  • You may have noticed more law enforcement officers on the roads this week catching violators of the state's school bus safety laws.
    The Kent County Sheriff's Office released dash and bodycam video catching the violators in action. Drivers were seen ignoring the flashing yellow lights and big red stop sign and blaring by the bus.

    It kills me when people use the excuse they didn't see the bus? Come on, any excuse is better than none right? After paying a huge fine maybe you won't do it again!

    In Ohio it is illegal for children to cross the road when there are four lanes of traffic to board a school bus therefore traffic on the opposite side does not have to stop you would think the laws concerning school buses would be the same across the states . I do have a CDL with a school bus endorsement FYI

    Just make license renewals include new written tests, make sure to put questions about school bus safety rules on it. Weed out the idiots.

    The bus is:
    big
    yellow
    has flashing lights
    has stop sign
    How can you miss it? I mean, how can someone be so bad at driving?

      Yes but obviously you don't know about this thing call perception reaction times. An engineer can fill you in

  • @SchoolBusStop-ArmAudit
    @SchoolBusStop-ArmAudit หลายเดือนก่อน

    Hey! Here is some education for you Sherrif Department. Most of the Videos your School Buses did a "Pop and Stop" not giving the drivers a Perception Reaction time they need (Michigan CDL Manual 2.6.1). Also, it is on the School bus Driver to make sure all vehicles area. safe distance prior to deploying Stop Arm and Red Lights Michigan CDL Manual 10.2.1. The side view of a bus in the rain they cut away from immediately stopped, and deployed arm thus entrapping the driver. Did you know in OHIO you do not have to stop on the approach on a 4 lane road, but you need a divided HWY in other states. Maybe the NTSB should stop trying to push Camera Programs (Im not against the cameras), and Standardized the operating proceedures Nationally! After all Operation Safe Stop is usually Federal Dollars taken by States to pay for officer overtime just to entrap you in this CRAP! Good Luck driving! By the way a Traffic Light Gives you more notice (400 ft) than a School Bus does at 200ft.

      The bus has nothing to do with it. It has to do with how the signals are engaged, and those signals were deployed too rapidly for drive to recognize. Perception, Reaction, and Breaking Distance.

    I got stopped by a cop in Plattsburgh, NY back in June for stopping for a stopped school bus that was on the other, oncoming, side of the road, 5 lanes away. The cop was ABSOLUTELY FURIOUS at me, calling me ALL sorts of derogatory names then he reached IN my car and took my phone from its mount by the window, SLAMMING & tossing it on the roof of my car and then he quite enthusiastically told me he "had me" for at least 3 tickets he could think of - 1 for reckless driving, the 2nd for impeding traffic & 3rd for using my cellphone while driving, which he said knew I wasn't, but in his words: "What the hell. I can see it, so why not!". That's when ANOTHER cop, who I found out was the supervisor, was driving by and stopped too. I REALLY thought I was screwed then because the 1st cop almost immediately went off on a TANGENT, complaining about me with very COLORFUL & UNPROFESSIONAL language and even threw out that BS "fearing for his safety" line and insunuated that he thougt it might've been "a trap" and I "PURPOSELY jammed him up", even though he WASN'T there when I initially stopped AND he was the 4th or 5th car behind me; I had NO clue he was there until the other cars went around me, sped off, and THAT'S when he flipped his lights on. So after he basically BRAGGED, thinking his "brother" was going to give him a high-five for hemming me up, he got a seriously RUDE AWAKENING instead. As the 2nd cop walked up to my car to talk to me, the 1st was still running his mouth so he told him to wait in his car. The supervisor popped his head down and asked WTH happened. I told him about stopping for the bus, which the 1st cop apparently left out, and before I could finish telling him everything he just he scoffed and rolled his eyes in disbelief, as he looked back at the 1st cop. He waved for him to come over and as he approached he had the tickets AT THE READY and a BIG smile on his face, which the supervisor QUICKLY wiped off when he brought up the bus and informed him that he WASN'T going to give me ANY tickets because I was SUPPOSED to stop, as does HE, and he was SUPPOSED to be stopping drivers who FAILED to stop for busses, NOT stop those who stopped! He said he thought that only applied to cars going the same way AS the bus! The supervisor literally 🤦‍♀️ facepalmed himself and made the cop apologize, and told me I could go. I asked for my papers and if I could get my out to get my phone which confused the supervisor, so I told him about it being taken out of the mount, how he slammed/tossed on the roof of my car, and the BS ticket he said was going to give me "just because he could". The supervisor IMMEDIATELY told the 1st cop to VOID the tickets, as he took my papers from him, and ORDERED him to bring them with him back to the station and NOT to leave until he returned. The supervisor thanked me for stopping and apologized on behalf of his department and promised he'd rectify the situation. I was there, in Plattsburgh ahain, again on Halloween and I saw the 1st cop again, but this time he was wearing a green Dollar Tree shirt. Turned out he got FIRED less than a week after our 1st interaction and none of the surrounding departments would touch him. Karma, I guess!💯💯👏👏😂🤣😂🤣😂

    0:38 That car was already past it when the big red stop sign came out, and he was closer than 20 feet when the red lights came on. So no way could he have complied at that point. There are probably legitimate tickets written for this, but these citations were written to fill quotas, not for safety.

    • @jeepthing98
      @jeepthing98 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Wrong. What does a yellow light mean at an intersection? Floor it and try to beat the red? Or prepare to STOP? A stopped bus with flashing yellow means slow to a STOP because the reds are about to come on. Flashing reds means don't pass.

    • @MaxZomboni
      @MaxZomboni 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@jeepthing98 When the YELLOW overhead lights are flashing, be prepared to stop. When the RED overhead lights are flashing, stop at
      least 20 feet from the school bus. He was already beside the bus when the stop sign came out. What would you propose he do, slam on his brakes and then back up down the highway until he is 20 feet from the bus? This is the equivalent of entering an intersection just as the light is turning yellow and exiting just as it is turning red. That would not be illegal.

    • @jamminwrenches860
      @jamminwrenches860 7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@MaxZomboniThe red lights flashing causes the sign to deploy. The lights alone mean stop, the sign is just a fools reminder of what the reds mean. The delay for the sign to deploy can be 2 whole seconds so the car had to have seen reds at about 30-40 ft at his speed. But yeah it was close, let em slide

    • @xechs88

      Most states yellow means stop actually. You can get failure to stop for yellow tickets. Maybe your state it's different but most time people assume yellow means you can still go, thast's the individual arrogance that most people apply as a rule but not law.

    • @MaxZomboni
      @MaxZomboni 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@xechs88 You clearly don't understand how school bus lights work. The yellow lights come on while the bus is still moving. Trying to stop for a moving school bus would be kind of bizarre driving and likely to cause a crash. Again, yellow means be prepared to stop, It does not mean stop. You must stop when the lights turn red and the Stop sign comes out.

      That's Stupid. The issue is that the politicians don't talk to the engineers, or codify the CDL Manual operating code. Think of it like Putting 18 eggs in a 12 egg carton. Perception, Reaction, Breaking Distance, not to mention line of sight. All they have to do is have a conversation with the Department of Transportation, but instead just listen to companies trying to make money off of this scan.

    Maybe don't require kids to jaywalk would be a better solution. Maybe drop them off on the same side of the road as their house is on or have them cross at a crosswalk like pedestrians are supposed to.

    Y’all never think about how unsafe this bus law is, so many rear end collisions can happen this way, somebody can already be going faster than the bus, kids are jaywalking without looking both ways, bus is stopping in the middle of the road, road rage and impatient drivers and people.
    Y’all need to think about both sides there isn’t no “it’s only such n such fault”.

    • @rodrell1075
      @rodrell1075 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That’s what I’m saying, the road rage and impatient drivers are not going to follow the bus law, road rage plus jaywalking kids = danger.
      If the bus just randomly stops in the middle of the road than all of a sudden both lanes (right side of oncoming traffic and left side of oncoming traffic) has to slam on the brakes as hard as they can which usually ends in traffic pile ups or even an rear end collision, everyone doesn’t have the same brakes so it’s not going to end well. Even if they give enough space still like I said EVERYONE DOESNT HAVE THE SAME BRAKES.
      Before you bring up text n drivin that’s just clearly the drivers fault for pulling the stupid.
      Traffic pile ups causes more road rage and impatient drivers, jaywalking kills, and now everyone is at fault for their actions.
      Like I said in the previous comment, there isn’t a “it’s only such n such fault”.

      @@travytrav6650 Foolbag, I literally just explained common sense, let me shorten exactly as I said, don’t stop in the middle of the road and expect both lanes to stop and don’t allow kids to just jaywalk because there are impatient drivers.
      “Y’all need to think about both sides there isn’t no “it’s only such n such fault”.
      I ain’t rationalizing anything, I’m worried about safety. Busses need to stop in safe locations.

      @rodrell1075 following your logic, pedestrians shouldn't ever cross any roads because even the traffic lights are "in the middle of the road".
