To this day, one of my favorite videos on TH-cam. Whatever journey this man made in the 15 years since, i hope he was happy.

After just watching your return to the farm and seeing it in ruins, it saddens my heart Kurt. This precious man spent his entire life tending to his tea farm and now it is in ruins...='(

What an amazing individual. I sincerely hope that the remaining tea farmers like him are able to conserve their tradition for centuries to come. Beautiful video - thanks for sharing.

Wow! This man is amazing! I guess the combination of walking and hard work and green tea have kept him young. His farm is beautiful!

Hardboiled old man, great! I drink every day more than 1 litre green tea and I love hiking. In my town I go everyday 8 - 15 km on foot. I only can pray to be so tough in my 80 years like this old man.
    Have a good day

A Big Thank You! I am someone who began drinking green tea every day 30 years ago. I've often wondered what green tea looks like when it is growing and now I know. At least I know what this gentleman's green tea farm looks like. Thanks for the "trip". So enjoyed!

I love the Japanese language. It sounds so beautiful and cute (depending who is speaking).
I'm highly addicted to green tea. I drink one bowl of Matcha, two cups of Sencha, and one of sench powder.
wonderful vid. Thank you so much for posting it.

That is a beautiful forest, and the tradition that goes with it is warming to hear. A badge of honor to be one of the last to do it by hand- you are certainly good at finding the most interesting things in Japan!
If you said such, I apologize, but how long do you think the travel is? Quite a way for anyone to go so far so often, at least, by today's standards. I wonder how often he goes up there.

What a nice walk up to the field. I was noticing how very straight the trees were and wondering if they had been planted for timber. Is the name spelled Hinoki? Or is the "ki" part tree
Like Ki no matsu (pine tree).
Do you know what the wood from that tree is used for?

Just had my first premium loose-leaf (imported from India) style green tea...What a difference! The smell and taste are both leaps and bounds ahead of any bagged tea, i swear its like a completely different type of drink. Damn it, now that I've tasted it i might not be able to go back, this habit might get more costly :-P

I just bought some expensive mountian green tea from china when I was there a week ago. I live in california and maybe Im used to cheap organic green tea bags but my tea from china comes out very light and without much flavor, is this ok? I just assumed the darker and richer flavor the better quality it is, please someone school me and green tea.

Japan is a very safe country. Strict gun and drug control help toward this. People worry far less about crazy people coming and murdering your kids. The older generation particularly are very hard-working. Generally, they're friendly toward foreigners as they consider them guests.

I understand that any tea's quality in terms of medicinal medicine are strongly based on location, bud type and altitude. Does anyone recommed where I can buy high quality mountain exported green tea? thank-you

what do you do for living that allows you wander around the mountains of japan and randomly run into a tea farmer who has a secret farm on top of a mountain? I'm guessing you're an internet entrepreneur or some sort of similar occupation whatever you do, you're obviously more interesting than most people and certainly not a square

  • @Killermuffin1
