You're not paying for hardware, hardware costs around 150-400$, you're paying for the research&development, software development and support. Cheaper phones are cheaper because they leverage existing tech from already-developed features. Also profit margins to sustain future development and paying the top brass thicc bonuses.
Here's the problem...there are already at least 10 Android phones with the same specs that use the same Snapdragon chip. The market is flooded with phones that all look the same, have the same specs, and the same $1,000 price point. As a result it's hard to get exited about these phones and they all seem overpriced especially in our current economy
@@lamar310 Its so difficult to compete with brands like xiaomi, Huawei. I think we're gonna completely loose a lot of the ''legacy'' brands like Motorola, LG and others in future years. They need to start thinking of new products. HTC has been smart to invest in VR, they need to take risks and do the same, paying millions to make smartphones that they are going to sell only 10k units is a waste of effort.
I had to double check the date on this video.... are people really still excited about rounded edge displays? This was a gimmick like five years ago and now everyone prefers less rounded edge screens to avoid accidental touch input... why is this a big selling point for this phone lol
"The feature is no longer exciting or enticing because it's not new anymore" You're not quite "new" yourself anymore, yet I can only hope people still find some interest in you. It's the exact same thing in smartphones : why do you think a lot of people still care about the 3.5mm jack ? "Edge displays" follow thz same model and are still nice imho, even if I prefer those curved only up to a 45° angle, not the full 90° Motorola is including in the Edge (+)
I liked the two Motorola phones I've owned in the past years. They were solid performing devices. To see that they haven't stopped making mobile devices is heart warming for me. Hopefully this phone doesn't only stay a Verizon exclusive. :(
It’s look like Samsung s6 edge and if Motorola succeed it shows a bright future for it. The S6 was the phone that took Samsung from a cheap phone maker to a premium feature rich manufacture that took apple for its money. If Motorola succeed it will make a big hole in Marcet share for Samsung and apple
And watch it where? The most consumers, the high end consumers, just have a 4K TV. I hate to admit it, but it's just a gimmick to make us shell out 1000 dollars for the same hardware.
I find edge displays worthless. They were so cool in 2014/2015, but the reality is that it's not useful, rather a nuisance holding it because of accidental taps. Beautiful curves. Annoying accidental taps. But it's pretty! 😍
not just worthless but extremely stupid. It's per definition bad design. It puts looks over functionality. Edge displays have tons of issues and not a single reason to exist. Heck it doesn't even look good.
@alphanash Same here, but am a little hesitant due to it being in Candy bar format (21.9) aka carpal tunnel alert. I got big hands. Ain't nobody got time dat. SMH.
Sounds impressive for the price compared other flagship phones. Although the wired charging of 15watts out of box seems a cumbersome and I'm not sure if it supports qc 4.0 since it has snapdragon 865. I already got my V60, and I think the timing got me good, but hey I'm not salty. I still think the newest flagship this year is quite overpriced. Here in Canada, they're ranging from $1900-$2000 that's $500 -$600 more unlocked! Motorola and LG pricing sounds like a deal for me. Great content!
It's sad, I was really excited about this phone, but I don't do carrier phones. I'm definitely not going to settle for the not so great version later this year. There are too many choices out there to wait for let downs.
Motorola had the nicest backing material. I just don't understand the glass backing. So many people complain about the finger prints and to me it's just to gaudy! Why is this continually being made??! Oh, and for notification please use Motorola M logo on the back as a light indicator, not just a logo that doesn't do anything.
I'm pretty much done with Motorola as a company, no matter how good their smartphones are I can't stand they're Verizon exclusivity and I believe it's a bad business decision not to make their flagship smartphones available to the other carriers in the United States and North America. Do Motorola even consider how big Samsung would be if they were exclusive to only one carrier? Cause for a comeback? I don't think so. Not with their Verizon exclusivity.
I was a bit hesitant at first, but I've been using a 21:9 phone now for a while and it's really comfortable to hold. It's just as tall as my Nexus 6P used to be, only less wide and much more comfortable to hold
The S20 line starts at $999 but the Edge+ is more comparable to the S20+ or even the S20 Ultra in the battery compartment which is even more expensive so it's well priced
Well said...and I agree 💯👍👍... compared to s20+ this is the best choice having headphone jack and loved the curved display with added motorola features to disable it or use side curved screen... waiting for it on Amazon, so that price gets low...the best flagship of motorola after long time.
that charging speed is kind of bummer, i'm guessing it could take around 2 hrs like iphone or even more, isn't 15w a bit too less for topping up a 5000mAh batter?
Let's see if LG now has a true contender in HIFI audio game after years of being alone in this dept. I can see that Motorola also partnered with audio company to tune their own flagship smartphone. Well, let's see.
I loved my Moto X Pure Edition! Honestly, if the screen hadn't cracked, I'd probably still be using it today (🤔 maybe...). When it did crack, I was hoping Moto would come out with a refreshed version but instead made the Z line. I was not interested...
I'm still using my pure edition.. still the best android experience than oxygen OS. But my primary phone is OPPO Reno 10X zoom. But I always end up using my moto most of the time.
Moto won't sale much for the main reason it's on Verizon ...In the new 2020 days moving forward, Verizon does not have it's Monopoly in the service realm as a it once did!!! I clearly would not come to Verizon just to buy a moto edge...so ur saying no unlocked variant is available?
I think it’s cool to see all these new phones, but when it comes to Android, it really feels more and more these days, that Samsung, and maybe One Plus are the only real players. I don’t think this will sell well.
I do not know which one is Samsung which one is Huawei and which one is Motorola now. Plus Mi, Xiaomi, Vivo, Oppo and many other. Only iPhone and XPERIA never follow in terms of design, I wish they don't follow too. Only these 2 brand has their own distinctive design
I think Motorola should have gone for "flagship phone but without gimmicks o it costs 200$ less" phone now that oneplus left this market wide open. To sell a flagship, you need a standout feature or the name of a galaxy or iphone so I cannot feel optimistic about this.
For $1000, If my phone would just be mistaken, by normal people, for a “Samsung Rip-off” by a random Chinese manufacturer. I’d rather get a Samsung device. This design ain’t doing any good to Motorola, unless of course they’ll sell this for a much lower price.
Copy and paste nothing new here samsung already done this design. @motorola next time bring something new and interesting like under screen camera something that most of us want.
What’s with the punch hole cameras, camera notches, and bezel less displays. Use thin bezels, at least at the top and bottom and give front facing speakers for decent media experience. These companies unnecessarily flexing technology prowess, that is if one would like to even consider these as prowess.
Apple: we have A13 Bionic
Motorola: we have the headphone jack

how about fingerprint? battery size? wireless charging? IP rating?
Under-glass fingerprint reader, 5,000mAh battery, yes, IP68. (Engadget has a written article that covers more than the video)
All good questions and we'll have to look for them ourselves. Wait isn't that what reviews are for?

Love the symmetrical top & bottom bezel, the edge display is unnecessary tho.
Dude they're not even symmetrical. Not at all. You don't even have to look closely to see that...

What is the UI Motorola is using?

Ask them about the Android updates? Are they gonna give us atleast 2 updates this time or just one.
So it doesn't lay flat on a table with the camera bump? Can a cover be put onto it? Waterproof or not?
When did you shoot the video? You said months ago, should this have been announced back during MWC

almost all of the new flagships that are coming out this year has some Samsung circa 2016 screens. lol
