Coach Prime wants the young men assembled in that room to handle the harsh truth that many of them are unlikely to be around due to the incoming competition from the talent he is bringing in. No more sugarcoating; no more hand holding; no more excuses. Coach is being dead honest and authentic in setting the expectations up front. So yes, it needed to be addressed up front and in that moment. He coming.

Most college aged kids are not mature enough to receive this message UNLESS they prioritize excellence in all they do BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY academics (learning and executing) and football (learning and executing). Those who “get it” will run through a wall for this guy because they believe he will do the same for him.

I loved seeing a player say the prayer and not one of those guys felt uncomfortable at Jackson. You just said a mouthful! In Auburn, a legend was INTERIM HC for four games. Sadly, they chose to go after a coach who was in the SEC and left under a scandal a few seasons ago. His first move was to name Cadillac Williams ASSOCIATE head coach and RB coach.
Why not give that brother a chance to run the program?......
Yeah OK... it's always racism huh? The fact that Coach Sanders has ZERO experience running a big time program had nothing to do with it at all I'm sure.... The fact that Sanders is quite a prima-donna and travels in a caravan like the POTUS also probably had nothing to do with it either... Come on man, if he was white you would have no problem with him not getting hired as a P5 head coach because most big-time schools DO NOT HIRE COACHES WITH NO PRIOR HC EXPERIENCE at a P5 school! What experience he does have as a head coach is just 3 years at a small college in the SWAC that is probably 90% black and only has 4600 students. Sorry but that is a LONG way from any P5 school which is likely to have 25,000 students or more, and where you need to recruit high school athletes in the surrounding states regardless of what color their skin is. As an Auburn grad myself, Coach Caddy not getting the HC job was pretty much a given. His highest level of experience is as an RB coach. We needed someone with experience to rebuild the program, not someone literally learning the job while on the job. You can bet your bottom dollar however that Auburn University made 100% sure that he was given a more important position on the new coaching staff. It was very likely a non-negotiable stipulation in the actual contract presented to the two guys Auburn went after, and it was almost certainly in Freeze's contract that he signed. I'm sure Freeze (who is not a dummy) would have kept him anyway, regardless of whether it was in the contract. Coach Caddy is being justly rewarded for his performance as the interim HC, getting both a huge raise AND the Associate Head Coach title in addition to remaining the head RB coach. After two or three years of working with Freeze he will be a VERY attractive candidate for any head coaching job at a bunch of schools in the southeast/south and along the east coast because he will have had EXPERIENCE by that time in all matters that the head coach deals with, and as a position coach.

Define underpaid with regards to the other HBCUs? I think people forget he was going to leave anyway regardless whether or not he got a salary increase at JSU. You know PWIs get far more funding than their HBCU counterparts. For example, even NCAT recently had funding taken away because the NC government said they were bringing in too many out of state students and didn't want the university population to reach their NC counterparts. So JSU can only pay what they can afford. The power 5 conferences have larger exposure so thats why Coach Sanders left, so he can grow his career. He's doing whats best for him, with hopes of using Colorado to make the next step to a NFL coaching job. He wasn't underpaid when compared to other HBCUs and the limited funding, so no need to make it seem like that was the problem. Things happen in life how they are supposed to.

@@jkc12g I am just saying that in general, I think the "racism" card is heavily overplayed by the left, but this case of coach hiring in the NCAA might be indicative of a problem in football, admittedly not the most important realm of our society. I do not believe in any broad "institutional racism" in America, but in certain professions, perhaps something needs to be addressed.
Most AD's want someone who can relate to the boosters giving the funds out. They just don't understand that Deion can work a room better than anyone.

I have a 15 Y/O Son he is going into his 2nd year of football , he is learning the game , he is a Honor Roll student since like 5th grade and he really kills it in weight room / shows his commitment there.
I say all that to say this , if he is serious about football and turns it into college ball then this is exactly the man I Pray he gets to have in his corner 1 day.
I say that to say this , so many parents are going to be pushing their children to play under coach prime , it can't be understated , the truth is powerful no matter how harsh it can sound sometimes.

These kids have no idea how blessed they are to have this man in their corner if they earn it.
A coach that doesn’t mince words and talks straight to the players is a refreshing change. Coach Prime is almost equal parts preacher and coach, but you get the feeling he truly cares for his players wants the absolute best for each one. It’s going to take time for him to build a winning team at a D1, Power 5 school but I believe he’ll get it done. He recruited head to head with the SEC and got talented kids to come to JSU. His departure is a big loss for JSU and I hope they can maintain momentum with his successor.
If hes able to spread his work ethics to these kids then this team will definitely get better real quick.

I’m a 42 year old man that’s never played football on any level in my life. I started packing my bags and cleaning out my stuff after realizing Coach Prime is about to cut me.
By far in my personal opinion this is the best college speech from a coach in a long long time.
Principals are required to be the best. This is a highly motivated message. Life changing experience!
