I spoke with Emo after a show in Cleveland in 2007-8, Really pleasant, but never left character. Signed a CD I bought at the show: "Thanks for not being Hitler!"
One of my favorite bits is the one where he says his father told him never to open the cellar door, but one day when he was in his teens he couldn't take it any longer and decided to see what was on the other side, so he opened it and saw "...wondrous things...like clouds, the sky, birds..." Or the one where he's going to get married so his mother says he should wear his grandfather's suit, "...so I grabbed the shovel and..."
@tragictravisty Out...I'm pretty sure! He seems to have some quirky habits normally. When I told him how far my friend and I drove to see him, he let his head fall to the side and kind of gaped at me like an ostrich or something. XD I saw him do it when he was talking to other people too.
@Madnursemii - I envy you! I've READ stuff he wrote - and he sounded like a nice guy. But to TALK to him while he's out of character... like I said, I ENVY you!
He is truly a comedic genius but if you watch his stand ups here on YT you can notice that he's repeating 70% of his routine. He tells this 10-15 jokes all the time, from the beginning of the 80s till his more recent shows in the beginning of 2000s. That's pretty strange.. I know you can't have fresh new jokes every time but it should be 10-15% repeating, not the 70%. If he couldn't have make up more jokes in 30 years then he's not such a genius after all.
There is absolutely nothing strange about him "repeating 70% of his routine" (as you put it). It is extremely difficult to write short, original jokes that are funny enough to consistently make audiences laugh out loud, so... when he comes up with a good one, he keeps it in his act. It's really as simple as that. If a musician writes a hit song, doesn't he keep playing that song at his concerts for years to come? It's the same thing. I'd suggest you get over this "genius" nonsense and just appreciate the man's work.
@@AfternoonFocus Every special from Ricky Gervais is completely different. If you can't write a 2 hour repertoire every 2 years than what are we talking about..
its interesting how a musician can bang out the same music decade after decade, and people want it, yet with comics they have to turn out stuff at such a speed.... crazy.

I used to be number 5 on his MySpace profile back on the day. We would exchange messages. He is intelligent, personable and fun. Such a great guy.
Hot mama lol
@@DVD927 It still remains my greatest achievement in life.

Greetings from Wales.

Yay, Emo! I've gotten to chat with him a couple times after his shows...he's really nice. :D
He is never out of character ;)
There really aren't enough Emo videos.
Got to see him in Kansas City about 2002 (?) Really funny and very nice after his set. He signed my girlfriend's CD "To my favorite human lay".
" . . . you got to get up pretty early in the morning, to catch me peekin' in your bedroom window."
he's my favourite comedian by far
'dont get territorial... start peeing on her chair leg.'
hahah, that was brilliant xD
Never heard the necrophilia jokes before. Great stuff

He was married to Judy Tenuta...Tenuda?
@dwaynepipe59 If ever you get the chance to go see him perform, he's always happy to say hi afterwards!
emo is a genius. does he still perform?
Why his every video 6:19
"people come up to me and say, Emo do people really come up to you??" LOL, what happened to that joke?

@Dovemagician Lucky you! I really respect his stuff so much.

You’ve been a lot of fun but, I still have another hour….
Lmao
THIS GUY IS OBSESSED WITH HIS HAIR!!!! whats going on with that?
It's part of his schtick.
If that's the part of his act that seems bizarre to you, then I guess you don't really "get" him.
PURE GENIUS!!! ABSOLUTELY HILARIOUS!!! I would LOVE to sit and shoot the bull with him!!!
@Madnursemii I've never been so jellous :(
I didn't get the telescope joke? He's absolutely hilarious though.
He's spying on her.
Stalking!
Shannon!
He's watching her as he's calling
He was watching her house from afar.
@Dovemagician You lucky man :)
emo emo
Funny but he never really came up with new material for 30 years.
Have you seen his recent stuff?
I like Emo but he does the same jokes all the time.

Better to listen to him on album. Watching him ? Sorta cringey
