my new 2017 iPad has been working great so far on my P4P, was out for a solid 2 hours yesterday in 90+ temps and had zero transmission quality issues, night and day difference between that and my iPad mini 2. the glare is pretty bad but can easily be solved by an anti-inflammatory screen protector.
Hey guys love the show! So I'm trying to do some mapping and just received my new iPad pro 11", one problem I've yet to have any of my dji drones or controllers recognized by the ipad, all my research come back to using the right cable can anyone tell me if they are using. New iPad pro and if so what cables???
You don't have to have a cell phone data enabled iPad for mapping IF you create your mapping area ahead of time while you have wifi. That being said, it would be quite handy to have it cell phone enabled because sometimes DJI will make you sign in or you forgot one crucial step in setting things up. A cell phone that can be turned into a hotspot would be another option to have.
I'm using a new 5th gen 2017 iPad in FL and have yet to have any over heating issues and I'm using the newest firmware and apps without any issues at all.
Hey Drone U! Great info in you video! the 26th of July I leave for a 3 week trip to the Philippines. I have a DJI Spark Combo and a Samsung note 4. My note 4 is frustratingly laggy with the DJI GO 4 app, a lot of delay with the drone AND on the screen as well so I'm really worried using this setup in the Philippines. I know it can be quite hot in the Philippines. But also, the Wifi and Mobile networks over there are terrible from what I've heard and read. Do you have any suggestions about what tablet or screen I should buy to be reliable over there? Thank you!
This is exactly what happened to me flying in Phoenix, AZ. Had my P4P about 3/4 of a mile away and my iPad Air 2 over heated. I most generally fly with an Nvidia K1 Shield, no problem and it's super bright.
The biggest thing to keep in mind regarding devices is that typically non-cellular devices lack built-in GPS. For some applications that's not an issue and in some cases controllers have GPS built-in but for us we choose to get a cellular device and not activate the subscription to ensure that we have all of the available sensors onboard.
I just bought a P4P. Couldn't get video transmission past 500 meters so I exchanged it for another one. Same thing. Any idea if it's me or I just got unlucky twice? iPhone 7 plus 256 gb.
Blake Bowden just exchanged it for my third one and had the same issue right out of the box. Truly can't understand. Also, seems like the video quality on the second and third ones is bad.
OMG! I'm not alone. Exact same thing happened to me. Upgraded to P4P from P4, and here in Texas couldn't fly 5 minutes in 90 degree temps without flickering and green screens. Returned it to BestBuy and the same thing happened. However, the problem of flickering doesn't happen at night. I managed 4.2 miles at night. I use a 2017 iPad mini 4. Something is going on here. It's clearly not the aircraft. Otherwise I wouldn't be able to fly at night. The iPad isn't out long enough to over heat, it happens during liftoff, less than 50 feet up and less than 60 feet away. I have to land and wait until night when the sun and temps go down. I didn't have this issue under the same conditions with the P4 and my older iPad mini 4. Upgraded both and can't fly during the day. WTF.... BestBuy offered to swap it AGAIN, but I think its the model. I like the P4P but they suggested switching to Mavic UHGGGG!
Another great video! So, I've had my P4P for a couple of months and am still learning it. I use my samsung s7edge and always get crappy video when shooting at 60fps in either 4k or HD. Any suggestions, is it my phone? I'm using a 64 gig sandisk card. Also, what version of firmware do you recommend? I understand I can revert back to an earlier version of firmware. I like your thoughts on using a monitor without cell service. Thanks and keep the great information coming! John
Sorry bud but Android is the culprit for your phone slowing down... I have owned close to 15 android and Apple devices the last 3 yrs.. All my Androids are in the garbage or given to a nice or nephew.. My first gen iPad retina is still working..
george aronis lol what android did you use .. it's not 2011.. the pixel xl is faster than any iPhone .. Samsung s8 plus is so much better than a iPhone it's not funny.. the screen goes to 1000 nitts

do you need cellular data to fly the drone or not

So.....what are the best options for "cool", fast running small tablets besides the iPad minis? You never answered the question! Thanks
nvidia shield

Freddy York I had the same issue too.. check your 2.4 or 5.8 ghz.. change to 5.8 of in the city.. maybe it's the latest firmware.
my mavic gets way better transmission than my p40
Same here

the best option is the s8 plus.. it's as bright as the DJI screen. 1000 nitts! it's bigger as well. 6.2 inch
Have you had any connection issues with the Galaxy S8 plus?

A year later and Apple has been busted for slowing down phones.
