I hate doing multi point inspections. I get that it is insurance for the shop. It's always good to have proof of something that needs work or pre existing damage. What sucks however are multi points on cars that are wore out. The last shop I worked at issued all the techs a tablet, and every car that came through the door gets a multi point. We were required to take so many pictures, then list descriptions of all items, both good or bad. They wanted it done in twenty minutes, which is fine on a car that's taken care of. On a wreck though, not so much. We also had to make a parts and labor estimate of everything on our multi point. So you end up spending well over an hour doing a multi point and making an estimate for the car, all for free. At $165 an hour, it doesn't take long to have an estimate higher than the cars value, and completely turn the customer away from doing any of the work, even what they brought it in for. The hypocrit shop owner tells you they want to know everything that the car needs, but then they tell you you're being too thorough. So essentially they only want you to list the quick money makers on the multi point. Sounds to me like greed is the shops number one priority, and not the best interest of the customer. I'm sick of our industry.

This is why I prefer hourly over flatrate, doesn't matter if the customer doesn't buy something I get paid.

Our shop uses the text to drive app customers get videos made by techs of the work required and completed. It's all recorded and reassuring for the customers

Customer is getting a full inspection regardless of what they ask for. To cover my back. The front end doesn’t have to show the customer the inspection if they didn’t want it.

Hey Justin..so I'm a mobile mechanic business. What's the best way to ensure I get paid from my customers?
If a customer supplied the parts and they get the wrong part or whatever we still need to get paid in that situation as our time fuel etc is valuable. So do we charge a deposit or whats the best way to not get ripped off?
