Hey Christopher, thx for the video. I wanna ask you what was the purpose of you to buy a 9.9 hp rather than go with 6hp outboard. Speed, torque, emergency escape from storms..etc? I have a 3.3m inflatable boat with 9.9hp Mercury. Actually it is the same outboard with your Tohatsu. Sometimes i think why i didnt buy a 5 or 6hp. Because this one is 38kg and 12kg fuel tank totally 50kg weight :) And with myself i only use the half power of 9.9hp. Maybe you can explain the difference of their performances, power or other stuffs to understand my choice was OK or not. Thanks a lot.
Did you struggle with the weight putting it on and off the dinghy? Wa hats the weight around 90 pounds? I really want that 9.8 but will constantly be taking it on and off so am little worried about the weight and was considering getting the 6hp one :/
Thanks for the detailed video. It motivated me to get the same one. I just think it is a bit too heavy after all. Anyhow, have you transported it laying down on its side without removing the oil, is that ok to do? I keep my boat uninflated and did not know I could not transport it like the 6hp. Any tip would be appreciated. Thanks.
cool video mate, i have a similar set up. Just got my outboard delivered. I saw your trolley video, have you had any issues transporting the outboard laying flat instead of upright? was planning on laying it flat in my pickup truck so i can have my bed cover closed.
is it difficult to maneuver 9.8? electric start is 88lb dry weight? Im considering upgrading my 6hp to 9.8, I'd love to have electric start but I'm afraid its a little to heavy to carry around 90-92lb with oils.
Hi Chris. Do you know the steering angle of this motor? I mean the number of degrees that the head of the motor can rotate for each side. The yamaha 6Hp has 90°. And this one?
Hi, Chris nice video. Did you find a big difference between the 6hp and 9.8hp? I am in the same situation. I have the chance to buy a Tohatsu 9.8 2 strokes used... looks very nice Did you have 2 strokes before? big difference?
Nice new motor. I could feel the vibrations are a lot less. The EFI must help a lot. Any thoughts on why u got rid of the 6hp? Too slow for the boat? Was the 6hp sufficient to plane the boat?
I think this is a carbureator,EFI Start at 9,9 15 and 20 that use the same block, but it,s so called intacemanifoils that give it a silent and steady run.I got one earlier the 25 3 cyl 4 stroke EFI and that one was silent and stable. But this is a good engine and concider it myself.
Christopher Flannigan it performs really well when the boat is balanced out. One thing to check though; I’ve been getting saltwater splashing inside the rear of the cowling. When I get it home and flush the motor I find dried salt deposits splashed on and around the fuel pump and rear of the engine. I’ve checked the seals and cowling clasp, they’re good. I’m going to ask the dealer. Other than that, good motor.
@@dennislabrador3554 Nissan's out of the motor business I believe. Think all Mercs 20hp and under are just rebranded Tohatsus. Merc thinks its name is worth a few hundred more bucks. Just bought a new 8hp Tohatsu for my 14 ft. jon boat - hope to get on the water soon.
I hate having to listen to music when I just want to see what an outboard motor is like. What's next - dancers and Beyonce/? Can't you function without music?
Great motors, ultra reliable, easy to work on and plentiful supply of parts.
Bought the manual start only version of this same motor from the same online dealer. It's been perfect for our 12' v-hull, and easy to maintain.
Yes very happy with it
Im about to buy one with only 10hours on it for 900$ for my 12’ jon boat
I bought a older 18hp 2 stroke a few years back barely used, and its a power house.
Buying my Tohatsu tomorrow. Thx. Watching from Ontario Canada 🎉
Nice engine, I’ve got a 9.9 mariner on a sunsport 2.7 and it’s like a bullet, you’ll be amazed at how fast your honwave will go now!

Where I could buy the same motor?
thanx for this video you helpt my a lot 👍 great job .
Great video. Impressed by easy pull start. Was it difficult to fill lower gear oil? cheers

Yes you can lay this on it’s side. I have the same motor with electric start purchased in 2009 on my 14’ porta-bote. It’s heavy. 45 kg.
Tell me please, does this motor have a generator? Does it charge the battery? Thanks
My congratulations ,
great engine 🌝👍
Dose this engine lock in reverse
i have the same motor but it evinride rebrand mine has power tilt and elictric start
Can you tell me where you purchased the battery box? Also did the battery come with the motor?
Do you think you would need electrical tilt in your case, i got mine without electrical tilt an debating if i need it?

Do all these tohatsu 9.8 need battery
No. That's just for electric start. You use the manual pull cord no battery needed.

Hi! Please let us know if it feels smoother? Less vibration on the tiller so hand wont sore as fast.
After being in the water do you have to use a trash can to run clean water or is there a hose for this outboard?
Is this a real question?

what is the name of the battery you are using?
where did you order it and how much did it cost you?
Am I correct in thinking small yamahas are actually rebadged Tohatsus?
No, Yamaha make their own outboards. Tohatsu make them for Mariner and Mercury though.
Did the gasoline cannister include?
Yes.
What's the price and where can I get 1
Great video thanks. Do they all include gas can and line or is that an upgrade package? And where did you get the battery box?
Is it true tohatsu made mercury and mariners?
Yes
Is there any 9.9hp or 9.8hp outboards under 1000$
Yes cheaply made Chinese motors but not worth the hassle, if you can stretch to a tohatsu and look after it it will never let you down.
@@JI7NKJ that was a long time ago and I was able to purchase a 15hp 2014 tohatsu for 800$

I don't remember ever needing to hook my 8 hp Honda to a battery to start it??
Yours isn’t electric start then is it.
Hi i need this engine!!!can you share a link where you got this?

How much oil does it take ? I need to Chanhge my oil
I have the exact same motor, on a Honwave T30. Planes great with two adults. Goes like stink with one.

Wow beautiful toy u got.. is this four strokes? How heavy is this beast? Tohatsu is it made by suzuki?
