    And again I say smelling diesel is way better than trusting my 85 year old dad welding on a propane tank telling me he knows what he's doing which is fine as long as he's in his shop instead of mine..........oh yeah just a heads up I told him where yer shops at !

    If they have dry ice at your grocery store throw some in to get rid of the oxygen

    There's nothing wrong with them old tombstone welders, I would burn DC rods when I had one years ago. On small fuel tanks like that I used my 4 wheeler and a hose run inside the tank. Get you side by side warmed up and put a hose from the muffler into the tank, let it run long enough to warm the tank then start welding. Leave the side by side run until the welds cool off. On bigger tanks I used my truck.
    We would use longer bolts and valve springs to mount a tank that size, worked good. At 9psi a square (aluminum) tank will blow the side out. Don't ask how I know that. Keep Smilin Frank

      Yeah I have talked to some others that do it with exhaust, tank had some rust so it needed washed out anyway. Thanks for the info, it doesn’t take much to blow the sides out.

    I have the same leaking problem on my 90 gallon diesel tank! It takes 170 gallon to fill my D8K dozer. Have to visit my 500 gallon overhead twice... I still try to fix my own stuff. But at 81 year old I don't move to quickly anymore. Good video I'm happy I came across it👍🤠

      Well I’m sure you can make it work, but be careful. A new fuel tank is way cheaper than your life my friend.

      Get the spot you have to weld positioned as high up as possible. Fill the tank with water to reduce the volume of atmosphere there is to combust. Yes you have to get the tank at an odd angle.

    You're right Mr. Frank, there's not enough people who fix stuff, we live in a disposable world.

    Great repair Frank. E6010 is a DC only rod, but will work [ long arc-higher than normal amps] on AC. E6011 is the AC counterpart to E6010. There are salts in the coating to strike and keep the arc going on AC.

    • @Digginok
      @Digginok  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Good to know! I usually have some 6011 on hand. It is harder to run ac for sure.

    I saw one of your videos on the TD8E. I have the same dozer, it started and immediately shut off then i had zero fuel pressure after that. I had a guy tell me it was probably the lift pump. Do you know where the lift pump is located?

    • @Digginok
      @Digginok  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It doesn’t have a lift pump, unless someone has added one. If it has a Cummins engine it would have one on the side of the engine block on the left side.
      Check for fuel flow from tank, could have something blocking flow.

    Yup Frank I still fix stuff, every day. Almost everything I own is got some age and my tools fit it somehow. I worked on natural gas, propane and fuel oil for thirty years with welders after we repaired and fit pipe, tanks, boilers, regulator stations, pumps and all between. At first I was a little nervous but understanding how, temps, combustible mixtures and knowing what you can do it’s as safe as anything else. Never dealt with gasoline though. Just in lawnmowers and cars. I would be nervous welding around it.

      I have grown up hearing horror stories, a bit of experience is always worth its weight in gold. We always figured if it was on fire we could safely weld it, so that’s a starting point. If it won’t start on fire it’s usually safe. Thanks for watching!

    Nice moving picture show.
    Are you not a fan of 6011? 6011 was designed to weld on AC machines.

    I've repaireddiesel tanks also. The root pas is good for burning out any residual fuel and the second pass ensures no more leaks. Good job.

      I know a lot that do the same, but it’s kinda hard to weld the bottom, and it needed a good cleaning anyway so… thanks for watching and commenting!
