    It's difficult finding remains from over 100 years ago, but what we did find was pretty interesting. I think this area has more to be uncovered...

      Historicalaerials shows that something was where that dam looking structure was in 1969 which is as far back as it would go in that area. There is another creek directly behind that embankment.

    • @rxc640
      @rxc640 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there's also the Edgerton cavern (and nearby, bolts into small stone foundations) and the air shaft. Also, the old waterwheel to clean the creek.

    • @rxc640
      @rxc640 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, I saw that on Historicalaerials also. @@D3M3NT3Dstrang3r

      Looking at Topo maps from 1944 and prior show the Delaware and Hudson Canal (rail) going over that embankment/dyke you were walking over and heading north. Modern topo maps call it Old Mining Road 3. As it heads due North from where you last were, it splits where Route 6 and Meredith Street route split. Both 6 and Meredith appear to be in the same location as the old rail bed, which makes sense. The Meredith line goes into Carbondale, the other heads into Honesdale, etc.., there is a lot of info on this. But the maps for the Delaware and Hudson only show it going to Carbondale - you need to look at the pre 1944 maps to see the actual part of the rail that heads south of Carbondale to Archibald. From where you are at the dyke the rail goes south and it looks like Hill Street in Archibald is the rail bed that eventually goes into Archibald and merges with a bunch of other rail stuff. I am just following maps, I am not a historian at all. Thanks again for showing the maps and locations. No indicators of Edgerton.

    At 5:38, I am most sure that's where the portable generator was stored. This was a big party spot. They had a shelter here with a lot of lights. I actually saw them partying on my way to the geocache. They moved the party spot to Archbald now. I think it was called the Carbondale Township Sportsman Club. That's what all those lines/circle looking objects with a white speck in the middle are.

    That last part could have been a train grade. If they were taking coal out by train, they would have built it up to level instead of going down and back up. The reservoir was really cool. The building was an awesome find. Makes sense that you would filter the water before running it through the pipes. 💙 Can't wait for you to go back out there in the winter.

Favorite finds: The pretty little waterfall and the step falls, too! Loved the gorgeous scenery all the way through, and the filtration house was really cool! JP - the dam levy at 1:25:48 was built in the 70's by the Army Corps of Engineers. it was all part of the Aylesworth Creek Lake flood protection project after the flooding from Hurricane Diane in 1955. in case of a catastrophic flood - the main Aylesworth dam is designed to hold back water up until around that area where the levy is before water goes over the spillway. that levy just gives the main dam some extra protection. I was only though there once but didn't make it to the reservoir - might have to take a hike up there soon. great video

    I don't know how far you go to explore but I have a recommendation for you. There's many "ghost towns in the Black Hills of SD. One that's fun is Galena. They've restored some of the buildings but there's still a lot to explore. The cemetery has so many stories to discover. There a markers dating back to the Civil War. So much to learn and discover all over the Black Hills 😊

    At 1:12:04, if I remember correctly from the book, there was something down there to do with the town.
    At 1:12:41, the breaker and the cavern were/are up there. Not too far above the cavern are more small things to see.
    At 1:14:22, that is were the breaker was.
    At 1:15:44, the cavern is up there with a geocache inside from 2002.

    Also the fire hydrant that may be tapped into one of those water mains that runs down from that Reservoir probably the one that's not running, I remember there were two valve stations up there but only one pipe was showing down through the landscape unless the other pipe was heading in a different direction, you were mentioning how you followed a pipeline in another video, I think it would be really cool to come back to this place and follow that Pipeline and see where that goes Because by the looks of it and the flow of water through it it is still active and it will be coming out somewhere.

    Hey Jay
    WOW, what an amazing video. There was a lot of beautiful scenery along the journey. The reservoir is such an awesome place. Not for sure obviously, but I'm thinking the cul-de-sac with the flags and fire hydrant may have been a campsite at one time hence the reason for the sign to take your trash with you. It was a long video, and I sadly admit, that I closed my eyes for a few minutes since I was watching later in the evening, but it certainly wasn't out of bordism. I truly loved the adventure and am blessed to have had the opportunity to have come along with you. Will be watching for the next video. Until then stay safe and God bless.

    It looks like that concrete block little structure with the roof on it is a place where somebody could stick a generator to sit and whatever that cord is plugged into it, or it's somehow a place for a water pump, but I think it might be for a generator, a structure like that definitely would make it quieter. And that pipe that is still buried in the ground with the section of it washed further down, I believe those are old steel tanks converted into culverts, that was very common back in the early 1900's where they used to reuse tanks and turn them into culverts cuz it was cheaper than buying Calvert's.

    At 53:35, the area is pretty much the same over the years except for the party spot. I think there was even a refrigerator there! There were 2 outhouses-one labeled "bucks" and the other "does".

    💙 Absolutely enjoyed watching his video and all of your videos to the end. WOW, what an awesome find, the building at the reservoir was is great condition, could imagine seeing it working in hits hay day. It's such a shame to see towns just disappear, can only imagine who lived there and what the town was like when it was still standing and very much a bustling mining town.

    JP, Watched the hole video, all railroad videos, rail trail videos, watch them all, can't get enough, doesn't matter how long, let me look for the blue heart, when I watch on my smart TV, can't leave a comment, need to go to phone or computer. But always give you like, wish I was there to help you explore this territory to find the old town ruins, this adventure is where it was good to bring 4 people and each take an area to explore... can't find the blue heart, so is a red one ❤ blue heart, where is it, oh well, will just enter blue heart 😊💙💙found it haha

    I wonder if that little building in the woods u found is either a gate house for the gate or a little guard house for the gate 💙

    • @JPVideos81
      @JPVideos81  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Since it's relatively close to the gate, it may have been used with it. 💙

    I was back there a few years ago, and where the flag pole is, if you look into the woods facing south, there were several parts of old buildings

    What a great location and explore. The last spot, the "levie", I think may have been for a level railroad spur for removing the coal. 👍🤙

      There are no wild "water moccasins" (cottonmouths) in PA - their range is much farther south. Sunny is a beautiful Northern Water Snake - nonvenomous and nothing to be afraid of! JP, you will come to love snakes yet!!!
