      @Alex Amaya his defense might not be as good but his takedown ability is better than khabibs because of fedors versatility. Khabibs uses his superior physique and always shoots in for a double leg whereas fedor has many more tactics as seen in the video.

    Fedor is a master of finding slack in the midst of chaos. I love him and everything he brings. I noticed when he winds up somewhere he is just plain intuitive he can make outside forces have no option but to go around. Focusing on weight distribution is just a tiny intro. The dude is an immovable object on command and an unstoppable force on command. Thanks fedor!

    He was soooo good in his prime... And he was in his prime for a DECADE. Yes, judo, it's pretty evident in hip throws, foot sweeps etc... And combat sambo, COMBAT sambo, back then... A very serious deal. You got Tough.
    Even his recent fights, you can see the class of the man. He's no longer the insane pressure machine, as he can't be- the man is a senior citizen in context of proffesional sports. But, now, his distance management is perfect, his anticipation is spot on, he is now a counter striker. And he still packs a black out in his hands.
    Truly, one of all time greats.

  • @MVProfits
    @MVProfits 2 ปีที่แล้ว +13

    Even when he misses the takedowns and trips, he is not in a bad position, and can often break with a strike. Plus he closes the distance using powerful looping overhead rights to #1 score damage if possible #2 clinch for grappling otherwise. He was so explosive. Only pure double leg takedowns by wrestlers seem to work on him, but then he subbed all who he did this to him.

    Great breakdown as always! Fedor has to be one of the greatest all around fighters of all time. One part of his game that is very underestimated was his submission game. I bet he has one of the best submission percentages of all time because it seems like anytime he went for one it was a done deal...especially his arm bars.

    Great analysis of how Fedor executed his clinches! Fundamental judo techniques and concepts that Fedor would probably describe with Japanese nomenclature: Ko-uchi gari (minor outside reap), rather than outside trip; there are many different outside trips, reaps, sweeps, etc. O-uchi-gari (major inside reap), rather than inside trip; there are many different forms of inside trips, reaps, and sweeps. Most importantly, KUZUSHI (breaking balance). He had to have learned these as a child in Judo and Sambo, as they are beginner/fundamental techniques. Love your videos!

The music I used in these earlier videos seemed to cause people to either love it or hate it :) But I much prefer it over the stock standard nu-metal that became the de facto soundtrack of choice for MMA videos. The songs I used here are all actually from Russian bands too so it makes sense for a video with Fedor :)

    His upper body off-balancing and throws were especially important given that knees to the head of a downed opponent were legal in Pride. If you shot a double leg and your opponent sprawled, you'd be vulnerable to a barrage of knees to the back of the head followed by soccer kicks - which is how Wanderlei Silva and Shogun Rua won many of their fights.

    I did a seminar with fedor he says you dont even have to get your leg around and hook for the takedown...he said just load the weight on that leg and twist with with your body.

      When you are as big as Fedor I can see why you might not need to hook haha

    Fedor was a great grappler even though he was more a kind of striker he used his judo ,( Sambo) perfectly without taking high risks. But I think he could have incorporate bjj to even more dangerous but he didn't respect it given that he was crushing bjj black belts until werdum.

    When Fedor was still Fedor and not a shadow of himself. Simply the best heavyweight ever.

    please do a a comprehensive video on Theodore striking skills there is a few things that you did not touch on but I love your perspectives on his grappling skills fade or is the goat there has never been a heavyweight number one pound-for-pound fighter ever other than fador unless I'm mistaken and the way I think about it is if you are a heavy weight you will beat the shit out of any one under your weight category fedor is and we'll stay the number one fighter that ever lived until someone else does what he did
