Hi Julie, great question! We haven't tried it, but you might be able to carve out the shapes once it's dry. The cuts probably won't be as clean as when you carve out the shapes beforehand, but we'd suggest experimenting and giving it a go :)
Hi. Do you know if you can use air dry clay applications like this with actual candles? I've not been able to find a heat safe selant for it. Especially not one with a matte finish. Do you know if this is possible?
Hi there, our Air Hardening Modelling Clay shouldn’t be in contact with an open flame or sustained heat. Melted wax can be very hot and may damage the clay. Melted wax may be difficult to remove as the clay is porous. However, it may be used with a tea light candle if it is sufficiently spaced away from the sides of the candle holder. Preferably, the tea light is separated by placing it into a heat-resistant container inside the clay holder. Also make sure to never leave candles unattended. There are loads of LED tealights that might be a safer option. Regarding the varnish, we don’t currently sell a heat-resistant varnish. Hope this helps! 😊
Hi there, we wouldn't recommend it because modelling clay won't harden and also doesn't cope well with heat (it will melt). Good luck with your project :)
Hi Moira, there wasn't any paint used in this particular project ;) You can find the materials list here: www.montmarte.net/mont-marte-tv/view/how-to-make-an-air-dry-clay-lantern
Hi Nico, thanks! Sorry for the delay getting back to you on this one. That's a great question - you could try sprinkling cornflour on the petroleum jelly and wiping it off with a dry paper towel. This should remove most of it so that the surface is ready to paint :) A fine grade sandpaper can also be used to gently smooth out the surface if you feel like it needs some extra work.
Hi there, we used an LED tealight for this tutorial, so that would be a good option if you're concerned about using a real candle :) We don't recommend a real candle because air dry clay contains paper pulp.
Hi Rifqi, great question! Some of the oil might soak into the clay and could potentially effect the drying time and cause some staining. So for this reason, we'd recommend using Vaseline instead :)
Hi there, if your clay has completely dried up there isn't much you can do to save it. If your clay is only a little bit dry you can try adding water to moisten it up. Hope this helps 😊
Hi there, air drying clay is not waterproof once it dries, but you can make it waterproof by ‘sealing’ it. You can do this using a coat of either acrylic gloss medium or a mix of equal parts PVA glue and water. Below are the steps we use to seal air dry clay sculptures: 1. Use a paint brush to cover the entire sculpture with acrylic gloss medium or a mix of PVA glue and water 2. Let this dry, and then give your work a coat of grey acrylic paint (we recommend using acrylic paints because they help seal air drying clay to protect it from moisture) 3. After the grey coat has dried, give it two coats of the final colours We hope this helps!
Love your project, but why wouldn't you just use clay cutters (or small cookie cutters)? I certainly wouldn't get as nice a result freehand cutting like your artist did.
Hi Rose, for this project we used a hobby knife because the pattern we were working with was quite small. You can use a cookie cutter for larger patterns, but the edges might need some tidying up if you're using air hardening clay :)
You might need to experiment a little bit because we haven't used that recipe to create lanterns before (so we can't guarantee it would work well). Give it a go and see what happens :) Good luck!
Hi there, our only advice would be to let it dry and see if you can gently prize it free... Otherwise, you'll probably need to break it and try again with some Vaseline (make sure you coat the bottle to make it easier to slide your lantern free). We know that's probably not what you wanted to hear, but we hope it helps!
What a brilliant idea! Looking forward to purchasing some clay and attempting this fun project! Thank you for sharing your video!
Never made anything with clay but you made it look easy. Very motivating to give it a go i
We hope you have fun with it!
I love your arts and crafts.
Thank you for sharing, these are beautiful I will try one tonight, so kind to share ideas x
So motivating!!! Will give it a try 👍🏽☺️

Glad you enjoyed it, Erica! Good luck with your project!
@@MontMarteArt thanks
It's so great.I'll try it.
This is awesome! Thanks for sharing. Question: wouldn't it melt with the lamp heat?
Hi Roger, air hardening clay isn't effected by heat so it won't melt if it's put near a candle :)
Great tutorial, thank you
Love it, will be trying this
just curious but if i put a candle inside would it be combustible? I'm thinking of making one for my mom but I dont want it to be a fire hazard.
Voila It's Beautiful 👌🏻
❤️ it

Wow ty so much for the vid! So awesome!
Thanks for this to the point, great video. New to this hobby. Was wondering can I carve design with dremel when dry?

Very good quality videos 👍

You can also make triangular shape ,it will be easy to cut
Lovely Thank you 😊
Glad you like it! Happy creating 🎨🙌
Simple but impressive :)
What about the flammability???
👍 👍 👍 it’s amazing!!
hi! thank you for the video, is it possible to use modelling clay instead of air dry clay?
No modelling clay has oil in it. It will not harden up
Hi there, we wouldn't recommend it because modelling clay won't harden and also doesn't cope well with heat (it will melt). Good luck with your project :)
Very very nice!!!
Neat! Thank you.
What sort of paint did you use?

@@MontMarteArt Thank you for replying. If you were to use paint, is acrylic safe for a lantern with a real candle?
When I grow up from being a pottery noobie I want to be just like you >^.^
thank you so much!!!
Excellent
Awesome 😍👍
Love your skill and work. how do you remove petroleum jelly after for painting?

Looks great... I like that style I have done some projects like that ... you can watch on my channel maybe you like them....
Wow i saw your channel! You are doing a great job!!!!
I’ve tried this and cannot remove the bottle from the clay, any tips?
Hi Jo, did you give the bottle a coat of Vaseline before you moulded the clay around it?
Hey can we still add that little candle if the clay is homemade.... Would love ur help...
Hi there, we used an LED tealight for this tutorial, so that would be a good option if you're concerned about using a real candle :) We don't recommend a real candle because air dry clay contains paper pulp.
Can i change a vaseline with oils to coat the bottle?

can we use jovi air dry clay for this?
Hi, I've a question. Is it as easy as it seems to "repair" the hole with wet clay? I mean, is it going to stick well or should I use some glue?
Hi Bianca, since the clay is wet it should stick well and fill in any cracks :)
Very nice 👌👌
Can I paint the lantern with acrylic paint or is that flammable if i put a candle inside?
Hi Julia, great question! Yes, you can paint these lanterns with acrylic paint :)

I saw if you put Saran wrap over clay first then use cutter it helps with the edges (looks smoother).
Is it okay if i put a candle inside the lantern?
Hi Adinda, we'd suggest only using tea lights or LED candles for this lantern :)

Is it possible to do with paper mache?
Hi Gigi, thanks for your question! Paper mache should work for this project :)
Can i use cold porcelain?
Hi there, yes you can, but you'll need to fire it :)
I have homemade cold porcelain made with cornstarch and glue.
You might need to experiment a little bit because we haven't used that recipe to create lanterns before (so we can't guarantee it would work well). Give it a go and see what happens :) Good luck!
@@MontMarteArt she mean air dried home made clay. 😃
Very nice

I wonder if you can put that clay underwater for fish tank decorations?
Hi there, great question. We wouldn't recommend air drying clay for fish tanks because it may degrade in the water over time. Hope this helps!
Sous-titres Français svp merci
But my clay dry easy
Hi Tayf, do you mean that it's drying too quickly?
