    If you get some more of that breading... take boneless pork chops, chicken cutlets (or regular boneless chicken breast sliced to make cutlets), or veal cutlets, pound them thin between parchment paper. Then bread them and pan fry them in a neutral oil. Crispy and delicious. Also, you can do this rolling the meat in seasoned flour, dip in beaten eggs, then roll in breadcrumbs. Very tasty😊

    The pork chops should go in beaten eggs, and than in the bread crumbs ( then they stick ) and baking till golden ( than its nice and crunchy) in the package was just bread crumbs ( with salts and some other seasonings) is used in europe mostly as we don't have panko everywhere, usually we put meat in flower, than beaten egg and last in bread crumbs. If you don't use eggs its doesn't stick and doesn't make nice crunchy layer 😊

    Our town food bank wont accept past date food. Last I knew meat was a rarity usually only turkey on Thanksgiving and Christmas and Ham on Easter. Bread can be picked up at the senior center in town on Tuesdays. Fresh veggies are at a premium donated by a local farm during growing season . There is another food program you have to call monthly if you can get through and get on the list that will deliver a package to your home you might get a package of some meat, cheese and eggs from that one they also help with christmas and furniture if you qualify. But we dont have anything like what you have. Ive been told Salvation Army has a program where you can fill a bag of food from their office for a small donation I was told under $5

    I went on Thursday here in Sydney Australia and tried one of our local food banks for the first time. I was so nervous and unsure about what was required of me, the gentleman was so sweet and friendly! I got some Turkish bread, Lebanese bread, mixture of vegetables and fruits, fresh cloudy apple juice, Wheatbix, spaghetti and beans, zoopa doopa ice blocks, apricot pastry dessert, prosciutto wrapped around a cheese. Plus more and apparently you can go Monday to Friday every day if you want to, they get deliveries everyday sometimes multiple times a day and it all depends on whom arrives and what they bring, they only ask you bring your own bags. I was completely shocked and pleasantly surprised I ended up making: toasted Lebanese bread with toasted prosciutto and melted cheese, added mustard and mayonnaise with salad and my Dad loved it. He's on a very restricted diet, as a diabetic with end stage kidney failure he eats Low Sodium, Low Potassium, Low Fat, Low Protein and limited Carbohydrates, his food is normally very bland and tasteless this way he got something very different as a treate.

    My food bank had butternut squash last time I was there, they were the biggest ones I'd ever seen when I put the two halves on my baking tray it took up the entire tray & it took both my hands to lift it. It was my guilty pleasure to enjoy while my son was with his dad for the holidays, instead of having to cook I roasted up that bad boy with some butter & brown sugar & instead of having to really cook for a few days I just ate raw foods, snacks & reheated the leftover squash for dessert.

    I often throw some minced carrots, celery and onion in my rice pilaf kind of dishes, whether from a mix or scratch. And top with some spring onion if I have it. Adds some color and flavor. Probably a little bell pepper would be good too. I just quarter the tiny tomatoes and call it good. Glad your foodbank gets such a variety. That must be so helpful to people in your area. Hopefully they all watch you and either learn how to preserve things or send you tips because they have skills too. Keep doing what you're doing!

    I just found your channel! You are a delight to watch. It's like watching my Mom teaching me how to cook in my teenage years. Or myself in my first apartment in college. The tomato trick works if you use flat plates. Personally I use the flat sides of two large plastic lids (coffee can size) because 1) the lip on them makes it easier to hold in place and 2) I avoid dulling my knife by scraping against the top and bottom of my plates. Oxo brand makes a device that slices 5-7 at a time too, but that is simply too few tomatoes at a go. Thank you for having your channel. I'll be a regular now waiting for my next notification 😉.

    Carolina, if those persimmons are hard, they have to be completely ripe, very ripe before being able to eat them. You can make persimmon bread or cookies, look up a recipe, I think you will need at least a whole cup of the soft fruit. Maybe more. Let them sit a few days in a warm spot, or window sill.

    I wanted to say how much I admire you for standing up for Gideon when people made rude comments about him liking to dress up in girls clothes. Nobody know's what this precious little boy will grow up to be. He is very creative he may become a fashion designer, make costumes for the famous theater's. People are cruel to even judge another person's child they should mind their own business and raise their own children. You handled those comments so well. Carolina we all have those stressed out mom day's but you do not have a mean bone in your body and you would do anything for anybody. You alway's put your family before yourself. My children are 40(son) and a daughter 35 who has autism and has a heart of gold. We love your family. Would it be okay if we send the kids a christmas gift? Watching them as I adore them oh and the cat too. You can open the boxes and you will know they are christmas gifts and you can hide them until Christmas under the tree or when ever your family celebrates the holiday. Oh and the closer it gets to thanksgiving Turkeys go on sale really cheap and even though we would never eat a big Turkey I want to buy a couple because chicken and every other meat is so high. I wanted to cook them up and divide the meat up in freezer bags or vacumn seal them and you could use them in soups,stews,casseroles and knowing you will have a 100 other ideas. Plus We think of our pets too use it also for their food I know Happy our little dog would never eat a salad lol. So with a meat being so cheap great to stock up plus you can throw the bones in the freezer so you can make stock. I have no idea how to can so can you put the broth in a freezer bag and lay flat on a cookie sheet until it freezes? ALSO CAN YOU DO A VIDEO ON HOW TO COOK A TURKEY MY DAD WHO PASSED AWAY ALWAYS DID THE TURKEY PLEASE A VIDEO FOR THOSE OF USE WHO HAVE NEVER COOKED A TURKEY! GOD BLESS YOU AND YOUR FAMILY!

      Thank you so much Crystal! All your encouragement and understanding really means a lot to me!! We would love any gifts for Christmas! We made an Amazon list, but anything that reminds you of us or you think we would like, are amazing gifts! Yes you can freeze stock that way. I did do a turkey video about a year ago. I made it in the roaster and then made stock from the bones in the same roaster! THANK YOU AGAIN FOR ALL YOUR LOVE AND SUPPORT!!

    Hi Mama Baird. I love watching your food bank hauls, and what you do with some of the food. I thought I would just say a word or two about your persimmons. What you actually got are Sharon Fruit. I used to get confused because some places sold Sharon Fruit and some sold Persimmons, and I thought they were the same thing, but I was wrong. They are from the same family, but Persimmons are longer and a bit thinner as well as being a little sharper in taste, and the Sharon fruit are a bit more round and not as long, they are also usually quite a bit sweeter. In my local supermarket the Sharon fruit are almost always a few pennies more expensive £1.50 for 3 and the Persimmons are £1.29 for 3. We are only able to get them for a few weeks every year, which is a shame as the Sharon fruit is my favourite fruit. I hope you liked them.
    Much love and respect from the South East of England. xx

    • @mamabairds
      @mamabairds  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for all that information!! How do you eat the Sharon Fruit? Just like raw or is it better to make something with them?

    • @judithrichardson8213
      @judithrichardson8213 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@mamabairds I have only ever eaten them raw, like an apple. The skins often look a bit rough, bruised or with the odd black spots, but as long as you wash them they are fine. Also you may think the insides look a bit discoloured but honestly they are the sweetest. My parents used to eat them every year, and I thought they looked rather nasty, but one day mum got me to close my eyes and put a bit in my mouth. It was the sweetest thing I think I had ever eaten, and have never looked back. I honestly don't know about cooking with them, though you probably could. I really hope you like them. Much love and respect. x

    This is very very true. Let your your persimmon get really ripe then remove the seed and be careful because you have to bite the seed in half long ways. Inside the seed you will see a spoon,a knife or spoon and maybe a fork. The spoon means plenty of snow this winter as you will be shoveling,the knife means it will be bitter cols as you cut through the freezing wind I can't remember what the fork means but this has held true for many many generations. Please forgive my typo's and my memory as I had my open heart surgery on this past friday and it will be my last! After opening my chest up and actually having removed a small portion of my heart out and more work on my heart I woke up in recovery OMG the pain was unbearable and all you get is 1 tylenol for all that pain. Never again will I have another! It seems they think everybody is a drug addict. Plus he was going in one leg but ended going in both legs.Please pray for our precious dog happy we discovered she has diabeties and cushings disease which people can have both of these also. With her cushings disease she has a benign tumor on her pituatary gland and takes insulin twice a day and her medication one daily for her cushings.

    The kids are all just lovely, aren't they? Nice manners and very sweet. I always love how Gid just does his thing as he's fully confident in his family's love.
    First thing to remember with your turkey is take the neck and giblets out. They're in a little bag inside the cavity. You can look up recipes to use the weird bits to make stock and gravy if you're not into eating those bits. The bird will cook faster if you don't stuff it. It will still take longer than you think. And you'll have less anxiety about if it's done if you do the stuffing/dressing separately. Using instant stuff is not a crime. There's only so much one person can do in the kitchen on their own. Instant mashed potatoes are real potatoes with real butter and milk, just no elbow grease. And what people don't know won't hurt you. Just sayin. If you're cooking for a crowd get them to bring the sides and dessert. That'll take some pressure off you since you're dealing with the bird. Also set the table the night before so you don't have to deal with that. Wine, in moderation, is your friend. Good luck with your first turkey. It'll be awesome and you'll be very proud of yourself once it's done!

    You had the whole wrong plate to cut the tomatoes. Use 2 flat plates.

    I think your pasta and rice would have browned better if you had not rinsed the rice.

    Your trick didn’t work because of the curve to the plate. Try lids….cool whip type lids. One on top and one on bottom….that works.
