps you!!
      Oh, thank you!! I will look forward to that!

      @nancyrolfe3033 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheGypsyChic1 oh, sweet Stephanie! I truly believe it is fine for you to buy art supplies even if you never used them just because they bring you happiness…
      I’ve heard you say that you don’t buy lots of jewelry, etc. I just do NOT understand why people take the time to leave hateful comments?!? Especially when someone is so kind as you!
      I remember now, it’s Bella!! Love the name…I understand about cooking for her…my husband insisted on this since we took them but quickly relegated this job to me….lol
      I didn’t realize your youngest child was that old!! I can’t imagine how hard it is for them to grow and independent…the time passes so quickly…
      I’m sure you are very proud of him and his ability to do everything without needing you but you just always see that little boy inside…
      There’s a unique bond between some mothers and their sons….I’m not sure what it is but certain God designed it..
      I can remember seeing it in my husband and his mother loved me because she was always aware of his tenderness…he is what I refer to as “a man’s man “ he has tremendous strength and can be tough when needed but yet he’d get on the floor when we’d walk into his mothers house and gently rub her legs when she was taking chemotherapy…they hurt her so badly. It’s one of my favorite pics.
      He does everything without any attention and accolades….you really wouldn’t notice because it’s done so casually and he just kept talking as that big man sat down….
      She’d never complained but he remembered his sister saying something about it. He’d have her laughing so hard!!!
      Your description of your son just reminded me of that when you said you got your hugs from him daily…
      Oh! I bet he’s a very special young man. I can tell that you are an excellent mother!! You have often mentioned sharing items, especially with your daughter. I figured she inherited your talent!!
      Seriously, Stephanie, try not to be bothered by the negative comments. (easier said than done). I had a bad experience with some parents for a few years due to lies and slander during the end of my teaching. I get it!! I’d always had a good reputation so it was rough. God placed the most wonderful man as principal during those 3 years and he taught me it’s not worth the energy and only takes from joy in my life and those around…
      I’d always laughed easily and found humor in so many things and I had started to lose it….
      God used that experience and another more difficult situation to help me learn that I am only accountable to Him…others didn’t define me…
      Oh! It’s not easy! Definitely brings a deeper and lasting serenity.
      I’m quite a bit older than you so it’s gets easier as life happens…
      I’d learned in my twenties to pray for people like that. I thought it was crazy but I did it and it was so amazing that my feelings changed from being hurt and dislike for those “unkind “ people to having compassion…I could just see them as “a wounded animal striking at the one trying to help “….In this I learned that only kindness and love changes hearts!! I definitely don’t seek out people who aren’t kind but if I am forced to be around them I continually pray that God remove the anger and give me his grace to respond….
      I do stay away from anyone mean!!! My husband and I don’t like any negativity in our home.
      He’s much better than I tho!! He reminds me if I start to say anything bad about someone…even if it’s true!!
      I hate when I do it….lol
      My grandmother (who was really like a mother) and great grandmother were 2 people who I never heard say anything bad about someone except for one person….
      After I graduated university I moved to the town my grandmother lived in as her husband had died a few years earlier and she was so lonely.
      I was so blessed to have found a house on the same block and lived there for many years. I moved in with her when she developed cancer. She just didn’t want to go to stay in a home or rehab hospital and never had to!!
      My friends and students loved her too!! She was very quiet and shy and I the complete opposite!! I took her everywhere. She did so much for me!
      I remember her bringing over a plate of big breakfast when I first moved in…I wasn’t able to eat a lot that early…it took awhile before she understood and I just ate lunch with her instead…
      Wasn’t I lucky one!!
      I’d better go and try to get something done today!
      You just keep on being the beautiful, sweet spirit you are, Stephanie!! It’s that along with your excitement over beautiful products that got me looking forward to your videos.
      I always feel happy inside after watching. In fact, you and Anna seem to always lift my spirits so I will watch older videos if I’m having a rough day.
      Anna has a different personality but her genuine kindness comes through and just makes me feel good too.
      She has made me laugh so hard at times! She had just gotten a Golden Retriever puppy when I found her. He was reason for most it. He put his nose in the middle of her items when she was holding him. Oh! She wasn’t expecting that! Sometimes it’s those things that I find so great!!! She also was apologetic during another one when he started growling, etc. she stated he’d just found himself in a mirror.
      It may bother others (I don’t know why??) but are some of my favorites!! I remember you telling that Bella was always right beside you!!
      Last night my husband and dogs were already in bed and I went to get in my pjs. I’d just been sitting in recliner in the room…Our closets are in the bathroom. I didn’t shut the door and before I could change I saw Winston’s nose peeking inside….lol. Alfie just pushed open the door! I didn’t wake up Jeff thank goodness!!!
      They are such sweeties but I understood about always being by your side.
      I just love that name, Bella!
      Thank you for the beautiful letter and response. I always enjoy!!
      Again, I’ve just rambled on about everything and nothing…
      Please give me some mercy. Writing is my nightmare and weakness…as I was math teacher.
      Sending blessings to you and your family,
      Nancy Rolfe

      I just ordered a pen I saw on Sandy Allnocks channel. She was impressed with it so when I saw they were free shipping and only $40 I had to buy one.
      You might check it out! I’m just not into writing like so many so I won’t spend over $50 and I have to really like them!!
      Anna sent me a link to some she found that were so nice and only $10 on Amazon. In fact my husband kept the brass one…lol
      Metal and good weight! I’ll send if you are interested.

    I love the pure pigment set of Mission Gold. I have the bigger set and made a little mixing palette with them that I bring around with me everywhere. Thank you for sharing! Lovely haul. Not sure if someone else has pointed it out, but Cobalt Turquoise is one that often gets named differently between brands. PB28 and PG50 are usually referred to as Cobalt Teal from what I've seen (with greener or bluer variations), but Cobalt Turquoise is generally PB36, and I don't think as many brands carry it. It's a gorgeous color, so I highly recommend giving the PB36 version a try.

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Shelly, welcome! These particular Qor watercolors were hard to rewet, meaning they did not reactivate well. The company changed the formula, that previously would reactivate beautifully, as most good quality watercolors do. The company changed the formula, so if you like the colors...I would just recommend you purchase the tube version instead of the half-pan. The tubes are more cost efficient, as well. I hope that helps! Also, since you are new to watercolors....buying and trying all the brands is completely not necessary. I just find it incredibly fun!! ;D

    Just waiting for that Schmincke palette to arrive, I was fascinated by the colour selection and really it costs so much more to buy the pans separately. I don’t find their tins a problem to use at all, have never cut myself on them, I think of them as a bonus. My big problem now with this particular set is what colours to add to is so it keeps a sort of colour integrity as a mixing set. I was glad of your idea of cobalt teal as I think it will be perfect, I have already ordered green earth as I think that will fit well too. It is going to be really difficult to narrow these down as I already have 27 of their colours already, and have doubles of their olive green and lemon yellow to switch out as it is!
    I had a kind of thought that I might try to create a set of earth mixing colours in the empty spaces, because that would give a unique mixing set for botanical/landscape and portrait all in one small box of 21 colours (I think probably it is possible to add a half pan to each row…..) and try to keep its characteristic of having opaque/transparent/granulating choices in those pigments too, to keep things nice and interesting……It was a challenge to add to their bijoux set, which was very ordinary (boring, but I wanted the box badly!), and make it something special too. That’s the fun in creating a personalised palette. I would love to know what you plan for this one….. I did something similar with last years box of nine full pans, so I am not ruling out full pans for this set either! Maybe a unique triad of full pan granulating colours would be a fun addition!

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How fun, I'm so excited for you Lindy!! I know you are much more judicious with your purchases than me! Yes, that is why I tend to buy the sets, but I'm trying to only purchase the truly unique palettes from now on. I gifted my doubles to my three children and friends. Haha, even they have enough Lemon Yellow, Perm Olive Green and Ultra Finest to last a lifetime. I have never cut myself on any of the Schmincke palettes. The edges seem sharp to me, so I wanted to warn others that may be disappointed.
      Yes, I'm trying to do the same! I really want to use this palette and keep it mostly as designed...yet all that space is begging to be filled up. Lol So far, I've added Cobalt Turquoise and Lemon Yellow. I'm trying to use it as is...as much as possible, to try new mixes and think outside the box. I don't often give opaque watercolors much of a chance in my studio. I will definitely try your idea of adding Green Earth! Thank you for sharing!!
      That is a fabulous idea of making it a earth mixing colors palette!! Madder Brown or Caput Mortuum might be nice in there. You can definitely fit 21 half pans, and you can also squeeze half pans in on the very bottom if you want to. But, personally 21 would be plenty for me. I like trying all of the colors, then making limited palettes for different subjects.
      You are so right!! For the bijoux set, I added Quin Magenta, Quin Gold, Cobalt Turquoise and Viridian. I've taken my Schmincke palettes and made a landscape, floral, granulating, everyday palette. etc. I'm working on one with my favorite pretty, yet not lightfast colors to use in a sketchbook. It's so fun, so I hope you enjoy building yours!! I will share this palette again in a future video with the colors I've added, after I have played with it much more and done more paintings! Thanks so much for sharing all of your thoughts! I always appreciate your opinions!

    What a bummer that the new QoR pan formula didn't work out... I wonder why they don't just pour them like all the other high end brands - their tube formula generally rewets really well, I don't understand the need for this pressed powder type solution.
    I wonder if the pans would improve if you, like, dissolve them and let them dry again? Like, just add as much water as the pan will take and let it sit, dissolve, and dry. But yeah, this pressed powder situation doesn't seem to be all that great, definitely not up to the normal QoR standard. Bummer.

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you, FaerieDust! Yes, it was a bummer! I agree and I wish they would have kept using the old formula. I can still use these sets. They work better if I spray them and let them sit. But, since I had the previous half pan set that didn't need to soak first...I was disappointed. Lol They did rewet a tiny bit better the next time I used them, so perhaps they have a coating?
      Thanks for the helpful suggestions! Did you see the pinned comment of this video? DJ was kind enough to leave a link to a video from Qor, discussing the new formulation.

    Color names are not controlled, whereas pigment numbers are standardized internationally. Therefore, you should always go by the pigment numbers. Yes, people tend to associate certain names with certain pigments, but manufacturers don't have to stick with those names. Translation may also be a factor in them naming PG7 as Viridian instead of Phthalo Green -- maybe Phthalo is hard to say in Korean? They wouldn't discount a set due to labelling, they'd just slap on another label.

    Don't apologize for ranting. If you didn't then manufactures and distributors wouldn't know there is an issue. It's possible this batch was shipped before completely cured. If shipped while tells were cold enough to freeze that could cause the same issue you are having. Freeze thaw can cause the same problems but it doesn't hurt the paint. Just how it looks. You can eliminate that texture by putting water in the pans then allowing it to sit and resettle over night.

    • @TheGypsyChic1
      @TheGypsyChic1  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Helen! Not that I'm aware of. I've always thought is was colors which use a different that normal pigment to make a paint color. Companies use "hue" to let you know they have not used the pigment usually used to make a color. For example if they use PG7 in place of PG18, they will label the tube Viridian Hue. I guess it is a language translation issue that I don't need to fuss about so much. Lol Just make sure if purchasing paint to choose by the pigment information, not the name. Hopefully the pigment info is correct, as well. My tubes of Rose Dore from Winsor and Newton have the wrong pigment info on both of my tubes. Lol
