    Hi Dan, first one of your videos. I found it interesting, however I do not believe that I could live in the province unless it is real close to a city. Take care of yourself and your wife. Stay safe and healthy plus have fun when you all move to the Philippines.

      Hi there Lazy Larry...welcome. I'm more of a city dweller myself. My wife and I have been discussing the idea of living in Cebu during typhoon season.

    125 for food, that's going to be hard to do for a foreigner.
    250 is more real and that's on the lower end.
    One must always think of health insurance living here.
    So many say " well I'll just fly back home for care.
    That's great as long as it's not something like an emergency.
    Also all the little things do add up, like visas.
    So sure 800 may work in a short run, but if you plan to stay here long term

      I agree that food prices will continue to rise. Inflation should also be a concern. Health care is a tough one for me. I do have an emergency fund but don't know if it will be enough.

    Everyone's situations are different, for me, and wife, in a small city in Mindanao, about $1400. Friends and family, children in need can change that figure significantly.

      @dansretirementjourneyphili6794  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yes. You make a great point here. Depends on where you live, and you'll likely need more money if you are a married couple with children or if you plan on supporting other family members.

    My wife is from northern Leyte and seriously thought about living around Palompon but if medical emergency happens being an hour away from a hospital could be a deal breaker. Living cheaper in the province is tempting but could be fatal. After watching a hundred videos on how much you need in the Philippines it’s definitely different for everyone. My wife and I will own our home and not pay rent so 800 is doable.Your health should be priority living abroad so good luck to everyone.

    • @dansretirementjourneyphili6794
      @dansretirementjourneyphili6794  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes. Access to good medical care is very important. Thankfully, it's improving quite fast in Leyte. Modern hospitals and clinics have been built or are in the planning stages. Minnie and I will most likely be living part time near a couple of the best hospitals in Cebu. This subject needs careful consideration for sure!

      In early 2000's I lived on 600 a month in Cebu, I got a small efficiency in a gated community, (Dr.s house) for 200 a month all utilities paid. I ate out almost all the time, I NEVER used Taxies if you can't learn jeepnies or that is below your standards better start at 2k a month budget. (If ya want a thrill take the bus to Toledo on a Friday night bus races) Transportation will separate you from your money real quick. I would get a scooter myself. $1500 well spent. I don't mind getting wet.

    Can you survive on $800 a month, yup. But if you don't have money saved for emergencies you could die. Most retirees don't want to just survive, they want to live. Making $1500+ a month and trying to live on $800, Now that maybe a plan

    Help.... but first thank you for the video, very informative. I'll be arriving in Baybay around July7 or 8. I would like to stay at least a month. My girlfriend lives very close to the 7 day Adventist church, I believe that's on Bonifacio st. I don't want to do a hotel or Airbnb, that would be fairly expensive. Does anyone know of any rentals near there? And do any xpats get together in Baybay? Last time I was there I did do an Airbnb but wasn't there that long. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank You :)

    Use fans not AC, eat only local, and you're saving your entire western housing cost minus $l20. So if you spend $800 on housing your $800 is actually $1480: you're saving $680 on housing, and if you don't eat imported food you're spending no more elsewhere. Problem is, very few can do that.
