Haven't heard this song in a minute. This is your 10th Elton John song and you still are just scratching the surface. Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me, Sad Songs, Candle in the Wind, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Daniel, Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, LeVon, Philadelphia Freedom, and so many more!
Exactly! Scratching the surface of this guys insane, legendary list of hits. Don't forget Saturday Nights All Right for Fighting and I'm Still Standing!
Sacrifice was Elton John's first solo number 1 hit in the UK (he previously went to the top of the charts duetting with Kiki Dee on 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart'.)
You cannot go wrong with Elton John. Another good mellow song is “Something About the Way You Look Tonight”. I think you would both love it. Great Elton vocals and beautiful orchestra.
It's amazing how long this gifted man has been at this...I'm 65 and remember hearing him back in the early 70s when I was 13 or so. That is before high school and now I'm retired and this man is still going. He has always been just a wonderful performer. I've been to so many concerts I've lost count in my days but to this day, I'd say for solo type acts, yes I know he has a band behind him, but he is mainly solo, his was the funnest and best solo concerts ever. We danced, cried and laughed and rocked...Elton John is simply a treasure....
"Sacrifice" hi part, in 1989, went thru me. Then, in '21, I heard reboot w/Dua Lipa & got chills: I recognized "Sacrifice" in the 2020s remix. Both songs great. EJ: Treasure.
Jay is right with his comment about being able to hear Elton's voice better in this song. Similarly with his much older song "Daniel", which I highly recommend! And Amber, you are beautiful, young lady!
By far my most favourite Elton John song. So powerful. I cry every time I listen through this song (and I'm not exaggerating). It hits your emotions like a sledgehammer. This brings back very powerful emotions for me (and hurt). His voice is just outstanding. Compare this to most (often auto-tuned) vocalists today. There's just no comparison. This is all fantastic song writing, musicianship and pure talent. "Cold, cold heart. Hard done by you.". Tears dripping down my face. Thank you so much Amber and Jay for reviewing this.
Elton’s “Candle in the Wind” (a song in tribute to Marilyn Monroe) was a big hit on his Yellow Brick Road album. When Princess Diana died, Elton changed the lyrics from “Goodbye Norma Jean” to “Goodbye England’s Rose”. It would be cool to review the songs back to back.
What a beautiful song by sir Elton John..❤️ my favourite songs of him are Nikita, Daniel, Rocket Man, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Crocodile Rock, Bennie and the Jets, and Can You Feel the Love Tonight...👍🏻
Don't forget Bernie Taupin writes all Elton John's lyrics. He just hands them to Elton and Elton sets it on his piano starts to Read them and the music comes to his fingers. That's exactly how he does it. It is pure musical genius
Unbelievably talented. Elton has so many hits. Empty Garden for John Lennon and Candles in the Wind for Princess Diana are both beautiful. Glad you enjoyed this beautiful song. Buckets of Maple Syrup love from Canada ❤️❤️ 🇨🇦 🇨🇦
You definitely MUST react to Elton’s Funeral For A Friend/ Love Lies Bleeding. You’ll love it! You get tons of piano, great guitar work, and it’s both melodic and rocks.
I was 12 years old when I first heard Elton John. It was 1970. I am now 64. His music has graced my life for 52 years. How fortunate are we to have had these amazing artists during our lifetime. Sacrifice was his first UK number 1 in 1990 despite the fact he had been recording for over 20 years at that time. Brilliant song and brilliant heartfelt reaction. Thank you and best wishes to you both and your beautiful family from the UK. Take care.
My favorite Elton song. The video is just as powerful as the song. The angle of the mom leaving her husband and baby to me start a new life and how they cope .. powerful
In the 80's when I heard his songs on the radio, I didn't realize it fully then, but Elton was way ahead of his time. He is now a "Sir" which is no small feat.
Beautiful song. Growing up, Elton was my favorite singer/artist. I was fortunate to see him perform over 15 times, including at Dodgers Stadium, and his free concert in NY/ Central Park. I could recommend hundreds of his songs, but these three are special to me: "Where to now, St. Peter." "Blues for baby and me." And finally "Empty Garden," his and Bernie Taupins tribute to the Life and death of John Lennon, perhaps his closest friend, who he performed with at Madison Square Garden. You guys do a great job, discovering the music, I was honored to grow up with.
I’ve seen so much footage from the free 1980 New York Central Park concert you are so lucky to have gone to that and have seen Elton back during the height of his vocal falsetto… my mom got to see him in the early 90s and I envy her too because Elton‘s voice sounded the best up until the early 2000s…still a wonderful artist but I envy anyone who got to see him during his prime!
@@alecboyce1998 thanks Alec. If there is any footage, you should check out the shows he performed in the 80's at Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles. The 1st set, he performed solo, just he and the piano. The 2nd set, Percussionist Ray Cooper, joined him. These performances were incredible. So whether he played with his full band, or the 2 man gigs, he played, Elton John is one of the finest performers to ever grace a stage.
@@johnawad8710 I will check out the Universal amphitheater footage if I can find it, thanks! Hope I can find both sets; it’s always fun trying to go down a rabbit hole Looking for Elton John footage because his live concerts provide a treasure trove of hidden gems…I appreciate the suggestions John, keep enjoying good music!
This was my divorce song. My ex and I made it almost 13 years together, until we both realized neither one of us could make it work. Agreeing to split with her destroyed me, but i knew damn well there'd be no future for either of us, so in that regard, it was "no sacrifice at all." Sometimes the right thing to do is the hardest thing of all. Thanks for playing this.
Amo este comentario, yo me separé de la persona que pensé era la indicada para mí, la que pensé iba a ser mi esposa y me das esperanza de superarla, se que todo estará bien, mi mente me dice eso y le creo.
I can't tell you how excited I am that you're doing this underrated song, it's my all time favorite Elton song. Brings back so many memories. Maybe look at reacting to The One.
This is one of many Taupin/John classics. Such a beautiful lyric with Elton's voice. You can easily sing along or just close your eyes and drift along with the lyrics. Great reaction guys.
Amber thank you for talking about how the man danced with his little girl at the end. It always chokes me because, as you said, it does come full circle with his resolve to continue raising his daughter. It’s as though he is assuring all involved that he is taking his parenting duties seriously and not grudgingly. Beautiful.
This is easily my favorite Elton song from this period in his career. Always reminds me of my Mom, a single parent, and all the sacrifices she made for me. You've got to do "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word," "Someone Saved My Life Tonight," "Blue Eyes," and "Madman Across the Water."
Yes Yes Yes absolutely a fantastic song great that you finally got to it. Your next Elton reaction suggestion Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word also Island girl!!!!
I’ll bet your kids have watched the Disney movie, Lion King. Elton John was co writer of the soundtrack and also performed some of the songs. “Circle Of Life” and “Can You Feel The Love Tonight” are two that Elton recorded. 👍
Still another great song from Sir Elton John. Philadelphia Freedom,Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters and my favorite,Some one Saved my Life
You'll be surprised to hear that this was Eltons first solo number one in his home country!! June 1990!! After so many hits and so many years. Plenty more to delve into. Keep up the good work. Much love from England 🏴
What I love about you 2 is you are so real and so knowledgeable!! You are articulate what you like about the song so well. For someone who's already heard these songs to watch your reaction videos is a treat. Cuz sometimes we even learn something too. 😃 I just wonder why you haven't done any of my suggestions yet. Right now my top one would be, with the Elvis movie coming out, you guys should react to Elvis's Trying to get to you from his 68 comeback special!! I know you guys are done a bunch of Elvis before, but you haven't seen this! This is Elvis at his BEST!! You will love it!!
Elton John has a simple rule when writing songs, if you're stuck or having a hard time coming up with something, write a hymn. Sacrifice is one of those songs. "Candle In the Wind", his tribute to Marilyn Monroe, was editing when he sang it at Princess Diana'f funeral. "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is another great song in that genre. You can't go wrong with either of those.
"Sacrifice" is an incredible addition to Elton's "latter-years" catalogue. It was on his 22nd studio album, 1989's Sleeping with the Past. Elton actually wasn't sure about including it on the album, but he decided to put it on there. It was a Top 20 single in the US, but initially, it stalled at #55 in the UK, where admittedly, Elton hadn't had much chart success in the couple of years prior to then. However, in 1990, a UK radio DJ was in America on business and heard "Sacrifice" on the radio. He decided to put it into heavy rotation on his UK radio show. A re-released version of "Sacrifice", sharing double-A-side status with "Healing Hands" (another great song from that album that is undeservedly given less credit than his bigger singles) went to #1, the first time Elton had reached the #1 spot on his own in his own country (as was previously mentioned, his only other UK #1 was "Don't Go Breaking My Heart" in 1976). "Sacrifice" was the start of a new venture for Elton: he committed to donating his personal royalties from sales that single, and all future UK singles, to fund AIDS research. This was before he had started the Elton John AIDS Foundation. He later pledged his royalties for US singles as well. Admittedly, I'm not sure how that pledge works nowadays, as physical singles barely sell anything anymore, and the idea of a "single" in the digital realm is frankly laughable, given that anyone can buy any song individually that they want to, but Elton also does tons of other work for AIDS that gives the Foundation plenty of other revenue streams. "Sacrifice" gave new life to Elton's career as a charting singles artist in 2021, when Australian duo P'Nau remixed "Sacrifice" and three other Elton John songs (1972's "Rocket Man", 1983's "Kiss the Bride", and an obscure 1976 album track from Blue Moves, "Where's the Shoorah?") into a new track, "Cold Heart", which Dua Lipa also sang on. "Cold Heart" was Elton's first UK #1 single since 2003's re-release of "Are You Ready for Love" (that song in and of itself has a fascinating chart history), and it was his first time on the US Top 40 Singles Chart since 1999's "Written in the Stars" with LeAnn Rimes, peaking in the Top 10 at #7, which was his highest US chart placing since "Candle in the Wind 1997".
Sir Elton has had Big hits across his FIVE decade career. This is some of his best 80's. If you want some rockin' DISCO, check out "Philidelphia Freedom".
Iam a Huge Elton John fan. You've done several reactions but haven't even begun to touch on his awesomeness! Some more great songs to try that will give you more amazing vocals. Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word. Someone Saved my Life Tonight. Empty Garden(it's about John Lennon). Nakita, alot of people don't refer to that one much but it's great as well. Goodby Norma Jean(Marilyn Monroe ) then you have Candle in the Wind. Which is a retake on Norma Jean dedicated to Princess Diana. There is much more... Please keep reacting
There are so many great Elton John songs to choose from. I never even heard of this one. Check out Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Teacher I Need You, Blues for Baby and Me and High Flying Bird. Also, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding is epic!
Worked in a grocery store in early 90's and heard this song at least 4 times a day. Now you after that much and for 2 years you think I couldn't handle it. But let the truth be told, I was 19 then and 50 now and when I still hear this song it comforts me! Thanks Elton and Rob Squad!
Loving your hair Amber♥️ Elton John has and always will be my all time favorite along with Kenny Rogers! Someone mentioned "The One" that is also another great one to hear the pureness of his voice. Thank you both for giving me something to look for every evening. #SirElton
Amber, it looks like you started to get glassy eyed around the 4:45 mark and at the very end where I saw a tear under your left eye. Many of you probably don't know that Elton also did a duet with Kiki Dee in the '80's named 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart.' Many of you will like this one if you've never heard it before.
great analysis. it's pure elton's voice, and no piano flourishes on top of it as happens a lot. just his voice on top of a broad chord. brilliant, and great you all picking up on that.
Love this song so much! Sinead O’Connor recorded a cover of this song on the Tribute Album to Elton John…it’s AMAZING! A complete re-arrangement of the song in Sinead O’Connor style.
This is one of my favourites by Elton aswell! I just love his voice in this song and the melody. Just beautiful! Please do Something About The Way You Look Tonight and Can You Feel The Love Tonight next!
I was waiting for you guys to do this one! It’s in my top 5 Elton songs! This is actually one of his favourites too. It’s sort of a bookend to Your Song; Your Song is more about the joy in the relationship, while this song is more about the end of one. How you might try, but it just doesn’t work and it’s not really anyones fault. Oh and when the daddy is dancing with his daughter in the end of the video?? 😭 And Amber, your haircut is so cute!
Elton john is amazing. He's currently on his "Farewell" tour. 300 venue's in total, and then he's retiring. Now on his 70s, he wants to spend more time with his family. I think he's earned that. "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" is a beautiful song by Elton, that I also think you would love. ❤🎵🎙🇬🇧
Elton has hits from each decade. This train don’t stop from 2001 is great. The video has Justin Timberlake playing him in the video. Elton also did the songs in The Lion King
So many amazing hits the catalog is endless. Healing Hands, Empty Garden, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Believe, Blessed, Whispers, Club and the End of the Street it goes on and on
Elton made a number of appearances on the MUPPET SHOW, it really show cases his sense of humour. the costumes are outrageous and Elton singing with the muppets is hilarious , especially his duet with Miss Piggy( Don’t go breaking my heart). I watched these as a kid and they still make me smile.

This is one of Elton's best songs and is very personal to me because it 's one of my grandpa's favorite songs. Actually, this song was played at a 50th wedding anniversary event for my grandparents in January 2000. I tear up every time I hear this beautiful song. Also, have they reviewed any of Billy Joel's songs? He's also amazing with the piano (beyond iconic) and has some beautiful ballads such as "She's Got A Way", "Always A Woman" and one of his later ballads "Downeastern Alexa", which I heard was about his daughter, whose name is Alexa.
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters still reigns supreme and Elton says it’s one of his all time favorites. You need to do that one. And definitely do Empty Garden (Hey Hey Johnny), which he wrote for John Lennon after his death. There is a great live version of that from the Elton 60 Tour at Madison Square Garden in NYC that you can find, and he explains that he only ever sings that song when he plays MSG. And show some US love and do his Philadelphia Freedom on this coming 4th of July!! (And just as a fun aside, Hall & Oates did a cover version of that song for an album tribute to Elton John & Bernie Taupin.)
Saw him in Atlantic City New Jersey . He was amazing . Went way over the time and nobody left until he finished . Was unbelievable. I enjoyed every minute . Songs were great and also his outfits were beautiful .

This song was Elton's first UK number 1 single
Just curious if you have covered his duet with George Michael on “Don’t Let the Sun go Down on me”? They both sound AMAZING.
Yes!!! They really need to see that!!!
Sir Elton John is one of a kind..No doubt about it! I have ALWAYS loved Elton John..His music is beautiful!
"Madman Across the Water" is one of Elton's few songs that has a real edge to it. It's gooood!
Please play Ticking from Caribou, a dramatic piano/vocal story with some of Elton's best piano playing.
Loving your hair Amber♥️
Elton John has and always will be my all time favorite along with Kenny Rogers!
Someone mentioned "The One" that is also another great one to hear the pureness of his voice.
Thank you both for giving me something to look for every evening.
#SirElton
Daniel is another good one....
Amber, it looks like you started to get glassy eyed around the 4:45 mark and at the very end where I saw a tear under your left eye. Many of you probably
don't know that Elton also did a duet with Kiki Dee in the '80's named 'Don't Go Breaking My Heart.' Many of you will like this one if you've never heard it before.
great analysis. it's pure elton's voice, and no piano flourishes on top of it as happens a lot. just his voice on top of a broad chord. brilliant, and great you all picking up on that.
"Empty Garden" is a must! The raw emotion in his voice in this tribute to John Lennon is truly amazing. Candle in the Wind also.
I love him. Such an amazing musician. I love" I guess that's why they call it the blues". But there are so many. Can't really choose a favorite.
You can't go wrong with Elton. One of my faves of his is "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word".
"Empty Garden (Hey, Johnny)" and "Believe" are my two personal favorite Elton John songs.
It's been literally decades since I've heard this song. I was too young to appreciate it then, but boy is it beautiful to listen to now.
This song plays in my country all the time norther have a remix
Love this song so much!
Sinead O’Connor recorded a cover of this song on the Tribute Album to Elton John…it’s AMAZING! A complete re-arrangement of the song in Sinead O’Connor style.
This is one of my favorite Elton songs. Keep diving into him. Try "Someone Saved My Life Tonight", "Daniel", and "Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word".
Madman Across the Water, Razor Face, Skyline Pigeon… so many Elton styles and songs to find!
'Sacrafice' was always one of my favourite Elton songs....
...right up there with 'Grey Seal'...
This is one of my favourites by Elton aswell! I just love his voice in this song and the melody. Just beautiful! Please do Something About The Way You Look Tonight and Can You Feel The Love Tonight next!
The whole song is beautifully arranged , it's not just his voice.
Yayyyy, this was my recommendation. Thank you!!!! 💜 You'll also love his song "The One".
I haven't heard this song in a while and it's just beautiful and with Elton singing it makes it more beautiful ❤😢
This and Mona Lisas an Mad Hatters are my favorite Elton John songs but the most important song he did was "Last Song" about Aids
And Amber, your haircut is so cute!
Absolutely must do the duet he did with George Michael: "Don't let the sun go down on me". Major goosebumps provider!
So many amazing hits the catalog is endless. Healing Hands, Empty Garden, Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding, Believe, Blessed, Whispers, Club and the End of the Street it goes on and on
another lovely song by Elton John is Nikita
Elton is my favorite singer/ song writer of all time …. His songs are breath taking!
Not only genuine... truly gifted.

This was Eltons first UK solo number 1
Elton John was my first concert, and it was the tour for this particular album.
Great pic. always gives me chills ! ❤️❤️🌹🌹🤟🏼🐇
Once again I'm suggesting the song TONIGHT. Such a great emotional song of when love grows cold.
THIS SONG IS THE 1990 AND YOUR SOUND IS PERFECT, THE ELTON ´S VOICE IS INCREDIBLE.
100% my favourite Elton song. Loved it the first time I heard it and love it listening now for the thousandth time.
Saw him in Atlantic City New Jersey . He was amazing . Went way over the time and nobody left until he finished . Was unbelievable. I enjoyed every minute . Songs were great and also his outfits were beautiful .
