- Residents and tourists have been told to prepare for extreme weather conditions as parts of the Mediterranean experience a severe heatwave.
Greece and neighbouring countries are expecting to experience record temperatures.
It comes as the body of an American tourist has reportedly been found on the Greek island of Mathraki, adding to the list of foreigners missing or reported to have died during the record-setting heatwave.
A Dutchman also was found dead on Samos over the weekend, following the recent death of British TV presenter Dr Michael Mosley on the island of Symi.
Adding to the list, two hikers were found dead on 5 June on Crete. Another American, Albert Calibet, is among at least three others reported missing.

Climate change is the reason that an act of arson caused wild fires got out of hand the way it did. Climate change of course can't be the sole cause of a fire- something has to trigger it. Climate change makes extreme weather events more likely which is undeniably what is happening.

Greek here living my whole life in Athens and traveling around all the country. Not a single day was a record breaker this summer so far. The only concerning fact was that the heat came too early even for Greek standards. For years we had rain and 25-27°C at its best at this time of year... On the other hand Iberian peninsula is remarkably cold. People from areas that are not affected by these temperatures must be better prepared and shouldn't overestimate themselves. I lived in Greece for many years. What is happening now isn’t unusual. Ignore the hype. What IS necessary is the clearing of ground around houses to avoid wild fires destroying your home, but most sensible citizens do that anyway and the Greek government have just imposed new regulations requiring that to be done and to be registered. Most wild fires are started deliberately anyway as a method of ground clearing for more building. Profit.
That's right! For many years the fires are started deliberately. Some years ago a Greek newspaper published an article in which the PM for a neighbouring country admitted that they started the fires. The most damaging fires are arsons for various reasons!
Heat rising from the beach well I never.
Where I live in Australia, temperatures over 40 are quite normal in summer; you just take care
I have a few friends holidaying in Greece at present. They're having a wonderful time in the sun, swimming, and walking. Since when do people just randomly die because of heat
Who has randomly died of the heat?
Thousands die each year from extreme heat. The elderly and very young are most at risk. Heatstroke is extremely dangerous. When I travelled to Rome in June 2003 there was a heatwave across Europe resulting in temperatures usually not seen until August.
As a fair skinned Scot I was completely unprepared for 40 degree heat. I had gone exploring, took a wrong turn and ran out of water. I began shivering which is often the first symptom of heatstroke. Fortunately I reached a busy park with a van selling water just in time. I sat under a tree and lost consciousness for a while. I was lucky, could so easily have had a different outcome. I was 32 at the time.

The climate has always been changing
The rate of change is what matters. It hasn't changed this fast in hundreds of thousands of years. We're doing it with our carbon dioxide emissions. To just shrug your shoulders and say that the climate has always been changing is missing the point. We are causing an environmental catastrophe.

There's no scientific controversy in climate science.
