As a social worker who assists clients in the food bank, I can tell you if it isn't used, it gets THROWN OUT. In my area, the electric company is raising rates 14% starting next month. People (including those who WORK) are being priced out of life in all areas. Stop judging. Medical debt, utilities, astronomical housing costs, etc. And by all means, utilize your local food bank! I am so sick of people thinking people need to look "poor enough" to use it. Sorry you have to deal with rude people. Keep up the videos and happy New year to you and your family!!

I think what throws people off is many people who were middle class are now the working poor, and we don’t look like what people think poor people look like. Just 5 years ago as a single mom I was considered middle class. My income has remained the same (work in the school system so no raises in a while) but my cost of living has increased so much that I’m now part of the working poor class. I make $20 too much per month to qualify for snap. I would go to food banks if they weren’t open during the hours I work. I say do what ever you need to do to take care of your kiddos! The struggle is real.

I just spoke with my 17 yo son about this. He said most people don't know about the resources that are available or don't want to ask for help. Thank you for what you do. For showing people that it's okay to ask for help. When we did use the food bank and they learned I was sharing with other people who wouldn't go, they gave me extra because they just have to throw away what's left over. It's horrible that people are shamed for accepting help.

This is true. I been using the food pantries for a year now because things just went from worst to past worst. When i started to use the pantry i cried. I was handed a box of food and looked in the box and saw things i could NOT use (Our house hold is a NO soy house hold. Almost everything has Soy oil in it now that is pantry stable. We have other food allergies that can cause hospital stays in house.). I was not given a choice of what was handed to me and the 211 number told me this is where i HAVE to get food. I learned by word of mouth other churches that gave out food to anyone. Some of these churches allow you to pick out food. I love the fact i can get produce at these other places. With the food allergies it is wonderful when i can get fresh produce to cook with or make a jam out of. This week end my mother in law was over. I had saved some thin cut ribeye for her to make into a bulgogi meal. Was not a very big package but they were able to eat it for lunch and have left overs for dinner. I finished off some left overs from Christmas dinner. I showed my mother in law a rib roast i got from a pop up food give away recently. I do not have any idea how to cook it so she said she will cut it up and make some Korean dish next time she comes over. It was something i would never purchase because it was regularly $46. But i was super happy to get it because my partner and daughter eat red meat. If i don't know how to cook it my mother in law usually does. I got 2 packages of ribs in summer and she came over and chopped them up and made a marinade to put them in to keep in frig. Her, my daughter and partner enjoyed a good lunch the rest was in frig for me to cook as needed for next few days.
I try not to talk to some people at pantry. There are people that will tell you that you do not belong there. I had someone tell me my car was to nice. I drive a 2002..... They were in a 2023. They made a huge stink and were super loud about it. Pointing me out and yelling about how i was keeping food from those who really need it. Finally some guy told her You have a new car why are you here. He then told her my car was older than the hills. Which it is. I have seen Many who just cut line. I have seen older people get into pushing and punching matches over someone cutting. Things just shock me over what they do. Most pantries i go to you have to start lining up at 6am and they do not give out numbers or start until 12 noon or 3pm. Getting food is a full time job. I like the car lines more than standing in line because it is harder for people to jump the line. Omg People lie like no tomorrow and do not care if they are caught.
We have fresh food boxes given out and over the last year they finally got some of the places listed on the food bank website. You drive up and open your trunk and they give you a box that is suppose to have $20 of fresh food. It usually has a 3 pound bag of potatoes, 3 pound bag of apples, a bag of lentils or some other bean, then it has random other items like eggplant, grapes, oranges, bell peppers, squash and other veggies that are usually in season. I added up cost of the box and generally it is under $20 value but it is fresh produce and i love fresh so i am very great full for those boxes.

My neighbor’s sister in law volunteers at a food bank, and there’s often so much left over food, that if someone doesn’t take it, it’ll get thrown out. My neighbor often picks up the food, and shares it with me, because she can’t fit it all in her pantry and freezer. I’m happy to take it, and save it from the landfill.

A couple years ago, we found ourselves needing to utilize the food bank and some church food pantries. We own a home & have two nicer vehicles however, our circumstances changed drastically when my husband got transferred 100 miles away (one way) for work and gas was $7-$7.50 a gallon here. Our fuel bill increased 2 fold so our grocery money had to fill in. I felt guilty going because of how we “looked” and driving up in my nicer car but seeing your videos really helped me to realize that I shouldn’t care. Only we knew our situation and that’s all that mattered. What we couldn’t use, we shared with our community. Do what you need to do for your family. There’s a lot of judgmental people out there but that’s a them problem and not a you problem.

I think I have told you before that as a food bank volunteer, I saw that there was so much waste from grocery stores that needs to get utilized for something other than a landfill. I am glad to see stuff put to good use instead of wasted.....Everybody has struggles and nobody should judge others for any choices that they make to save money. I have made a lot of sacrifices over the years to get where I am today. I think a lot of people at times in my life thought I was a bit crazy, but I did what I had too to secure my comfortable retirement that I am living now.....
You are also doing the right thing to be there for your kids while they are young. Too many people want the babysitter to raise their kids instead of being there to parent them. The kids are not gonna remember how much money there was, but whether Mom and Dad were around for them.
As far as youtube, please keep on teaching and educating others. I have learned a few good cooking tricks from you myself. Those that don't like your content should just mind their own business and stop watching. Don't they have anything better to do with their life than complain about others? I know I am too busy actually living life to sit and watch stuff just to criticize the person presenting it. I guess some people need to actually "get a life".

We live on one income and before my husband lost his job of 8 years I was still going to the food bank because he worked his ass off and we had to buy food with cash and it was hard to make it stretch with a family of six people! I remember having to always put food back at the store bc I went over my budget. Until I started going to the food bank it changed our life for the good! We was able to stretch our food into the next month! It’s so important people understand the concept that there should be no entitlement of going to the food bank and being a working family or an elderly living on a disability whatever the case might be. Would they rather us all not work and collect benefits from everywhere?? That’s something to think about. Before I was the lady with kids at register having to pick out food items to put back and dealing with rude people rolling their eyes at the checkout line. I would be in tears 😭 sometimes. The food bank has blessed us and I will forever be grateful❤️ and I see that precious fur baby looking at you knowing your upset that was so cute 🥰

I was sitting by a teenage boy tht had ridden his bike to get food. The oreacher asked him to help set up food. I put a 5 dollar bill in his bag. We went through the line. I told him to get whatever he wanted and i would help him take it to his house. He looked very grateful. He rode his bike and i followed him. He lived close to me. When we got there several little kids came out and his Mom. He told me several times Thanks. He deserved the money for helping his family. I belive in karma. She explained a problem that our hospital has. Every 2 weeks on Saturday someone delivers Milk ,Eggs ,Butter, Bread,Yogurt,Cottage Cheese,Ground Beef,Fresh Vegetables,(very nice ham for thanksgiving), Cheese,. This time I got real butter as well as avocado oil. It helps so much. They deliver it to our door. We get onion’s sweet potatoes, white potatoes celery, seasonings. House Insurance went up $800 .. no we will pay $2400 a year!
Med Blue RX went up $43 for each of us a month now we will pay $147 each a month
Our car insurance was $1200 yearly now it it $1886.
Our BC/BS went from $1305 monthly to $1664.
House taxes were$1500 last year now that are $1900. So we couldn’t buy food before all this so we have been dumpster diving. At our age this shouldn’t be happening! Yes we have a food bank but the people assisting are people that I went to school with. So I’m to embarrassed to go in. The horrible feeling is when u are hungry. We planted a garden this year. God has helped us stay positive . One example was a farmer across the road from us GAVE us a 400 pound hog. He raises them and he had 15 that were just getting old. So he replaced them with new and took others to the locker to be processed. He gave us that! We pay for processing which is under$400. The hog dressed out at 286 pounds! Thank God and this family for help us! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

i work in and manage a food pantry as part of a food bank network. it is a matter of balance. She is correct that in particular the fresh food is at end of days. It is Dept of Ag provided and also shelf pulls from local retailers. I would rather give it out then to see it end in a dumpster. We pipeline the damaged fresh produce to people to feed their animals or to organizations that compost. I would rather give it there then to see it end of in dumpsters. My experience over 15 front line years, is that, yes, there will be a few hoarders, scammers, but they are few and far between. People of means may try it but they tend to very quickly self select out. Also keep in mind, some of this food is commodity and it is price support for farmers as well.

I worked 34 years at the same job until I became disabled. I am now almost 69 and I QUALIFY for the food bank. Do those folks who try to shame you think that this is what I wanted for my retirement? The government who caused this inflation is now letting me have food that other people won't buy. I say let the "judgers" choke on the food they can afford. In the meantime, I will continue watching your videos and being grateful for them. Have a wonderful New Year, and blessings for your family! ❤❤

I use two and am on disability. Gas here is $3.29/gallon. Eggs a few weeks ago were 8.99 for 18. Two chicken breasts yesterday were 10.00. I can’t afford to breathe let alone function. I have a system that works. We can, only eat at home, feed children, clothe children and still try to garden to produce food for when it gets tough. People love to pass judgement, meanwhile a lot of ppl are up to their eyeballs in debt just trying to feed their families. Many people are putting their grocery purchases on credit cards and can’t pay them off. I’ve been a long time subscriber and I get a lot of shame, ridicule etc for going…yet, im still going. ❤️ you.

Don't let these uneducated and ridiculous people bring you down Carolina! I've watched you for the past few years now and always enjoyed how welcoming, kind and supportive you are. You've been very honest along the way with your family's situation and why you need to use the local food banks. There isn't any shame in it at all! The shamefulness comes from the wretched greed with these horrendous grocery prices in every state and that unless someone has been in a situation where they have little options for food, they are just not empathic to someone else's concerns. I live in Portland, Oregon and milk is $4 a gallon here too. Everything is very expensive and only going up in price in my area. My husband owns his own business and I work full time with a great paying job. But, I still have to shop all the bargains at multiple stores and try to keep our food budget reasonable. I also cook the majority of our food from scratch and have for years. We have a 17 yr old daughter that's a Senior in high school. She wants to go to college out of state but we simply don't have that extra money and want her to be saddled with huge student loans. I did that rodeo too and it's so crippling!!! We have convinced her to go to our local community college for 2 years and get the basic required classes over with that can transfer to a larger school later if she decides to do that. We haven't need to use a food panty or food bank yet. We donate to our local one during the year. But I'm so grateful that you have been teaching people not only how to cook things that might typically receive from a food box but making it fun and an adventure. As well as truly expressing the fact that is absolutely okay to ask for help!! Keep it up!! I think it would be a nice idea for you to maybe do a monthly interview with fellow volunteers and staff at the food bank if you can. It wouldn't help all the haters to see the light but I think it's a great way to show people what it's really like on the other side and how much it helps your community. I know you've done that in the past but maybe time to do something like that again. Happy and Blessed New Year to you and your family!

So many people are diligently working and are not paid a living wage, CEO pay is at a record high, profits are at record high.
It's so odd that it has been acceptable for companies keeping employees compensation low enough that they cannot meet their needs, and then blame the workers for needing help. it's rare to find a CEO who takes pride in sharing the wealth in order to have employees have a living wage (which SHOULD be the norm).
Thank you for showing people what to do with surprise food.
I grew up with food insecurity that was augmented by gardening, canning, hunting, fishing as well as government cheese, spam, butter (the 1960s, no food banks then).

Were retired existing only on Social Security and my Disability but still make too much money to qualify for our State run food bank. And we do need help. Corporate greed has driven prices up so high that affordable living seems to be a fantasy. We've been able to squeeze by using faith based food banks that do not require proof of income. But it's very frightening that the government expects us to survive on so little while the price of absolutely everything continues to rise.

I think it's fabulous that you're able to utilize local resources...I've checked and my local food banks request proof of food stamps or income to receive, but if you fall into that "working poor" category, then you appear too wealthy to receive. I'd love to use the resource, but I'm also happy for those that do! I think you're exactly right about people having their own ideas of what "needy" looks like...

I worked almost 35 years of my life before I became disabled. I have survived cancer, a stroke and a brain tumor.. I have had 58 surgeries in my lifetime and I am 59 and I have another surgery coming up as I have a cataract.. I am probably going to have a few more.. my medical needs and the equipment I have had to purchase ( walkers, shower chair, bed rails and a new bed and mattress) makes it NECESSARY for me to have to utilize my local food bank, where I can get plenty of fresh produce and meat because where I live a lb of ground beef is 10$.. if I don’t use the fb then I have to choose buying the food or buying my meds… that’s not what senior citizens should have to choose

Omg… things are so expensive now days! The food bank helps you when you can’t make ends meet. People need to stop. They don’t know your circumstances!! Love you Carolina❤️

Yes I utilize the food bank to afford other things... things like therapy for my kids, dentist, car repair and home maintenance.... I "shouldn't" need food banks but it helps me. Grateful and hopeful I can turn things around with the help.
