    I was taught (well, told by kaumātua from Kahungunu & Ngāti Porou) that the wahine form of whai kōrero had its own form and reserved for wahine rangatira, as they would have had similar tutelage as their tāne counterparts (whakapapa, kōrero tuku iho, etc). Now that mātauranga Māori is more open (to some degree), it would be amazing to revitalise the practice, especially in the areas where it was once practiced.

    Christianity is the religion of the Crown coloniser. Maori gods should be invoked and brought onto the marae and Moana realised this disappearing aspect of te ao Maori. Tihei Mauriora!!!! Whether wahine can speak on the paepae is for each hapu to decide. But I am not surprised Moana te rangatira requested this progressive change at his tangihanga. Haere ra e Moana. Takoto, takoto, takoto, Kia ora.
