    It's honestly a bit sad to hear a super GM tell Levy that his best chance for a GM norm, is to look for tournaments with older GMs, past their prime. I generally like Levy, but I wish he took that as a hint that maybe GM is not in the stars for him.
    Besides, and this may sound cruel, but I honestly much rather Levy just explained games by GM's, rather than devoting installment after installment on his own games. He is, after all, still 'only' below 2400. Same reason I typically don't watch women's chess.

      What's your rating Sir/Madam? I don't think Hikaru meant to demotivate Levy all he meant was a lot of these young kids/ young adults are extremely strong for their rating as they progress fast and so they're generally difficult to play especially when Levy can't afford to lose rating and needs to keep gaining rating.

    My advice for levy would be to travel a few days in advance, so he can get rid of the jet lag and acclimate. This is what levy is capable of. He also needs to figure out a way to not let bad games affect his entire tournament. This game was a good sign. Good game. Good momentum for his next tournament.

    • @roderickmain9697
      @roderickmain9697 26 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

      Yes. He needs to get rid of the jet-lag. 10am in italy is 4am in NYC. I think he's also restraining his urge to overthink a position and then just make a semi-random move, His precision is improving. He even says it himself in his own recaps - no funny stuff. I am confident he will make the grade.

    6 out of 9! Great Recap GM Hikaru!
    For me, I liked the shining smile on the 15 year old, Shaik, face right after he drew Levy, it was like, "I drew against the great Levy Rozman." It is all a matter of perspective. This GM plays challenging games, he won 4 games during the tournament, 2 draws, 3 losses, for a score of 5 of 9. A more aggressive style than Levy, and a good game and matchup.

Before this, my best game versus Francis was forcing a draw from a losing position (-7) which I actually felt pretty good about. I was so excited when I saw a mate in 5 that I missed a relatively easy to find mate in 3; which kinda sullied my win.

    Hikaru should make a video, commenting Levy's vidéo analysis of is game 9... or better yet do a collab with Levy to help him improve... should make a nice vidéo also :)

    And if black were to put the bishop on b4 to pressure the night, black would be fine but obviously here it simply hangs a bishop 💀😂😂 I died hahahaha

    Well Levy got 6/9 points.. and the FM Pawel Sowinski that got 2nd place had 7/9.. So it really not that bad after all.

    I hope Levy doesn't take this result as a negative, after the high he got from his last tournament. This tournament he actually faced better competition, even if their ratings were lower. Levy needs to beat other future GM's on his road to GM. Yeah, beating actual GMs is required to get the norm but at the end of the day the title means less than improvement. Who wants to be a GM titled player who only plays at a 2200 level anyway? The title is nice, but it's just a title. Being able to play better chess is the goal here.
    That said - Levy played nervous this tournament. Likely a result of having such a great result in his prior events. He was afraid to look bad and he missed chances. That's happens. Most sequels are worse than the original because they don't take chances.
    When Levy DID start taking chances he played great games. Levy in the early matches would never have sacrificed his queen (like he did in round 6 or 7). He was too afraid of losing to win earlier on in the event. You see this at the super GM level all the time - instead of playing to win players often just play to draw because that's easier. Finding a line to a draw is easier than finding a line to a win against a similar strength player. That's one reason Anish and Magnus are great - they will play to win. Hikaru too often plays to draw in OTB chess - at least from what I see. Since he is a bit more prone to rushed decisions due to his preference towards time control chess - he often make an inaccuracy that other super GMs can capitalize on if given time to calculate.
    Time control players are at their best when they are playing to win, and not to draw. Creating attacks and forcing decisions instead of tactics lets them force opponents to use extra time and they gain a mental advantage. Levy needs to stop trying to be Magnus and play more like himself. Attacking, sacrificing, and jumping to midgame as soon as possible. Live in the mid game. That's where bullet players thrive.

    R7 win with the queen sac & the 4 queenside pawns push was a bit of a high spot for Levy no?

    I thought this was a stellar game from Levy but after watching Hikaru’s analysis I’m like he’s just fortunate that he wasn’t playing Hikaru, Stockfish or any number of the teeming multitude of young underrated Indians.

    0:40 You mean, after computer analysis, there's STILL such a thing in chess as an "experimental opening"??
