The thing is, you even mentioned that it could be "can't move rooks", but realize he moved his rooks already. So the leap to "can't move knights" wasn't so big. He is an IM and didn't develop his knights by move 20, you should get sus.
@hannahsayce1 the only two pieces he had on the back rank was his two knights that hadn't moved once. I looked in the database... that's never happened before.
@@hannahsayce1 I was thinking about how OTB would work- you'd need either a bowl of secret drawbacks that you'd both contribute to, or a neutral third person to give you both your drawbacks.
Ha that was edge of the seat stuff. Your opponent was definitely 'saddled' with the easier drawback 🐎, classic case of 'knight-mares' on the board 🙈. Loved it! 😂
I was thrilled to see a Hannah Versus Eric games live. I love to watch these Collab videos, and this was a very fun event to watch live, and I'm so ecstatic for the potential of more of these types of Chess Variant Videos and Livestreams in the Future. 😊
That was great. I've watched Rosen play this on his channel, but it's much better seeing both players at the same time like this, hilarious listening to them try to guess what the drawback is. I wish they would have a version of this where both players have the same drawback. It would be a different type of game in which it's a level playing field but it's about trying to cleverly exploit the condition to force your opponent into a difficult situation.
glad you enjoyed this video! And that’s a great idea, there’s definitely some fun in the mystery and guessing what your opponent’s drawback is, but having the same drawback would be an interesting strategical battle!
Well, at that point you're just playing a chess variant. The possibility of the two players having _different_ drawbacks is kind of the point of the "Drawback Chess" variant in particular, I think.
It was a really entertaining video, and I enjoyed watching it. :) Drawback Chess is a really cool variant of chess. Some rules are tricky, but things become familiar once you play a couple of games. Always love these collabs with Eric Rosen. He's awesome and so nice. Excellent work with the thumbnail and editing by adding his perspective to the video as well.

It is a lot of fun! That could be helpful to know what drawbacks are possible, and figure it out from there :D It was my first time playing, so I presume that after some more games, you'd get a better idea of all the possible options.
I said 'both of ours were relatively "easy"', referring to the rating assigned to those by the developers. It wasn't my opinion, just stating the difficulty they were assigned as :D
@@MyBiPolarBearMax "Drawback difficulty ratings are calculated adaptively using an elo system. Your games help us determine how difficult each drawback is! It's very easy to say, "haha, you couldn't decode that not moving the knights was his drawback". What if Eric's drawback was actually not moving any pieces ahead of his pawns? It would be a brilliant prediction by her. And again, it was just her 1-2 game for Drawback Chess. When you read the rules, you get to know that a lot of drawbacks are possible.
