Thanks Jason for the in-depth review of coffee and coffee beans. I thought ice coffee was the same as cold brew but Andy introduced me to cold brew on our last hike. I think it has lots of caffeine in it, more than regular coffee.
Hey John! I believe you are right about cold brew, there is something in the process that allows it to extract more coffee but I haven't looked to far into how most cold brews are done because I have a hard time drinking coffee not hot. I've always wanted to like cold coffee but no matter how much I try I just can't do it lol. Thanks for watching and being awesome!
We really enjoy it when you make "instructional" videos! I started blending coffee because of you and after you sent us the Aeropress and my god how my life has changed for the better. I made a perfect cup of blended coffee about a week ago, but it was 3:30am and I didn't pay attention to how much I used of what and now my mornings (and sometimes days) are spent trying to recreate it :) Thank you for all you do Jason. You are greatly appretiated!
Hey Rob and Sabrina! I'm so glad that I was able to help out. Check out the Aeromatic app if you haven't already and when blending either make a recipe or a bean entry to track what you did with your blend. Your support and friendship means a lot to me, thanks for watching and being awesome!
Hey Todd! Blending can be a lot of fun, I am really enjoying mixing different beans to get different experiences! Thanks for watching and being awesome!
ya know, I was watching this listening to you explaining blends and roasts (i didn't really know any of this previously, i just kinda drank whatever my mom brewed lol) and then i saw the bounty hunter symbol from star wars on your hat and that just made it that much better
Great minds, Jason! I just tried to record my first real coffee content this morning and dealt with this exact issue. Some new beans I tried claimed "medium roast" but taste REALLY light. Tried 2 different cups through the Aeropress at different water temps and ratios and they both sucked. Tried it again, blending in some other, darker beans...turned out really complex and very drinkable. I'll mix it down with more of the darker roast and it will be great. New beans from a new-to-me brand are always an experiment. That's part of the fun though. Thanks for the talk! Have a great week down there.
Hey Brother Grumpy! I can't wait to see your new video when it comes out! I have had so much fun blending various beans. Thanks for watching and being awesome!
Medium can be a range between roasters. May be medium light, medium, or medium dark... The lighter the roast the hot the temp, finer the grind, and the longer you have to let it steep. I love my aeropress. For some light roast, I have to use a fine grind, bring water to a boil, then let it set for 3-4 minutes before plunging. Light roasts can be tough to extract. If you have to blend your coffee, then you don't prefer that roast. If I don't like a roast, I prefer to find someone who likes it and let them enjoy it. Spread the joy of coffee!!! If no one likes it, then its a bad roast and gets tossed. You are paying for the roaster's skill and shouldn't have to modify it. There are too many awesome roaster out there to make do with the ones you don't care for. Most roasters offer blends. There is A LOT of skill involved and lots of cupping to get a good blend. That's all the fun of coffee. Sharing and trying new roasters. Great video and great ideas on saving a coffee you don't prefer. I just prefer to give it to someone who will enjoy it. Coffee makes the world go round. Keep up the good info!
Good to know. Thanks for the tip, Jason. Now I’m gonna need to try TripleCrown Coffee. I’m all about supporting companies that practice “Give A Shit” and give back to the trail and our public lands. #✌️
Great info Jason! I love this concept of blending. I love my Michigan cherry coffee but it's too light for my taste. Gonna try and blend some darker roast with it. You the man brother! When it comes to coffee you are my go to guy!
Hey Mike! This is exactly what I'm talking about! I've tried so many coffees that were good but lacking in one area or another, blending brings life to those beans! Your comment means alot to me, thanks for your support and being awesome!
Heck, I didn't know i was doing something with a name "Blending" .. I just thought I had coffee that I didn't like and coffee I do and would mix to use up the one I didn't. ;) thank you for the Teaching. I will watching for more info .
