The difference between Bill and Trump: Trump is accused only by people on the other side, mostly people he has never met. The way you know Bill is the real rapist is the fact that he has been accused by friends and allies, not just enemies.

You may say something similar, -"it'll be a rocky time, but democracy will survive". Fast forward to 1946. Yes, democracy survived, but at what cost? Should we not try, with all our lives now to prevent another 1939, if we can see where this is going? Also, aren't we at risk of coming to a "Fahrenheit 451" situation, where there is no way back to a liberal democracy, when all the cultural / political bridges to the past are burned by post-truth demagogues?

Eutryphon survived the Sicilian Expedition and returned to Athens during the reign of Thirties. When he arrived, he found that justice had gone from his city. As a young man, he had been a student of Socrates. Socrates was braved enough to delay the trial of Leon of Salamine. Eutryphon met Socrates after his month as a bouletes and returning to his farm and his family and shared a dilemma. After having been a slave for nine years, Eutryphon was aghast to see his own father kill one of his slaves. Socrates did his usual bit and gave back Eutryphon some hope. Instead of taking his father to trial for killing his slave, Eutryphon joined the the surviving strategoi at the Piraeus and became one of their leaders. Facing the Spartans and the Thirties, he kept his tribe from running at Munychia. Six of the Athenian tribes wan the battle against their fellow citizens and a large force of Spartans. Eutryphon laid dead across from the leader of Thirties (the account is slightly different from that Xenophon in the Hellenica). The leader of the Piraeus Party restored Democracy, but also voted an amnesty of their enemies. I do not think that Trump will win. At best, forty-three percent of Americans will vote for Trump, while Biden despite his condition will win with about forty-eight. Biden has adequate medication that lasts for twelve hours and has done well when he needed to be. Trust democracy and Biden! For the rest, we will see!

Am going to confess to being very irritated at Britons, Europeans, Canadians, Australians, and others who often presume in their on-line posts on social media that they know more and better about Biden, Trump, and my country's politics, especially when they cannot and do not vote here. That's provincialism on my part reacting to provincialism on their parts. That's one of the ways in which democratic decline as you've described over time can and does happen, because once we're squabbling with each other over this, that, and the other, authoritarians can and shall use those divisions to their advantage, and they sure as Hell have. As for Biden going, I don't see that happening, and still support the man. But, if he goes, then I shall still support and vote Democratic in November, because I don't want Trump and the GOP running the country any more than they are on the House, state, and local levels here, and because Trump would be a full-bore authoritarian here, which is where I disagree with your rather anodyne take on him and his potential second presidency here. We can't and don't know precisely what the USA would be like after Trump left the White House, but statements by him and his top supporters, surrogates, and many others, including documents like Project 2025, indicate what they want it to be, and it's not a good one to my mind. I live here, am on government disability and supplement security income, and so, yes, for me, all of this is very personal. I see your point about Trump and company being buffoons compared with guys like Orban, but they are the ones we are facing in the USA now. So, Trump and company must be beaten, but this is, as you pointed out, only one part of a long struggle worldwide, so would agree with you that it ain't going to be easy, quick, or cheap. I think most people at this point are either voting for Trump no matter what or they're voting against Trump no matter what. Accordingly, who or what Trump's opponent is in the race is amazingly not important by historical standards. It will have an impact I think on a TINY portion of the electorate who have seen it all with Trump, might still vote for him, yet might also still be persuaded to vote for Biden. That is not very many people. I think basically somewhat apolitical white housewives in the Georgia, Arizona and Pennsylvania suburbs. The vast majority of demographics have made their mind up about this election before it even starts. Last night's debate gives Biden detractors a lot of ammunition for gasbagging but at the end of the day that's all just preaching to the choir type stuff. In much the same way that no standard of behavior is apparently too low for Trump for him to lose his core supporters; no standard of senility is too much for Biden for Trump to pick up any votes from his existing detractors. The battle lines of this election are 98% already drawn, just a TINY fraction are still mobile and likely to ever change their potential vote. At this point in most social circles it's either a Trump group or an anti-Trump group, not a whole lot in between.

@@ugiswrongCongratulations on being in such a rare and powerful cohort! 😊 I'm honestly curious and would like to respectfully ask you a question or two if you're willing. I perceived Mr. Trump to be an absolute, "to-the-core" pathological liar soon into 2016, and to my eye this became ever more baked into the cake as time passed. Do you consciously not perceive this quality in him, or is it something you're willing to overlook as part of some larger calculation? Second question; the tactic of declaring a narrowly-lost election to be "rigged" and thereby fuel heated push back on the result and whip up lasting distrust in the system has laid there as an un-used option for election losers to resort to all this time -- presumably for reasons of patriotism (Nixon, Gore and Kerry might all have plausibly picked up and used that tool). I was not at all surprised to see Mr. Trump sieze upon it and give it a go in 2020/2021, but now, despite all the investigations and non-evidence, he's still sticking vehemently to that story -- both retrospectively and now prospectively, again. To me, this clenches my sense of him as an absolutely depraved self-serving opportunist, predator even. Again, do you perceive something different in this regard, or is there a conscious reason by which you dismiss such concerns? Thanks.

But in the case of; these are the 2 choices right now, the back and forth on suitability according to; ....insert issue here.... is regurgitating the bleeding obvious, which we can't change right now, and confusing the bigger picture of where we actually are at this point in political crisis.
JB is who he is, he has decades of working for the people.

At the slim chance that this will be read:
At 1:17:00 you ask: You're going to have it better than most generations in history, but you're going to have it worse than the 1-2 generations before you. Can you deal with that?
Yes, i can deal with that.
But my immediate thought was, what i'm already having trouble dealing with is the 1-2 previous generations refusal to accept that
    a) they can't just go on having it as good as they are used to.
    b) the generation after them isn't going to join in that delusion.
I feel there is a revolt going on that, at the danger of being condescending, has the character of a 6 year old throwing a temper tantrum, because they don't want to wear the big winter shoes to the winter excursion. And everyone in the room knows that the child will inevitable throw an even bigger tantrum when it's feet are freezing, but it's simply impossible to get this through to the child, because it's locked into the tunnel vision of "I don't want to wear these shoes!"
And i'm feeling we as a society are collectively doing what so many families do and let the child wear their summer shoes and just accept the inevitable second explosion. Only this time it means we will all get freezing feet, because the tantrum is about anyone wearing winter shoes.
This puts me in a difficult spot, because i am deeply antiauthoritarian and consent oriented. But it gets increasingly hard to dismiss the feeling that self-defense and self-preservation leave me less and less choice than to find a way to say: "Shut your mouth and put on the shoes! I don't care anymore if you cry the whole way." Not that i don't see the huge problem with that, but it's becoming clearer and clearer to me that it's either that or submission to the petulent tantrums of a portion of us and suffering the consequences collectively.
How am i supposed to constructively respond to a political modus operandum that does not know compromise? That does not accept my perspective and experience as noteworthy. That demands we submit to its will or they burn it all down. That only knows attack as a way of interaction.
I **really** don't want to start responding in kind, but right now, the only alternative seems to be self sacrifice for nothing.

Letting go and being anti political by not using your power of voting means that you are kicking the can down the road and your children and grandchildren will have to pay the price for what we’ve done or not done to preserve our democracy. We see that in Russia we see that in China, North Korea as well as many many other countries in the world where the leaders say to themselves, “well the population doesn’t give a toss, so I’ll run things the way I want them to run and they can live with it.” Let’s count how many non democratic society’s in our history have ever worked out in the long run without their country’s descending into chaos and war 🤔

People running around screaming "The Sky Is Falling" makes me shake my head. Trump was already President for four years and he did an "OK" job and I would say the same for Biden. Neither were my favorite by far! The US is split nearly equally 40% with Democrats and 40% Republicans and yes both sides {Live In Their Own Bubble}. As an independent I'm the 20% in the middle and vote both ways, for the best candidate up and down the ballot, as I see it. Voting the party lines, in my opinion, is dangerous. Unfortunately, you can't depend on the news media any longer for information as they're tied to one side or the other. the days of Walter Cronkite are gone! I didn't get to watch your whole video yet. Yes, I understand you are on the left, but you're on target with your thoughts. For those non-Americans unfamiliar with the context of Obama saying, "Four steps back, five steps forward," it's a reference to the Bo Jangles Step Dance, a tapdance performed by a famous Black dancer during the height of the Jim Crow days (Jim Crow laws were basically apartheit laws.) To the White audience, it seemed like a funny dance up stairs where Mr. Bo Jangles keeps going back down when he wants to go up, but for the Black audience it was a coded message of hope, to not let setbacks stop them from working towards civil rights, because no matter how many times they'd get pushed back, each time they'd still be further ahead than before, even if only by a step. If you don't give up, by going three steps forward for every two steps back, eventually you'll reach the top of the stairs.

He stood on stage beside him to translate Graham’s speeches. He made the Korean translation so powerful emotionally, he was starting to leave the role of translator to deliver his own presentation. Billy Graham’s set of beliefs, his style, his position on culture and politics is reflected in how Korea and Vietnam and others live out their faith.
Back in the southern US, Mr Graham’s views not only reflected Christians around him, these views influenced the rest of the US and Canada in his time. This is a foundation on which present day Christianity rests and grew from, including this political base of support for Trump.

The same challenges are theorized to apply to other nations such as Italy and South Korea too, but these are significantly richer countries per-capita with, I hope, more degrees of freedom to explore in fashioning adaptive measures (as Japan has ably demonstrated to the world). This thorny issue also looms large for poor, struggling Ukraine -- hence mass-scale organized stealing of children by Russia as part of their international crime wave.

Is this defeatism predicated on the stupidity of American voters? ... and therefore the stupidity of democracy? I am very interested to see this test of democracy... I mean, if we lose, what really have we lost? I hate everything about this trump phenomenon , so it's hard for me to put this thought out there.

There’s nothing to freak out about 🤦‍♂️ folks are unnecessarily stressing out over something that is not important, one guy kept not answering questions and the other guy answered questions (with the stutter he’s always had since youth) and answered with detail that makes an American realize (by our surroundings in our own towns) that it is truth

This "he didn't answer" take is a HUGE cope being propagated by the media to give the left something to desperately grasp onto, but it's not based on reality. He may not have answered the way YOU wanted, but he did answer, he just used some of his time to follow up on previous questions and Biden's previous responses.

USA is less and less important, EU needs to look out for itself and stop sending money to the US, we need to tax Google/Facebook/Amazon/Microsoft/Apple properly

@@kulman4295 Actually, the USA is more important now for EU than it was 20 years ago because there is a real and active threat in Europe... Russia. Hence why Europeans are so worried about Trump.

How can anyone be so in denial? The election is crucial and Biden has next to no chance of winning after this type of disaster.
