    I live in Philly. Something to consider as you film, as you pass intersections, show the street signs, so viewers can landmark where you are, if they want to revisit the places you showed.

    Philly is a cool town with a lot of character and history. it can be a bit rough around the edges, but it's got grit and authenticity. One of the only major cities left in America that is walkable, historic and still somewhat affordable(at least compared to Boston, NYC, DC, SF).

DC. if you feel the need to get away. Philly has great restaurants, many of which are ethnic. The art and history museums are fantastic. It is also a City of great Architecture which ranges from 18th century through modern. Another thing I love about Philly, is that William Penn referred to it as "a green country town", and as a result, the City was designed from the beginning with parks large and small incorporated into its' urban design. It is a very pleasant walking and biking City and a very good place to visit and live.

      But being an east coast city, it was settled and expanded before the rise of the automobile, so the cities are more compact and walkable on east coast compared to the rest of the nation. East Coast cities always interested me. It's such a different way of life than the rest of America.

    Also, William Penn was from England, so when he planned out the city he definitely used his European influences. Case in point, Broad street was intentialy built wide like that just in case if a fire broke out, it wouldn't skip to other parts of the city too fast, this was something a lot of European cities would do.

    • @Clavdiachauchat
      @Clavdiachauchat 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Penn insisted on the grid pattern partly because he had witnessed the devastation of the Great Fire of London in 1666, and partly because he thought streets with long sight lines would prevent immoral behavior. He thought the narrow, winding alleys of London encouraged both fire and vice. In planning his new city, he actually was trying to move away from most urban environments found in Europe or colonial America at the time. He was picturing a “green country town” in opposition to what he saw as the sordid medieval tinderboxes of Europe.

    • @MichaelRubillo
      @MichaelRubillo 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@um1446 segregation had absolutely nothing to do with how the 158 neighborhoods were originated. Since then however it is true different cultural groups have congregated together in areas. For instance the South East Philadelphia is still primarily Italian, Chinatown in the center of town, etc. Areas have even changed over time. North East Philly used to be primarily Irish immigrants but over the years has changed to have more of a Russian influence. Mount Airy and Germantown areas used to be mostly Jewish and has more of an African culture today. I think it is only natural for cultural group to congregate together and can be seen in many areas, not only Philadelphia. A good example would be the Central Jersey area with a large population of people from India moving in.

    Just found your wonderful channel. I'm from the UK and only been to the US twice. NY for 3 days (too busy for me) followed by Wilmington, NC for 10 days. Previous trip was to Philly for 2 weeks. TBH, I was worried as I had read about the crime rate but all that was gone on after the first day there. What a beautiful, beautiful city. We were out every day and night and felt safe throughout. The buildings are out of this world, the areas with the terraced town houses reminded us of the UK as did the streets with the small shops. We had breakfast everyday in the Reading Terminal Market and then headed out to explore. Everyone was so friendly and polite. Furthest we got was King Of Prussia Mall via a bus. Out of the three places I have been, it's up there at Number 1 and I would go back in a heartbeat.
