Ed is by far the most underrated youtuber. he's a comedic genius and is unbiased towards other people and their music. his videos should be seen by everyone. Never stop makin videos ed! i look forward to all of them that are to come.
I'm so glad you can't stand Suicide Silence either. I saw them open for Nile and I wanted to just go home. From the riffs to the vocalist's attitude and the boring song structures, it was a bad experience. Are there other high vocals you enjoy? My pseudo-band is trying to put together Thrash with a touch of Black on the melodies and vocals. The guy we have sounds pretty close to the song "Tears of a Marionette" by Shrum. Not exact of course, but I'm curious as to your view on those types of vox
I personally like Mitch Luckers vocals because it sounds like an extremely evil, tortured scream that I really appreciate. P.S. Chucks Vocals are amazing too.
@LifevsMusic I don't have to know all the different types as there are just to many forms of vocals. I even heard a name of 'pterodactyl vocals' i mean..gimme a break. I decide per band which vocals I do like and which I don't. But in most cases the highs are not my style, although I do like dark funeral and immortal vocals.
@Destrutionator You do understand that I d.loaded that part to show other people the difference. I didn't download it to save it and play it for myself. That song is not on my pc anymore. Would be a waste of money to go and buy a cd for what..10 seconds of music?
@natenate8484 I'm going to collect a bunch "FAB'S"....frequently asked bands. And make a good and bad list and drop it in a video. I just can't be answering all the 'what about this band' questions indeed. Suicide Silence has been asked for over a 100 times now.
2 Questions: What do you think about "Post-Hardcore" or "Hardcore" Like My Children My Bride? 3. Would you consider this a scream or a growl? /watch?v=k0Lu_SmIuZg
@LifevsMusic You should pay attention. I don't generalize high vocals, I just said that in every case of band I judge, but in deathcore in most cases!! are high vocals that annoy the crap out of me. And those vocals differ a lot from black metal vocals. Take any deathcore high vocal and compare that with the vocals from Immortal. World of difference.
@LifevsMusic I speak about deathcore because the high vocals that I do not like are mostly the ones of deathcore bands. This is not generalizing, just an observation. I listen to all bands people suggest to me because they want to know what I think of them, so I know a lot of bands. But even death metal bands can suck pretty bad.
@RB8JASON I don't see why not. I like old rock too ( stones, golden earing, eagles etc ) I could listen to a song of that and listen to Cannibal Corpse right after it. As long as you think it's good music, than that's all that matters.
Dude, I love your vids, I've been following you since january or february (2010) and I think that you have one of the most interesting channels (for me) on TH-cam... So, congrats and keep on going :)
I would love to support all the artists I like by buying their work, downloaded or not. However, here in America it seems very hard to buy the work bands from outside of my country. So, if I want the music I sometimes have no choice. It makes me mad that what I can or cannot buy is determined by American record companies and what they choose to carry. I liked the second one as well.
I loved the humor you put in this one lol. The ending just had me laughing out loud for like 10 minutes, your reaction to dutch music was like the reaction I had back when I went to school and rode the bus and the bus driver played slow country music everyday. Btw where did you get the Shrek cup?
Hey man I would lime to know what you think about this whole drum trigger issue and was wondering if you can post it on your next video so people can see. :)
Regarding downloading: What if it is a thing that can only be downloaded like (flameshield up) "If Guns are Outlawed, Can we Use Swords?" be Attack Attack? It's never been released on CD.
Haha, yeah well for me and others the video might be old, but for some it might be new. And I don't like to ignore people if I have the time to respond..;-)
whats your opinion on the big 4 of thrash metal? i mean do you think that metallica, megadeth, anthrax, and slayer deserve to be known as the big 4 or do you think there should be a different band in place of one of these?
I agree with you that suicide silence vocals aren't very good, at least in my opinion. However, I don't completely agree that all high vocals are bad or un-manly or what-have-you. If you listen to Bloodbath (which I sincerely hope you do, they're amazing), you'll hear that the vocals are predominately low or in the mid to low range. However, sometimes higher vocals are applied for accent, or for gang vocals (which sound brutal). I think if used correctly, high vocals are excellent. Thoughts?
Hey Ed, big fan of Amon Amarth here, and Under The Northern star is 1 of my favourites from them. Primarily i'm into melodic death/folk metal, and one band I think you should check out is Insomnium (from finland) who just signed with century records (along w/ dark tranquility, arch enemy, etc). They're basically a band with almost every song as epic as Under the Northern Star lol. They're not as brutal as Amon Amarth, but the music is amazing. Songs i'd suggest are Drawn To Black & Mortal Share
So, if you dislike high vocals, do you mean high vocals itself or just the bad ones (like Suicide Silence)? Because bands like Burzum (Varg has awesome vocal skills) or Anaal Nathrakh are really good in this. I would be interested in what you think about those two too.
I think downloading things can depend on your situation. I myself have downloaded gigabytes upon gigabytes of music over the years, because CDs were just too expensive. Now that I am graduated and have a very well paying job, I've started trying to collect at the very minimum my favorite CD from each of the bands I listen to. So I can say now "down with downloading" but at the time that's all I had.
I'm actually a huge fan of Suicide Silence, I simply like to hear it and I kind of like other "Deathcore" bands (I don't like the core term, never did). I am a 16 year old vocalist and I prefer low grunts and pig squeals, but I enjoy high screaming in some parts of a song. but it's a matter of taste. before I've heard Slayer live I wasn't a big fan, I was actually in the festival because of Maiden and I started to enjoy the more clean/heavy voice too. Keep on headbanging :D cheers
I know you're more of a vocalist and all, but I'd be happy if you said your opinion on death metal drummers. Like, do you have a favourite, do you like fast double bass, or blast beats, or both, and so on. Just wondering whatcha think.
hey ed speaking of high vocals. outside of death metal highs. what are your thoughts on say king diamonds highs or like rob halfords highs, or even say cam pips of 3 inches of blood
@renshammar Not really, an atheist believes ( cause there's no hard proof in the end ) that god does not exists. An Agnostic does not know but won't say he does and won't say he doesn't. I'm more like an agnost although I really don't believe in anything ( religion, aliens, ghosts, spirituality etc )
I didn't think either was "annoying", but Chuck sounds like he's better able to control his voice than the other one. I really like some of the higher vocals, being primarily a black metal fan.
you know, I was looking at the list of metal bands you have on your channel (thanks for dropping so many names!) but I noticed you don't have cattle decapitation on your list. Did you simply forget to put them on the list or are you not into them?
@knoxled Downing? So I can not say what I think of them? I really dislike the entire band, but if you like them...what's the harm? You will not dislike em too just because I say I do right? I don't ask or tell you to agree with me., I just tell you guys what I think...that's all.
@mockingwiththedead Nope, it does contain a beartrap and some food leftovers.....ow and I receive my mail in it as well. Ow and not to forget the beaver family that lives in there.
What do you think of the bands As I Lay Dying and All That Remains? I know they technically classify as 'metalcore', but (to me) they sound closer to metal than any type of hardcore. And do you like Dethklok? lol
Hey, Ed, I had 2 questions I wanted to ask you: 1. I'm assuming you don't just add random people/fans on Facebook, correct? 2. Only one person I know listens to death metal. Any suggestions on how I can find more people that listen to death metal?
@LifevsMusic Hold on, I don't own the rights to was IS or ISN'T ok. It's what I think, and yeah...I do think it's cool when a woman can make such a sound, but when a man goes so high I really dislike it. I can't really help that, nobody's perfect eh.
what the main goal with your awesome beard? it gonna bli longer than johan hegg or zakk wylde?... or just something that you think fits on you? it would be nice with a respond to it in a Q&A or something :D metal!
hmmm i ahve a question out of curiosity, i knwo you like brain drill, but ive noticed they do some really high pitched vocals, and i was curious as to if they bothered you or not, or if like they are done in such a way taht you still find it brutal enough to enjoy?
Dude but when he asked if you disliked chuck's vocals, he probably meant his later vocals like In the Sound of Perseverance, which was death's last album, those are pretty high vocals (I love em personally, at least the way chuck did it) Do you like THOSE type of vocals? Like the ones from Sound of perseverance?
here's one for you, are you a big fan of technical death metal such as brain drill or necrophagest compared to the more original stuff like death, or nile? also what is your opinion on power metal?
@CookingWithNapalm1 Not yet, but she will soon...she found a job here in Amsterdam cause she was still living with her parents. So within a month she lives at my place.
@ry13eee Well a lot of people act as if everybody needs to like the same stuff, as where I think that it's better if everybody has his own taste. Fights about which band, drummer, singer etc is better are also lame as shit. I like death better than SS, you like SS better than Death....well the world is still the same...as long as you enjoy the music of your choice, that's all that matters. And thanks for the compliment! ;-)

@TheDarkHarverest
Epica has a lot of good songs and a very good singer.
José and I saw them live once.
Very good band.
@UnidentifiedLifeform
It differs with each band, in Braindrill they sound good and still evil and raw....not to annoying high.
@guyslade
It's different with every band, DF fucking rocks and the vocals fit perfectly and I don't dislike them.
I love that you go back and look at the comments on your videos even after a year or more has past. :)
I have both cd's so far..;-)
And the first album on vinyl.
And I went to see them a little while ago..:-p
i love chucks vocals, in a way the raspy vocals really define death and it goes perfect with the music
@TehCabbinator
Thanks for those kind words man, I really appreciate it.
@RB8JASON
I don't see why not.
I like old rock too ( stones, golden earing, eagles etc ) I could listen to a song of that and listen to Cannibal Corpse right after it.
As long as you think it's good music, than that's all that matters.
Couldn't agree more with your view on Dutch music, Ed!
Groeten uit Haarlem!
Dude, I love your vids, I've been following you since january or february (2010) and I think that you have one of the most interesting channels (for me) on TH-cam... So, congrats and keep on going :)

Course not...;-)
I just thought "lets explain it a little better"....

It will come up in a video ofcourse

Chuck's vocals are amazing ! Leprosy is the best album of all time :)
@clipsryan
I did make em, see my 'not posters'video.
And see Q&A 3 for your other question.

Well it happens as it happens, I am not going to worry about it.
I mean hey...even Kerry king looks bad ass..:-p
@donSparda
Played the song ridiculously often? ( I did )
Hey Ed, big fan of Amon Amarth here, and Under The Northern star is 1 of my favourites from them. That's not trolling, that just expressing your opinion, which ofcourse is just fine.
;-)
Ed, Would You ever do a Vocal Cover Of "Under the Northern Star"? If So I Would Love To Listen To It, I've Thought Of Doing A cover Of It Myself.
@Deathmetaler97
Hahaha sometimes it's hard to keep a straight face indeed...so you guessed that right...:-p

4:27 Why you didn't use a song from The sound of perseverance if the question was about high pitched vocals?

@Ellinarkkari
Both yeah.
What do you think of the Dutch band Focus?

How often do you speak English, do you talk to your friends in English too?
Best Amon Amarth song: Down the Slopes of Death, and it's from their best album "Versus the World" !

@BDN005
Correct, but still I like the highs of Chuck better.
@ry13eee

@SpacePyjamas
Yeah definitely video material indeed
@sirob1414
Yup
Chuck is still around when you put on the music. I like that.
a +1 for the intro and the humor in the hole video!
hello like many others i want your opinion on a vocals topic : i agree with you that SS screams are nothing special(not girly for me)and i really enjoy Immortal's and Death's high voices but i also like the high vocals from BMTH (count your blessings) and the screamer from "in dying arms" band (deprivation album)...if u have time to hear them tell me what you say
@LifevsMusic
I think I know the best female growler myself personally.
'Som' from Cerebral bore.
She's insane.
And it's bad if you sound girly when you're suppose to be a man, that's all.
@Infidelamsterdam who influenced u to listen to metal?
@robbe239
Well i meant the pop music and such, but heidevolk is also a band I don;t like.
Brutus is a band I do like, although they growl in dutch too.
wow even though i'm not into deathcore anymore the brutality of suicide silence still surprises me. that doesn't mean that normal deathmetal is soft though, anything but
Hey Ed, I've noticed a couple of DBZ dvd's laying around your place in a few videos. Are you into any other anime series?
@Connomb11
Die eerste is geniaal, daar hebben we de beide cd's van maar die andere twee vind ik niks.
@Infidelamsterdam Possibly, Chuck has a habit of forcing my brain to remember, altthough logically i should remember the entire Symbolic or Scream Bloddy Gore albums.
Btw, question for the next Q&A, what is your favorite Death lyric, song and riff? :)
haha I loved the extra video at the end with shreck 2 mug!
Why did u get the mug? Do u like the movie shreck 2?
what is your opinion on goregrind and porno-grind vocals ( Cemetery Rapist) as well as artificial vocals ( Toilet Tantalizer) and Pitch-shifted vocals ( Cock and Ball Torture)?
glad to hear you like Rammstein Ed.
what's your favorite album and song?
Eddie Van Halen is dutch if i remember right.And he influenced many of the 80's thrash guitarists.
haha I loved the extra video at the end with shreck 2 mug!
@spaulding90
Yup.
Hey just wondered when you mean your agaist Downloading does that mean I-tunes aswell? Mean l don't illegally download at all I'm totally against it, but buying off itunes is cheapter and quicker but I do try and buy new CDs from bands I really like.
@Hate666Eternal
Yup!
@lolatmyaccounts
You're welcome...;-)
I actually have a couple of questions.
First one what would be the perfect gift for a metal head? I'm thinking ahead for xmas time and my husband is very much into metal, but I have no idea what to get him. Do you have any suggestions? He's very fond of your coffee mugs.
Also how do you grunt and growl I've tried it many times, but it doesn't come out right. if you can help that'd be nice.
thank you
hmm Chuck uses some high vocals in the album sound of perseverance for example to forgive is to suffer , the flesh and the power it holds , spirit crusher.. check them out! and response if you want with an answer :-)
Just a quick question, what are you views on people who one minute could be listening to Decrepit Birth or Behemoth, then the next minute Pink Floyd, The Who, or even the odd rap artists? I listen to pretty much every type of music but metal is the main one for me
@gubbafisch1
Some classical music can be very good.
HOw many different genres of metal do you like?
Ed, I have a question. Can you show us some books that you have?
