2021 Canadian LMC Lightweight Meal Ready to Eat Review MRE New & Improved Light Ration Taste Testing
ฝัง
- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 17 ส.ค. 2024
- Check out this new & improved Canadian Light Meal Combat, featuring high tech state of the art shelf stable snacks of utmost quality. Creamy crunchy chocolate Xact protein bar, delectable grape drink, and a hot cup of latte coffee that would make you question your need to ever buy normal coffee ever again. Behold, the equivalence to the US FSR, but it's Canadian. And that alone makes it worth checking out.
Also, give MRE Empire a look. He's a ration shop that has been in business for a few years now and I've done about a dozen successful deals with Bart, the owner. He's cool. Give him a look.
I'd like to give a mention to two MRE Reviewers as well.
Canadian Trucker MRE Reviews
: Laid back style, reviewing one component at a time, quality dry humor, dude is super cool and helps out a bunch of new MRE Hobbyists.
Smitty's MRE Reviews
: Varied and fresh ration review styles. Extremely knowledgeable to all rations, especially Canadian. Witty humor and great camera work. Very helpful and supportive to various ration reviewers.

Nothing like ending the night off with a new Steve video
Right? I totally agree
Nice.
2 new videos
Can't go wrong

Agreed
I wish to be as happy as Steve getting two beverage bags

Looking at eBay ads for these, this should be considered to be a small example of aid to Ukraine not going where it was intended.
@@winstonsmith478 Bro, there were MRE's on ebay long before Ukraine. It should be considered an example of you not knowing what you're talking about.
Steve is one of the only TH-camrs who you genuinely smile whenever you see a new upload. All the views and he hasn't changed a bit that is so very rare.
I still remember when most channels were charmingly unpolished. Steve is keeping it real
It's like stumbling upon an old website that's still just a .html. Just some text that's barely formatted and no images
its nice that at least a few youtubers are still actually passionate abt what they post and arent just spewing out sloppy souless content for easy money
I do like that he hasn't changed the way he does his videos. Much Respect to Steve.
This is what I consider an "influencer," or what *_should_* be considered one. He offers something of actual value and utility with honesty and enthusiasm. The only thing manufactured about his videos are the MREs.
He has most definitely influenced a ton of smiles and MRE sales. A true genuine guy
I’m a nurse sitting down after 13 hours to an MRE, US, beef stew. And this popped on my phone. I keep telling my coworkers to get this out on a tray. Nice.
Nice hiss!

What, there is no pain hamburger??!! 😂😂
I cannot explain, nor understand, why I feel such delight hearing Steve talk about low density poly-ethylene packaging. But I do, almost as much as when he talks about thermo-stabilised retort pouches.
When he breaks down the nutrients...😊. This one has a new one on me, tactical napkin😅
It's passion. Passionate people can make anything sound interesting.
I won't lie, I was at Disney land last night and stopped ans sat down to watch this video when I got a notification for it. Totally worth it
its late in the evening, i’m hungry, and morale is low. suddenly Steve comes out of the bush, into the light of the fire, with a video of Canadian light rations.
Always turns up when most needed, least expected.
Nice!
Sounds like something from the J Peterman catalog.
Can't watch these hungry. Something about these MREs just gets my appetite going haha. I remember getting the french MRE with the duck confit and oh my... I liked that more than most restaurant meals!
Late night MRE snack? Absolutely! Always puts a smile on my face seeing a notification from Steve. Even if it is 9:00pm
nice!
Sorry hijacking this comment.
The chocolate bar thing you liked is a Tim-Tam.
An Australian product (that the Brits and Canadians stole from us)
You can buy em
If you consider 1,500 calories a snack, what do you consider a full-course meal?
@@gingermcgingin4106 most of the calories are in the drinks. gas station mre's like this definitely feel like a ton of snacks put in a bag, which would make for terrible eating if you didn't have a strenuous job.
@@chugs1984Last i checked TimTams dont have 15g of protein in them. And did TimTams invent chocolate covered wafers? Im pretty sure KitKat at the very least came first.
Don't get me wrong, TimTams are awesome (i like the caramel filled), but it's not like anything that includes chocolate covered wafers is a rip off of TimTams.
The Jerky is super easy to open, you grab it at the corner (the one that appears rounded inwardly), by each layer front and back, and pull it apart. They're sealed specifically to be able to open that way without tearing or cutting Steve.
Top tip!
@@jjryan1352 Yeah, but some them just don't open nicely (hard to get the corner apart to start it because the edge is melted together during manufacture) so out comes the knife anyway lol.
Tearing along the serrated edge works for me 😂
@@Jagabot_Esq. Imagine the guy that has nothing to open.
Lol we just used our multi-tools to cut the entire brick of meat out and eat it in a few bites, it was so good and one of my favorite things to see in an imp
Not once in 4 years have I seen ANYONE open it properly
I'm an indonesian. I've got my hand on one single pack of US MRE back then, and it was a treat. I had a dream of owning packs of these lying around for everyday meal, but with Indonesian salary it ended up impossible.
Your video help me live that dream and I'm grateful of it.
He reviews Indonesian military rations as well.
Something about these videos makes me feel so warm inside, like coming inside and sitting by the fire after being out in the snow
nice!
These never get old, it's truly amazing how well you represent the MRE experience! 👌
Right on thanks so much! nice
In bed ill with a cold, but two new uploads and hearing "Let's get this out onto a tray" has got me feeling NICE.
I started following Steve about 3 months ago. A friend of mine at work mentioned a guy who ate and reviewed an 1899 emergency ration. I was intrigued so I checked it out. I was amazed by the passionate and excited way he presented the history and the ration itself. Since then, I have made the history of military rations and other aspects of militaria a hobby of mine. I have acquired a bunch of Korea and Vietnam era rations with the intention of researching, opening, and documenting them. I enjoy the newer stuff like this review, but the main draw for me is the time-capsule, scientific, and historical aspects of Steve’s review and of course, the way he describes and documents everything in such amazing detail. Thanks Steve!
Of course the evolution of the MRE is endlessly fascinating. Someone famous once said..the military travels on its stomach ... This MRE here seems to encapsulate a lot of that technology and knowledge. Nutrition portability, taste.
Man I gotta get into trying these myself, it seems so interesting to see the different eras in history represented through rations
There's nothing else like it ! nice
Glad you're still around and making content! I had to live off MRE for a few months Love watching these
Nice!
Being Canadian I might be a little bias, but I really like this ration. It's almost identical to what I would bring to work to get me through 11 hour days. The protein drink seems like an amazing addition, no doubt many more MRE's will adopt it as well. Sweet stach by the way Steve!
I'd add a packet of maple syrup for the cornbread,😊🇨🇦🍁. I really like this review. It is so Steve. 😊😅This is awesome and it is a great meal.
These are pretty popular. The corn bread is really nice. Glad they brought it back into the rations
As someone who ate these in the field, it does get old. We started to trade the drink powders. Chocolate bars sometimes would come completely white. I personally enjoyed the fruit pouches. Also I liked the salmon. You can get poutine, pulled pork, chicken jumbalia, can't remember the rest. Random hamburger bun. Some came with peanut butter and people would spread that on it. At basic we would keep a box of all the stuff we didn't want to eat and would pick stuff out if we liked it.
Jerky, I learned from my Grandfather an old Infantry Cook (WWI, he went Navy after that) that you can take any jerky and steep it in hot water and add it to things like a can of beans, or scrambled eggs and its pretty awesome.
I think wine is another early shelf stable food.
Jerky in those times wasn't really edible otherwise. This was way before all those fancy additives, so it had to be really dry to be shelf-stable.
This. I thought that's what it was originally made for. we've used it when camping...on the last day. my brothers snack on jerky but that still feels odd to me
Lost my job on Thursday. This is just what I needed. Steve always lifts my spirit
Hope you find a new job soon!
Keep up the grind, hopefully u get back out there soon :)
Love & Strength to you friend ~~~~
How are things lately? Have you found a new job?
I can’t tell you how much joy it brings me to pick up my phone and see a couple of alerts for new Steve videos!! My life is full to lol. That’s how great you are brother.
Right on man thanks so much. Hope you have an awesome night and weekend. Take care & see ya around! nice
alright cool, see ya
So excited to wake up this morning and see two new Steve videos, I first found Steve when my daughter was a newborn, I’d watch him doing the night feeds as his gentle pace wasn’t too manic but the way he delivered the subject was captivating, my daughter is now five and whenever I hear his voice it takes me back to the early hours night feeds, good to see you still slap those coffee sachets like you’re Hugh Hefner slapping the derrière of a playboy bunny, never stop making content Steve, you’re a TH-cam legend.
Totally nice!
Heck yeah, my friend, thank you so much for the upload and for the mention. Really appreciate both, but most excited to see you check out some rations haha.
"Mom, wake up! The MRE guy uploaded new videos." Always nice to see these pop up in the Feed/Notifications. The videos are just so chill and informative. Plus I love military stuff, so may as well include the MREs on that list.
Nice!
Steve, you’re like an old friend who drops by every once in a while who I’m always happy to see.
Or that one off center neighbour who has his roof covered by garden gnomes
Gotta love how Steve calls mixing components "fancy"
Yeah we need a side channel on Steve's MRE menu recipes. 🤤😋
As a Canadian who left the country for the US almost exactly a year ago, I REALLY appreciate videos like this. Thanks Steve!

Love the variety of the postings, ancient military mres, modern military rations and some civilian stuff too. On the topic of Canadian MREs would be interested to see a video on the Total Prepare Canadian civilian MREs. Or even get your honest thoughts on XMRE and some less popular brands.
Steve, I've been watching your stuff for years now and having new videos to finish off my shift at work is a great way to end the night
Right on man that's awesome. Hope you have a great night and take care. nice

When you said that it was smelling very purple. I completely understood and could smell it through my memory.
Man, your videos are straight up therapeutic for me. Thanks for the relaxation and stress relief, there’s nothing else quite like this on YT.
I found a bunch of those compressed towels at a local science and surplus store a few years ago, super cheap. I bought one just to check it out. I went back the next week and bought a dozen in every size they had. There are some fairly large ones. My wife and I take them on our hikes and use them to clean up after a picnic lunch. Brilliant idea putting those in an MRE.
I have a little compressed napkin in my tire change kit on my bicycle handy even for not just changing a tire. You got me thinking they're good everywhere car, travel, outdoor events, first aid. The ones I have are kind of expensive bamboo. If They were cheaper ..
If they could’ve figured out how to get shelf stable colby jack cheese cubes in that ration, that would’ve been the cherry on top 👌
Canadian MREs are a different level. I'd love to get my hands on some of the more rare options
Working for a much better company, not giving the negative thoughts any free rent, and I'm the healthiest I've ever been. Thanks for giving us an awesome outlet Steve. YOU DA MAN!
My sunday morning is now blessed with steve not only one, but two mre videos

Steve, you can always slice the beef jerky through the clear plastic, not always at the seams of the heat seal - it would look good for the shot as well with the beef jerky "blooming" from the package.
I like the sound of that, will be trying this out next time to see how it goes. Thanks man!
@@Steve1989MRE Nice!
I like how you described the smell as purple and I knew exactly what that smells like.
STEVE!!! So awesome to see you back in action, alright! NICE!

Steve being an absolute unit: "You'd need to be hulkish strong to open this." Steves' biceps: Do I mean so little to you?
The familiarity of this channel provides me great comfort. Steve really knows how to appreciate the little things in life.
After watching the US 1993 MRE video, I had the best sleep in weeks. I actually fell asleep on my sofa after the longest time. Not because it was boring, but because it made me feel safe like a kid again in this crazy world.
We can buy the Nescafe coffee, individually portioned like in the MRE in grocery stores here in Canada. Always have a couple on hand :)
The french vanilla one is so good!
or maybe don't support Nestle?
When they realized how many tons of care packages being shipped to us in afghanistan that contained primarly nescafe 3 in 1s and protien powder... they started putting it in the rations lol... both are super cheap and well loved.
Love your videos Steve! I just tried a Canadian MRE about a month ago, found it pretty amazing! Keep the MREs comin man!
A lot of reviewers have commented about the jerky in the Canadian rations being tasty and easily chewable.
A very informative review, once again Steve.
Kind of surprised Steve (or one of us) hasn't started an asmr side channel with just 4-8 hour loops of clips of him shaking almond bags, clinking spoons on glass, crumpling wrappers, etc. A bonus ten hour loop of him saying "nice" goes without saying.
I've been watching your mini movies for quite a time, and Steve I can't figure out how your still alive, with some of the rations you tested for us, but I'm really glad you are. Keep doing what you do. Cheers.
Canadians have the best MRE's from what I have seen, the packaging and quality of food is second to none.
France, Spain and Italy apparently have the best. But Tbf those counties are know for their good food.
French for me. Jelly every time I see one.
nice!
This meal was made for a 7 year old's palate... there was literally no good quality food in this entire video, unless your diet consists of 7-11 24/7.
It was a snack pack dude@@jong2359
So happy to see Steve back!
It's great to be back Phillip thanks so much! Nice
No question, one of the most detailed human beings on TH-cam. Love the videos, man! Such a great watch, every time!
I remember quite fondly the 1990's era infamous Canadian breakfast menu item - the cheese omelet. I have watched most of your wonderful videos where I get to learn what soldiers past and present fueled themselves with but I don't think I've seen the classic 90s egg and cheese dish. One of two terrible things would happen if you had it in a pack with you or if it was a very hot climate. The first (and most entertaining) was that you would hear a loud pop, breakfast has exploded unopened. And the second and more common if a bit less fun would be the meal itself expanding in its packaging, but the difference from the first explosive one would still be edible. The expansion in the second would be the gasses in the pack from the omelet spoiling (it was obvious too the omelet took on a green/orange hue). Thank you Steve for these videos I really do enjoy seeing what fueled the soldiers from other countries, and the past Canadian/Americans as well.
as a person heading up to Canada you couldnt pick a better time im glad that you are alive sorry I just smoked too much weed and had a few drinks but I love your videos big fan

All I want in life is permission to live with Steve for just a month. No more, no less.
I would love to wake up every morning to the sweet smell of type II in the air. Meet Steve at the kitchen table to crack open a breakfast. Just for him to eat. I want to just listen to him explain it and watch him eat it.
Then lunch and dinner.
By the end of the week, I'll be starving myself and ready to go back home.
Hopefully, while watching, I am hoping I occasionally hear, "Hey, try some of these delectable yet thirst provoking crackers."
One can only dream.
I do love the music in the intros for these videos. So soothing and chill, but pairs well with the snapshots of soldiers.
Happy Thanksgiving to all the Canadian Armed Forces who might be currently eating this very meal. We are thankful for your service.
They will get a turkey dinner today or tomorrow. They will not be eating something like this.
@@margaretmacgillicuddy4944 I'm so happy to hear this!
@@brendawhitehead7575 Canadian soldiers are truly treated well for food and rations. We are known as the best fed forces in the world. Canadian holidays are always observed and special measures are taken to give comfort food to deployed troops. We would always tease the UK 🇬🇧 deployed troops when they commented about our special treats, we would say “I guess the Queen, now King Charles loves us best “
@@margaretmacgillicuddy4944 You are absolutely NOT known as the "best fed forces in the world". Do Canadians really tell themselves this? Delusional lmao
@@margaretmacgillicuddy4944It's easy to afford such comforts when your military is as weak and pitiful as ours. Glad they all get turkey dinners - can we splurge a little and get the lads some new guns and vehicles maybe? You know, the main point of having an army? Being able to defend anything? Might as well just get rid of the military spending and let the USA assume full time babysitting duty since that's who we rely on for defence anyway. Let's be honest. Our forces would do nothing against China or Russia if push came to shove.
CF can't even hold members. Turnover rate is at an all time high. Nobody wants to bother what with every action being scrutinized for "political correctness" and no money for anything but presumably turkey dinners. A joke, through and through.

I still buy Nescafe sweet & creamy from my grocery store. Reminds me of some good times in the bush with the Canadian army circa 90's.
When the world needs him the most, he returns.
If CAF started to make ration packets for sale on the civilian market, that military budget deficit would go away pretty damn fast.
The problem is military rations tend to be quite costly for the amount of food you get due to many factors like R&D costs and government contracts. This is an enthusiasts hobby and not something people normally live on for a reason, even soldiers try to set up actual kitchens whenever possible.
@@Toastybees Economy of scale, if they produce and sell more of it, the R&D cost per unit will go down. Not to mention, most of their menus existed for a decade now. So production formula is well known.

Seems like a lot of these strike rations are made with elements meant to be eaten on the go and others made for either making camp or holding a position. The drinks might be carried in a canteen but the coffee is for comfort. Cornbread and chocolate bar when you have time and the jerky and almonds for just popping in your mouth as you're moving to keep your blood sugar up. And the minimal packaging can be packed or buried depending on the situation. We're seeing a lot in Ukraine that trash left all in the open is the best way to figure out where to point your artillery.
This is the ultimate mre review. Every country needs to watch and listen.
