Absolutely super video. Simple and easy to understand the kinetics of the serve. Do make one for the one backhand too.
    Much appreciated

I noticed you turn your head as the racket drops but FED didn’t until almost after impact . Can you comment on that?

Wow, what a great observation. I didn't even realize that. Fed was hitting a 2nd serve is this video so he was not opening his shoulders/hips up to the court as much. My demonstration of the racquet drop would clearly be for a 1st serve where I would be opening my hips and shoulders. I need to think this through. I want to see the differences and nuances demonstrated when hitting 1st serves vs 2nd serves. Thanks for your comment Nabeen! JF

@@topspintennis I think one thing you might want to consider in your meditations on this subject is the idea of "keeping the front side on edge" through the serve. This helps aid the shoulder-over-shoulder rotation and prevents control-robbing over rotation.
One thing I think you forgot to mention regarding the Racquet Head Drop is pulling down with the tossing arm's elbow along with your launch in order to cause shoulder-over-shoulder rotation.
It's the combination of both the launch and the elbow-pull that causes the inertial drop into the slot.
I don't mean to be overcritical - I love your videos and I'm appreciative of the work you've done for Congruent Tennis. Just trying to help!
Thanks again for another useful video. I've already been recommending my students to your channel for supplemental study. You've made my job easier!

I can do all that in shadow swing, but when I do real serve, very little drop and my grip doesnt feel tighter, very very frustrating, most guys I play that have a bad drop also have bad shadow swing, served wrong way for years, believe its just hard to break, not sure if it could be tight shoulder, was coached not to use shoulder all about loose wrist

Don’t worry I suffer the exact same problem and have yet to fix it myself. I’ve tried tieing a shoelace to top of racket, placed sponge and elbow sleeve, using a water bottle, using sock with 2 balls inside etc, I’ve yet to fix it myself, so I’d love someone to provide a solution. My next step will be to work on stretching exercises, maybe being more loose will allow a natural fix on its own.

@@topspin1715 If flexibility is your problem, try assuming the racket drop position and see how much muscular tension you encounter with a good, deep drop. If there's a lot of tension then it's time to think about a stretching regimen. With any stretching regimen, don't force the stretch and allow plenty of time for your muscles to adapt.

@@topspintennis I can do the motion in the shadow and throw a ball, its almost like my mind doesnt trust the racket to go down and back up when I do a real serve. I have actually served with a somewhat deeper drop when I physically drop the racket, but most of the time elbow doesnt come forward and up and racket hits my back. I know racket should drop naturally. Your platform stance serve looks great!

I can't throw a ball right handed, so maybe it's time to switch to serving left handed (47 years old). I'll definitely have the required flexibility.

John, would there be a point where you have run out of ideas for a video? I enjoy your videos because they are interesting but you seem to cater to the beginner to intermediate tennis player. I would like to see more advanced techniques one day. Maybe when you hit 20K subscribers, you might consider an advanced topic.
