    Great video!! I like how LAFD 17's beat Vernon into their own district and had the ladder up in no time. Nice job guys

    What this video doesn't show are the tremendous balls that the fire fighters have.

    Farewell Vernon FD.

    Great shots of the line connections… Seems a bit strange how the engineer was hooking up the various hoses. He changed his mind halfway through the process. Looked like he wanted to boost the hydrant pressure to feed a ladder down the street.
    Why does LAFD have reversed threads on hydrant connections? Counter clockwise to tighten the connections??? And you are right about running over the 5" LDH. At least they slowed way down. Sometimes the hydrants aren't on the same side as the fire so you have little choice. I bet the driver would have to pay for damaged hose though!

      @richardolsen2798 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The splitter, or gated siamese, on the hydrant has a female connection. The female end of the hose was connected to the intake, or suction, on the bumper which had male threads. When seen from the hose side at the hydrant, the fitting on the siamese turns counter clockwise onto the right hand male hose coupling. It's a lot nicer when the couplings are 5 inch Storz.

      I'll take up the hose thread question separately. Quite often with large fires it is some time after the first in units have laid in and are in operation before mutual aid units arrive. A disruption in the water supply could very easily place some units in danger when the fire is not yet under control. Thus, it is often necessary to drive over lines. Generally, running over charged lines at low speeds causes no harm. The hoses, under pressure, do not completely flatten and the effect on water flow is of very short duration with each wheel passage. Running over uncharged lines with heavy vehicles, like engines or ladder trucks, will generally ruin the hose as it creases the neoprene inner liner causing either partial or complete splits on the outside of the crease. Since breaking an uncharged line disturbs nothing, over running them is not justified.

    How on the hell did this one start and how did it reach inferno stage so fast looks like some kind of chemical was involved somehow

    LAFD 17 and 14 don’t have light forces anymore, so much has changed!

    @victor delgadillo to increase hydrant pressure to the engine (s) tied into that 4-way valve

  • @Mc007-
    @Mc007- 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    LA City is very aggressive in how they firefight those truck companies went right into to exposers through them ladders up and begin fighting the fire.

  • @Victor_Delgadillo
    @Victor_Delgadillo 11 ปีที่แล้ว

    What was the purpose of the last truck to pull up and hook up all those hoses??

    • @iamnotamushroom2880
      @iamnotamushroom2880 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Victor Delgadillo to supply pressure. Over long distances hydrants do not provide enough to supply the demand for water. An engine will. Especially with that amount needed.

    The engineer did pump water to the truck..he switched sides so he didn't block the street leaving access for other units responding...

    You're right, they should have stopped flowing water or waited for all trucks to arrive... Oh wait.... TH-cam is a bunch of armchair quarterbacks.

      +MIKECNW Perhaps take another look. At 3:10 there's a clear shot of Vernon Fire Department Tower ladder and the engine that preceded that into the shot was also Vernon.

    i agree, they should have cut off the water supply, disengaged the lines from the hydrants, moved all the lines, let the ladder pass, then re-hook up the supply lines and re-establish the water supply , but of course you being a youtube bad ass it would be more easy just to beat him as u say, within an inch of his life cause omg he drove over a line

    What has gone wrong with our fire departments lately? They take so long to arrive, they take so long to connect to water supplies, they run around not knowing what is expected of them and meantime THE FIRE IS OUT OF CONTROL!

    • @fred_____5557
      @fred_____5557 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Mike Gross you have no idea what is actually going on do you. You’re getting worked up over nothing. Those firemen were doing what they are trained to do, LA City at least not sure about Vernon and their chiefs. Ladders are going up, saws for the big fences are running, hose is being pulled and you’re only getting a small glimpse of 2 sides. There are many other angles with fireman doing what they love. Btw this was years ago, times have changed and so have the tactics and technology in the fire service.

    the 1 idiot drove over the supply line causing it spring a leak real smart I think they need retraining

    • @0524cami
      @0524cami 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      They do it all the time...it didn't bust a leak. The hose was leaking at the connection spot which is quite common.
