This...has been SO clear, thank you. I've been "normal" and fishtail braiding since I was a kid, but never on my own hair and I've never done French/Dutch braids. I really want to though, and using your method I've managed a somewhat decent version in my own hair for the first time ever! I always felt like I was one hand short for these kind of things...

After months of trying to braid my own hair like this, I found your video and learned how to dutch braid in a week! (First 3 braids were very messy but then it just clicked!) The way you explain it, what fingers to use and how to grab new strands of hair makes it so easy! This is the best Dutch braid tutorial ever. Omg, I have legit been trying to do these braids for about 5 years using various techniques but found my arms either got tired, up was not close enough to my head or I got in a tangled mess.
I slowed the video right down and did it in time with you. The technique of using the index and thumb as like a set of pincers to grab the strand from the other side is genius. It keeps the braid real tight and means no getting tangled. I have just done MY FIRST ever Dutch braid. Will you marry me? Thank you so much. ❤❤❤

Great video! If you’re already familiar with French braids all you need to know is ‘under and into the middle’ instead of over and into the middle. I’ll hear your voice repeating that in my head every time I do a Dutch braid ☺️

I'll try to clarify it in this comment, for those who still don't get it. Basically, you divide the hair in three parts, now take the right strand under the middle strand, and then under the right strand which is now in the middle, you bring the left strand, now you bring the right strand under the middle, left strand under the middle, and repeat.

Which one is easiest to learn? French or Dutch braid? I've been three strand braiding since I was like 6, but for the life of me, I cannot get my hands to do what they need to fir Dutch or french braiding!!
Depends on the person, but personally I would start out with a French braid :D x
I think dutch braiding is easier on yourself. It's what i've been doing forever i think your hands move better when going under rather then over. hope this helps

What keeps it tight when you have the strand just sitting on top? I cannot make this look good and ive tried about 1000 times in 30 years. I've watched way more videos than that. I dont understand why mine falls apart or looks like I just tied knots... because thats all I can really do is make knots or watch it fall apart
