  • OC - Brick Township - 278 Mantoloking Rd. - Two-Alarm Structure Fire - Commercial Fire -
Around 7:00 AM 12/13/22 Brick got a call for a smoke scare with possible flames at 278 Mantoloking Rd. Stations 21 & 22 were handling another call at the time a gas leak with evacs, so manpower was mostly tied up. I was first to get on scene and since I only herd of a smoke scare I was unaware if there was any fire or a small or large fire inside, so I aksed the guy standing there as I do carry a can in my car. He said smoke yeah opened his door and smoke started to come out, quickly told him to close the door. 2120 then got on scene confirmed the working fire and aksed for the Second Alarm to be transmitted. From there you see in the video, the cause of the fire is unknown ATT, or I do not have that info if I can get it I will share it with yall.

Got to love the comments: Last structure fire most complained about so many people. Now it is not enough. You all cry for paid, but do not want to pay for higher taxes, and besides almost every paid department runs ems calls to justify their paid department.

You know what, for short staffed full volley, this crew did a pretty solid job. 1 engine with 2 guys getting the K/D? Pretty impressive, even if it is a small fire.

1000 percent agree! This response was impressive in several ways. An early alarm, and well trained crew / incident commander, an an impressive response time! This crew had everything in their favor minus the short staffed 2 man engine first due. All said and done this crew deserves recognition for an overall incredible performance! WELL DONE 22

good work with a tight crew. This was the second call, units were on site for a gas leak in a occupied apartment complex just prior to this being dispatched, also the reason for the early call for additional resources as the first due truck and engine were already committed.

Great video! Monday morning quarterbacking put aside I think It was a heck of a good job, sometimes in a small community you pretty much just have to deal with what you have for a crew. With folks working during the day that can put a big hole in a departments staffing during the day. Where I live departments have to rely on mutual aid a lot to get the job done.

This is the Best Fire response I have ever seen on youtube. Firefighters arriving before the apparatus did the best thing they could have confirmed a working fire and left the openings shut. I have a few questions I'm gonna ask after watching this video that I'm confused with
Why was the guy that was wearing the florescent hoody moving the hose around not wearing any turnout gear?? VERY unsafe
Why was the guy who was video taping this not asked to move across the street once the chief confirmed a working fire and called a 2nd alarm? Had there been an explosion or structural collapse this could've been a nightmare scenario.
How was a single firefighter allowed to enter a structure fire alone with a hose line with the 2nd engine arriving moments before he went inside. Had that building collapsed or flashed over or godforbid he had to put out a mayday he would've been screwed.
How come when the chief was walking around the exterior of the building he was not wearing any turnout gear?
I'm in no way shape or form criticizing these firefighters but you can definitely tell these are volunteers

A couple other comments clear this up but here ya go. There was a another active call going on gas leak with Evac so everyone else tied up with that. This came in as a smoke scare I was first on scene, that wasn’t the Chief 2120 he was on the local garbage truck and in the area so responded directly to the scene they are both active members who came off the trash truck. As for me filming I felt I was in a safe distance & with the owners of property. At anytime if someone asks me to move I do right away. Yes anything coulda happened but I’m ready for that. I’m also wearing a fireproof jacket on scenes. Due to the active fire and short staffed I think they thought it was best to knock it before it spread, I think that was the right call with only being a reported small fire at the time from the owners. I can’t speak for the company just what I saw on scene the fire was contained & out very quickly & saved the building by there fast actions.
