As always, a great review Sam! I have the same model without sound, and it is a flawless runner, probably one of the best railroad tender engines. With regards to the livery, it is correct for the introduction of the class, but by 1950 they began repainting them into either BR blue or green

I remember I was on holiday in the lake display and we cought the train to Carlile and we saw 2 black 5 locomotives and then we were heading back to our caravan and on the motorway there was a railway line next to the motorway and we saw a load of steam and we thought it was a house on fire bu it turns out it was tornado steaming up and making a lot of steam and that was a coincidence

14:50 it can run slower than that. Mine is run by a Hornby elite controller and I have coded it to accelerate slowly (100 steps) and it runs perfectly slow even over points. It runs so slow that the noise can’t go that slow so the noise jumps a bit. But I would never run it THAT slow on my layout!

Everyone needs at least one sound locomotive. Mine is the New tooling bachmann Jupiter. My favorite locomotive. The tornado is a nice looking engine! Only gripe with it is the boiler handrail. All locos ought to have that one handrail seperate, budget or not.

Again, a very nice clean and professional video! I love the sounds in that locomotive even though it is limited in size. (Note: I run Lionel O gauge trains.) Me being in the U.S. I am a bigger fan of our type of steam locomotives but I have always admired y'all's three-cylindered 4-6-2's. The only thing I wish our country will do is to start building locomotives that were lost to the cutting torch. Oh well, I can only dream. Thanks again Sam and have a nice day!

I prefer the blue liveried version for the colour, but the TTS sound was much better quality than we have seen before with Hornby. Perhaps they will now provide higher quality TTS sound on all new models. I particularly liked the “chime” horn, sounded great.

Many new models and Hornby have programmed their DCC chips well with what you would think be a cheaper motor. and true, And from what I could tell on a few others geared them just right with the driving wheels.
So lucky they have a real example to record and do the sounds

I bought mine about a year ago and i was amazed how good it was, specially about performance. So nice to see that you think the same about it. I think it is the best railroad loco of Hornby. What do you think? Or do you know an even better one. And it keeps funny how much you like soms Heljan loco's.

as to which model the choice is fairly simple if you run dcc then the tts loco doesn't require any thinking about, but if you run dc then the one with out the chip is the one for you. For those who run both I would go for the tts loco and turn the sound off when some peace and quiet is required. Thanks for another brill review

I bought the original railways range Tornado, limited edition R3070 in BR Apple Green. She runs well despite the lack of tender pickups, but twice I've tried to fit TTS to her and twice the chip has blown, so she's plain DCC now. The tender pin isn't quite long enough so sometimes comes loose. The detail is fantastic, but the buffers are plastic on mine, and it was involved in a few derailments on my old layout so 2 of the 4 are cracked. Cost me £70ish plus the chip.
Gotta love the colour of that BR Express Passenger Blue one though.

I have got the TTS Flying Scotsman. My only criticism of the sound is that it that the volume does not change as the train pulls away. It just goes chuff chuff chuff in a rather toy-like way. It probably needs to have an option for 'close' and 'distant'. Thanks for uploading.

Already got Tornado. It’s a railroad version but in an enhanced special edition version of that livery so has better lining including the wheels and other symbols such as the overhead electricity warnings etc and even etched name plates included. Cab is still not painted but I can do that, wonder if that tender chassis could be bought separate so I could add tender pick ups though it runs fine without.

Hi Sam,, I am sure you know by now how much I enjoy your videos, and look forward to each new one as they come out. This is in no way a criticism, but I would so much have preferred to see Gadwall (LNER pre-war, with valances) with a train of contemporary teak effect teak carriages, and the very smart BR blue Tornado with the crimson and cream BR teak coaches. I know Tornado is a replica and never existed in those days, but the rather short-lived (I think) blue livery goes so well with the "blood and custard" coaches. All best wishes - keep up the good work. Peter T.
