  • This is an unboxing and first-look at and Icom IC-7300 that I did about 3 years ago. I took the important pieces from the video and condensed it down into a new video, along with a QSO that I made at the end. This radio is still a great choice for any HF Operator today so I wanted to re-share the video

I have owned this radio for around a year and a half. Still love it. Lots of features for the money. There is a learning curve and that is why you sometimes see mixed reviews. It is an SDR direct sample so once you learn the settings and how to use them you can pull out weak signals with ease and the audio on receive is awesome!!! I run a pair of SP-33 ICOM speakers on mine.

I bought the 7300 and 9700 a few months ago, they've been great rigs! I also own the 7100 mobile rig and used it at home for a couple years without any issues. Going to install the 7100 in my truck along with the auto tuner I have for it.

Yes. I have one & I love it! Even tho it's Icom's "bottom" SDR transceiver, there's nothing "bottom" about it! It just has ONE receiver instead of two, that's all. I also have a Yaesu FTDX101MP & I can say that I'd be happy with either one! ALL of Icom's radios are great, ever the super hets. They DO NOT make "bad" radios!

I have mine 7300 for about 2 1/2 years now. still learning tricks with it. took me a few months to learn most of the tricks. I did not get that manual on cd but the paper one was in box. I have the pdf file. love the heavy power cord. I got extras. have the same made in china fan on back. when power 50% or less fan does not run much . I did 1 mod to mine. took one diode off for TX. I have bult in tuner . works ok. if match is way off it wont tune. does CTCSS and DTS tones. FM repeaters. forgot my antenna analyzer on a portable set up. remembers that it does a SWR graph across the band. tuned my dipole that way. works great on LiFePO4 battery. it has voltage display on meter. current as well. love the temp display. great for digital. I take it tent camping . mike K8MRD loves his . lots of POTA on it. love the sound card bult in . easy set up to laptop. 73's

I love the multi meter, especially with digital modes where you need to watch your power, ALC and SWR at the same time. The SWR graph that he was talking on it not done that way. You are supposed to just key the mic several times and it gets a reading each time at a different frequency. That is also a feature that I love. I have the same thing on my IC-7100. I plan on getting another 7300 when I have the money. Thanks for posting.

Chose this as my first transceiver based on this video and a few others. Contemplated the Yaesu FT-991A, but with the eventual plan of reaching out further, the VHF/UHF offerings on the Yaesu didn't seem relevant. Plus the 7300 seems to be a little easier to use and figure out. I've also got a Yaesu FT-101ZD from my uncle via my dad I may eventually toy around with, but I think this will be what I'm on 99% of the time.

Thanks for unboxing video. Just receive my 7300. I know it's obvious, but I have yet to see a 7300 unboxing video that actually walks through the power cable connect to power supply....as it comes with no connecter. As my first HAM radio ever, I have no ham supplies on hand and as I live in Alaska most items including connectors and wire have be ordered and shipped. Slowely building my supply. it's not a big deal but would be curious to see what folks are using to connect power cable to power supply. Possibly, I've actually broken the dumb question barrier :)

K3/S for me. Technical support from Icom sucks in EU. And K3 is modular. If i want to watch TV then ill buy a TV not a Icom.
