Later on in this Episode a old Schoolmate of Maurice John Millwood says that of all of the Young Warlocks his Resitation of Romeo was by far the Best so yes Maurice knew William Shakespeare but he and Endora knew Caesar because there Marriage was 10 Century's Old which is why he said he and his Wife have a some what of a Informal Marriage Hent it was a Open Marriage.
The only 2 tv characters that wore caftans/mumu's w/accessories and looked good in them were Endora and Mrs Roper (three's company).
I think Endora was the only elegant, sophisticated older lady that I have ever seen before or since.
The stuff she wore in that show was simply stunning!
She is simply irreplaceable, both as an actor and as a person!

If you showed this to kids now they would have no idea of what the secretary was doing with her hands 🤣 also, miss that sound of typing... my dad had a typewriter that he often used to type letters on.. not so fast.. but the sound brings back memories... Bless you dad.. we all loved watching Bewitched together...
Those were the days when it was acceptable to send your 4 year old out to play by herself on a metal swing set and slide. And as a kid from that era, I’m here to tell ya that was the norm. Mothers would send their kids out to play unsupervised all the time. Sometimes with instructions such as “go outside and find something to do and don’t come back until lunchtime.” Free range kids was real. We rode our bikes everywhere. We went to see movies with our friends by ourselves. We went to malls by ourselves. Our parents would drop us off at these places. I’m talking about 10 years old not even teen years. It certainly is different today. Parents would be arrested for sending their kids out by themselves.
To their own back yards to play on a swing set? I think that's a bit of an exaggeration.
That was the best way to grow up
I don't know where parents would get arrested but I haven't seen it. I think that it's more about safety & concern for their kids that prompts then close
We also drank out of garden hoses. Still do if I feel like it.
Yes I remember those days very well everything you said is how lived my life rode our bikes all over the neighborhood and we were gone for the day mom and dad didn’t see us until dinner time.
I believe this is the episode that Samantha asks her if she’s a thespian, and her reply TOTALLY went over my head when I was a child. I got it when I was grown.
Seeing that swing-set really takes me back...

They simply don't make actors (or shows for that matter) like they used to.
I loved the cast of Bewitched! They were all so great, and really made the characters come alive!

1) Maurice is a total ham.
2) There something about Endoras line “Any witch can type a Shakespearean soliloquy” that I love how she enunciates.
3) Abigail’s Pucci dress is gorgeous.
4) I never knew how risqué some of the dialogue is/was until I saw the reruns as an adult.
5) Endora and Maurice are both as classy as they come.
Maurice Evans was famous for his Hamlet, so I always got a laugh when they had him overdo Shakespeare.
Later in the episode, 'My dear, are you a thespian?" "I beg your pardon!"

You can be physically stronger than your wife but still fear her disapproval.
The writers weren't consistent on that point.

@@grease58 Another brilliant line of dialog is from the episode where Tabita goes to visit Darrin's parents for the weekend. Endora pops in and Mrs. Stevens offers her a cookie. Endora asks if they're from an Alice B. Toklas recipe. I still laugh at that line.
Endora is one powerful witch! She has that old magic and is so skillful at using it.
I thought only the witch that casted the spell could cancel it
I guess senior warlocks have more power. Not much has changed with the Feminist movement.

They can cancel it if they know the spell that was used. In this case, Maurice saw Endora cast it so he knew how she did it.
Yes I thought that to, there have been some episodes, where Samantha couldn't reverse the spell on Darrin for example, as it was not her spell, or something like that.
Their witchcraft "rules" were all over the board during the 8 seasons of Bewitched. There were many episodes where it was plainly stated that only the witch who cast the spell could reverse it, yet in other episodes such as this one they can.
In some episode, it was also said that to reverse a spell, it also depended on how powerful the witch was. In this case, it seems that Endora and Maurice were equally powerful, which is why Maurice was able to reverse it.
In this episode Samantha tells her older daughter Tabitha she's expecting another baby. 👶
This ep was totally for the grownups! And one of the reasons why "Bewitched" was a huge success for ABC lasting many years.🎃

Yes. It's not unusual that, when they cast a spell on the house or the yard, whatever was there originally was replaced by whatever the spell changed.
I prefer Eudoras bright red elaborate hairdo, to this more subdued one, the other is very Eudorean lol. I thought Agnes Moorehead was more attractive than Samantha or the other lady, she looked more unusual and striking, classical. You notice her more on set.
Maurice Evans appeared in more US TV Shakespearean productions than any other actor.
Never got the recognition he deserved imo.

Another inconsistency with the characters. Maurice should not have been able to restore Ms. Beecham. Endora cast the spell and only she should have been able to reverse it.
I agree. Unless there is a unwritten rule when a more powerful warlock can undo someone else’s spell.

@@space4099 In one episode, Maurice was able to send Endora and two other witches to a snowy mountain, until he agreed to bring them back. When Maurice was cross, she never confronted him directly. Maurice is more powerful in my view.
He didn't reverse Endoras Spell he can't but he could turn a Old Ms.Beachman into a Young Ms.Beachman this was Explained over the Course of the Series in one Episode Esmarelda sneezes and turns a Toy Lion into a Real one Samantha ask her what it was she tells her it wax a Toy Lion and Samantha turns it into a Toy Lion even Darren say before she dose that he thought she couldn't Reverse another witches Spell and she says I can't but I can turn that Lion into a Toy Lion so you see Maurice didn't Reverse Endoras Spell he simply cast a Youth Spell making her Young again.
Who cares about who reverses spells. Just enjoy👍

I gotta say that the rules of witchcraft on this show were very inconsistent. One minute, they make a big stink about witches not being able to undo other witches spells when the plot calls for it. The next, they show someone doing just that. Love the show, but this was always one of my pet peeves.
When husbands and wives are at odds, no rules can stand.
My reach to comment as well. I now recall yet again feeling out of sorts. Like the grocery cart is all wobbly.
Kinda like with Star Trek and whether or not you can beam through shields.

I’ve heard that too. I think it had to do with level of power. Maurice is more powerful than endora, although Samantha’s side of the family is also very powerful. Endora, is no joke. :)

While I love Endora, I never approved of rudeness. She should have shook that assistants hand, regardless of her feelings.
While I will agree that Endora was not the nicest person at all. The fact the Maurice was blatantly flirting/hiring this other witch only because he is end goal was to flirt and/or possibly infidelity. I mean her and Maurice are not close what so ever, but they are both the jealous type so her reaction

You know all the other actors just doted on Tabitha's actor.
Erin Murphy mentioned once in an interview how much she liked it when Maurice was on the show. I guess he especially doted on her.

@@boredlawyer3382 Later in this episode Endora mentioned to Samantha that she was going to the Witches Council to get an ectoplasmic interlocatory(divorce between a witch and a warlock) from Maurice. She didn't go through with it ; she only said that because she was jealous of his gorgeous secretary. Then in order to make Maurice jealous, Endora conjured up an old rival of his named John Van Millwood and made it look like they were having a fling.
Informal marriage or open. It is always fascinating to me that this series didn’t shame open marriage. It was welcoming and accepted. Analyzing it more, I think that Endora’s kink was to watch her husband get jealous and one upping him. The same goes to him as well. At the end, you knew that they really loved each other while “fucking” other hahaha
Pretty sure the "informal marriage" Maurice and Endora had was by mutual consent. Not sure why Samantha thought it was her place to insert herself in their relationship and stir up a bunch of shit...
Here's the thing: You're never too old to not like someone your parent is flirting with. My grandfather (RIP) had four daughters and every time he met a new female friend my loving aunts and my adoring mother would make them feel as welcome as Covid in a cancer ward.

So, the Witching World of Bewitched is not much different than the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. It looks fun, but it's precarious as all get out. She did it like it was nothing to just alter the other witch's looks and age.

Yes. When we take away the laugh track, the world of Samantha's people looks frankly scary and terrifying and ruthless. Darren's aversion to it suddenly looks a lot more reasonable, too.

Maurice was the stronger. In general unless the witch is older and more experienced, warlocks were more powerful than witches, in the general sense, there are exceptions of course, but usually its the case.

No one pushed her, she did everything she wanted to of her own accord. Ms. Moorehead didn't take anyone's sh*t and if she didn't want to do something, she didn't. She was her own person.
