I dont see it as judgement I see it as a warning from God through his people that even in the darkness the light can be revealed. In other words Robert Morris thought he had got away with it long ago and God says the vengence is mine so through his people making Robert Morris aware that what he did God will continue to reveal his sickness and denials! God does forgive but the residue from the sin will always be there! Just like God spoke through the ass or how he sent the great fish to Jonah and tomented Jonah in his belly because he was running from Gods will its the same, as the outspoken God spoken through his people that is the modern day Great Fish that will torment those that have strayed away from Gods Will. I think Cindy’s dad should have gone to the authorities when Cindy told him about what RM did and had him arrested and RM would be behind bar today.

Unfortunately, at this time in history, we have social media...all "news" and information is broadcast in real time to the masses. God chose to shine the light on the darkness now, so, it is what it is. Hopefully, many will self check because of so much discussion, and get things right with God that aren't going so well.
He never should have been a pastor in the first place. Where is a video from him admitting,from his own mouth, that he abused a child, for years, and asking for God's forgiveness and the forgiveness of the church? Where is the video from him saying that he stepped down because he realizes he doesn't meet the Biblical qualifications to be a pastor,and he never did - not just because he's a 'distraction'? Once the elders knew the whole truth of this situation, why didn't they fire him? Robert Morris shouldn't have had the option of whether or not he resigned. This still all sounds like a cover up and damage control to me.

Why didn't they go to the authorities when her parents first found out. My 15 years old daughter was sexually molested. I went straight to the authorities before we took matters into our own hands and ended up in prison ourselves. You are right. This could have been avoided if the parents had gone to the authorities then. There is no excuse for them not reporting this. I am not excusing Robert Morris but neither Cindy's family. Reporting him to the authorities doesn't not go against Scriptures

In all likelihood the constitution and bylaws don't allow for the firing of the pastor. In a matter like this the board would simply insist on his resignation.

There are legal reasons to let him resign - such as ineligibility for unemployment benefits. Also, if you weren’t aware, this all happened prior to Gateway Church forming, and the current elders at Gateway claim they did not know a child was involved. I do agree with you, however, that his son should not be the next Pastor. For one, he lacks the experience needed to pastor a congregation of 100,000+ people. Also, I think the church would benefit from a fresh start - which includes a new board of elders given how this whole situation was handled with the GW congregation.

It is a bad message for a church to be giving that they are prepared to put the man's unemployment benefits claim before what is right in decent and normal business practice. As in another case of child sexual abuse which was covered up by the church, the Pastor involved in the cover up did actually have his credentials removed BUT is still to this day preaching that HE resigned and was guilty of no wrong doing. It is a dangerous path, I would suggest to consider "eligibility for unemployment benefits" as a reason to sack this fellow immediately. If the church is all it claims then the members of the congregation will see to his and his family's future well-being and care of him as professing Christians should, but manipulating the situation to obtain a financial benefit.... Typically church board members aren't compensated. If they are, they're basically just compensated for their time. You're not going to get rich by serving on a church board.
The problem is there are several other leaders in the church engaged in inappropriate activity with adults. Adultery is also a sin. Its hard for someone with their hand in the jar to accuse someone else of taking cookies. There is some soul searching to do in the church leaders as a whole. These activities drove leaders to quit this church over the years. We all need to search our hearts.

It occurred before Gateway was started as a church. The current elders all state they did not know a child was involved. The blame lies on the elders at the church he attended back in the 1980’s when it occurred, and those that reinstated him only 2 short years later.

He wants us to care for one another, especially widows, fatherless, poor and those afflicted or abused. "To do righteousness and justice is more desirable to the LORD than sacrifice." Proverbs 21:3 "In their greed these teachers will exploit you with fabricated stories. Their condemnation has long been hanging over them, and their destruction has not been sleeping." 2 Peter 2:3 These mega churches love to tell entertaining stories but may throw in a scripture or two. Leave these churches. "Leave them; they are blind guides. If the blind lead the blind, both will fall into a pit.” Matthew 15:14 “Then I heard another voice calling from heaven, “Come away from her, my people. Do not take part in her sins, or you will be punished with her.” Revelation 18:4
As believers we need to be careful not to jump to conclusions just because others are saying that they are guilty of some wrong.

Of course what RM did is horrible as a young male adult in early 20's, we all get that. But Dad and family did not seek legal recourse for some reason, we do not know. They forgave, they knew RM was not a monster and they asked him not to preach. He sought help, and after few years found grace and restoration. Like the woman caught in adultery who deserved to be stoned to death, Jesus did not condemn and said Go and sin no more. RM went and sinned no more, now in mid 20's (men do not completely develop in maturity till mid 20's, much later then women) and for next 37 years had gone and sinned no more. I hardly heard of RM until this came out, but he has been a part of years and decades of untold good since his restoration. Just like David the Adulterer and responsible for murder and Moses the leader who committed murder in his life, God used them. Now, saying all this, I do not cheapen the pain Cindy has experienced in life and want her to be whole in only the way Jesus can make her. But, saying this, how does what now has happened actually really heal her. Revenge is not healing. Her and famy demanding the request he never preach is not theirs to say, yes they could have done more 37 years ago, but they did not. Now when she is 54( and don't let the mental health people justify it is ok 37 years later), that somehow this will heal her? Yes it was wrong, but so is so much of what we all do is wrong. But we cannot say we truly forgave when 37 years later at age 54( I am in my 60's) that now it is good as a Christian to come out now and tell the world. This advice was wrong and the pain it has now caused is way worse then an immature young male doing what he did. I get it, if he was doing this now, he needs prison, but family chose no to go this way and now, in middle of election cycle (which does matter) and his name is connected to a presidential candidate, yes we got to be loud and take everyone down and...RM, the son , the Elders, and anyone who may have known something. Does this heal anyone? Does this help anyone? No, this is what unforgiveness does, and I am sorry but life was unfair to Cindy when teenager, but she has had time to heal and coming out at 54 yrs old, I do not get it, it helps no one!! I know they tried, spoke about it and no one heard, till now. But the judgment they wanted, he shall not preach was not their's to make and what held them in bondage to the past. Yes RM should have done more to help family and Cindy, but all these years later, now coming out only hurts others from their root of bitterness and has defiled so many now innocent collateral people that the honor would have been to forgive RM and let the good he is doing help others. And the statements, she was 12, does not help anything. It was the past, it was confessed to family, no charges filed, and 37 years later talking about it in such media blitz, will not undo the pain or injury, only Jesus can heal and the Christian who demands "consequences " as I hear, remember, Jesus said if u think in hate, u are a murderer, if u think in lust, u are an adulterer, and he that is without sin, throw the first stone, get off your high mindedness, recognize u have sin that deserves hell and punishment, but u found mercy, show some to RM and help heal Cindy and u preachers, shame on u all, u all are just worried about your ministry and donations, u side only with Cindy, and u show no mercy to RM and throw him under the bus, may u find God's grace and show mercy. My thoughts . I am probably the only one who says something to help RM and i have known little of him, i am listening, observing and seeing all the hate and vitrous comments made by Christians in judgement is sad, look inward and reflect and stop saying she was 12, it changes nothing and gives no place after 37 years for grace and restoration. You are what is wrong with the church, judgement begins in the house of the Lord and we are absolutely called to judge the actions and heresy's of those in leadership and they know it. He was too charismatic and too much money was at stake. I do not believe that there is an anointing of God on this church. A worldly church reaped worldly riches. There is no excuse for this man to have Ever been in a leadership role. Forgiveness comes with true repentance. He's been covering his sin for a long time. This could be God's mercy on him by bringing this to the light. Nonetheless this totally disqualifies him from leadership. He should be in front of the pulpit not behind it.
I didn't agree with all his teachings, and of course, from the details that came out in the correspondence he had with Cindy, it was upsetting. Robert was wrong and how he handled this. He should have reached out to Cindy personally as she requested, provided the financial restitution she was due, and begged for her forgiveness. I pray for him, his wife, his marriage, his family, the Gateway members, and most importantly, for Cindy. Praying that somehow out of all this, mercy and grace may be extended, and forgiveness. Not to condone what happened, but to give no place to the enemy. We all have skeletons in our closet in many respects. Ultimately, no one can judge.

My understanding is that he was transparent 35 years ago. I was a 12-year-old girl and many of my contemporaries were active sexually, and this was decades ago. In my early 20s I volunteered to be a counselor at non- church retreat for fifth graders, and I remember being shocked at them talking about sexual activity as if it was common place. Wow. Just wow. I wasn’t there when any of this happened that is filling the news. I do know that she went to his room. I do know that in 2005 she was insisting that he personally call her while he was being accountable, and not wanting to speak directly with her, but rather having other people speak with her. She kept insisting that he call her. That seems very controlling and aggressive to me. And no one has mentioned King David. He committed adultery and murder. He didn’t confess until Nathan the prophet called him out, and did so with wisdom . How many people actually read the Bible and understand sin, redemption, and spiritual warfare? This is a perfect storm trap and scheme of the enemy, but my God is bigger than all of it. God will stand. God’s people will stand, and God’s purposes will be accomplished. We win.
