I wouldn't personally pick Scholar for being in the lead. I don't know if I COULD pick a lead but the thing that keeps Scholar out of it for me is being the only healer where having two of them WILL cause some problems. White mages regens stack, Astros can vary their stance, Scholars will heal subparly while their shields collide with eachother. They are GREAT with any other healer along side them. But Scholars working together will find themselves wanting to stab eachother as they both waste a shield, or excog, or crit buff.(though technically excogs stack they tend to heal so much that its still a waste to have two on someone aside from a health boosted warrior)
It wasn't always like this, in v2 it's range was much shorter, so v2 whms like myself never really used it that much. Once they increased the range for it we just needed to get used to it again, but always found ourselves used to spamming medica
It's still 6y, healing radius, which is still short all things considered. It just so happens that Asylum has the same 6y radius AND a circle marker, which can help you learn how far 6y is.
I dunno. I just aim better with my body for medica/medica 2 than predictive healing for the Tank/MDPS movements. And since Cure 3 excludes the other half, I rarely use it over Medicas. I literally have to see a pure melee party to think it useable.
This is Tom You can extend any of our buffs including potions :) You can also extend all buffs at the same time, if they are currently activated. The skill is very strong and fun to play with.
Indeed, very precise description the one you made about Scholar. This one can be an AWESOME healer/supporter job, but the skill level needed for this is super high. White Mage is way easier to play reasonable well. But, being a high skill level job, the satisfaction you have when you play it right is great. SCH is a job that make you feel overpowered, when you play well, but also slaps you in the face and call you a bitch, when you play bad... hahahaha... love this!
I'd say that as far as learning to heal always go white mage, scholar, then astro. Which oddly enough is the order they can be unlocked. Because the basic skills or white mage can be applied to the other to. With Scholar it helps one learn to dps a bit more and skill usage more. Plus is forgiving at lower levels with the pet. And Astro it is all about rng and using the cards properly plus healing and dpsing and skill usage. After leveling all 3 though to 70. I'll stick to my white mage. Probably always will, unless dancer is amazing if it ever comes out as a healer.
Just glad WHM is so well balanced in stormblood it's my preferred healer, same with tanks PLD was always my favourite but now it actually feels strong.
Love machine gun blm with enhanced arrow. Two second fire 4s. My brother has 2k spell speed on his blm and its fun just watching him go nuts. Love astrologian for things like that.
I know this is a old video. But I really do enjoy The scholar. The class likes to play as a buff maintenance class. You have your four dots to maintain, and your Shields. Keeping these up allow you to focus more on damage
1. White mage 2. Astrologian 3. Scholar White mages are the only class with a spell that heals 100%. Scholar for lower level dungeons and trials are limited on healing abilities sometimes being limited to physick being the only cure spell. I started with scholar as my first healer class I had a hard time but I think that was because I jumped from black mage to dark knight then to scholar. Astrologians stay well rounded through many dungeons on lower dungeons they don’t have access to their cards (whose honestly gonna complain about that though?) but choosing between the sects in a trial and raid really depends on their healing partner. He didn’t annotate this in the video but if an astrologian is partnered up with a scholar then they need to be in diurnal sect because nocturnal sects barriers cannot be stacked with scholars galvanize. Apologies to any upset healers from my comment lol
@Mrhappy1227 at 6:52 there's a correction I would like to make if not already made. It's not sic that you use to control your pet's actions, it's obey. Sic allows the pet to use all their abilities whenever they would like to while the player has no control. Obey only allows them to use their most basic action, I.E. a basic heal in this case, on their own or when you tell them to use it among their other abilities.
Scholar also has that spell that removes the absorb shield on succor and adds it to the healing, combined with their aetherflow aoe heal, they do have a pretty strong burst heal.
Missed a few things on Astro, one of the most potent and powerful heals is that hot that collective unconscious gives, and that it can be extended by celestial opposition. It's a completely free combo that will max out a full party when used correctly, and the hot is powerful enough to keep up with sections with consistent high damage aoe. The other was that ast has a lot more potential healing with a coordinated group and a decisive healer. Their spells, particularly the aoe ones, are more powerful if used with the correct timing. The problem is that players need to place or use the spells either preemptively or at times they won't be interrupted to maximize the potential healing the party will receive. Conditions met though and you'll expend very little mp and have a raid or party completely full at all times. Also a con you missed is that the ast either requires two sets of gear or you're not going to get the best out of either sect if you split the difference. Diurnal is far better when spell speed is applied and noct is more crit reliant. Neither really benefits from the other stat, which puts the player in an awkward position, pick a sect to power up first, but give up on having gear for the other (at least until you've finished the first set) or just be mediocre at both but be able to switch whenever.
Really wish it wasn't so but I gave up on white mage after maining it since 2.0. They gutted the job in 4.0 and I personally can't stand the Lily system. It's a selfish and underwhelming mechanic that can be completed ignored without much consequence. It's true that White mage has plenty of raw power but that's all it has anymore. I find Astro immensely more fun and interesting to play nowadays. Plus earthly star is so damn satisfying to use.
As a healer main, I gotta say.. Yep. I absolutely love healing in this game because of how well done the three healing classes are, and how balanced they are while still being so incredibly unique. I feel like all three of them can compete rather well with eachother - as well as work amazingly well alongside eachother - and they all provide a different kind of healing style which can help satisfy people regardless of what kind of healers they are. I personally main AST, cause I love the card buffs and how adaptive the class is - I choose my sect based on what co-healer I have, to back them up as best I can, which really makes me have to have a broader type of playstyle. But I also love the WHM and the SCH and how incredibly well they perform, as they are great classes to play when I want to change how I'm playing and yet still be providing the same level of support for my party. Before FFXIV I never really got into healing, cause I felt it was very unrewarding and stressful, and you're generally quite underappreciated, so I just couldn't be bothered with it, but once I stepped into the healer role in this game it just completely changed my entire view on healing. And now I absolutely *love* playing healer! SE did amazing on their healing classes.
Back in ARR I felt i was getting pretty good with SCH. While most groups didn't really notice, when i was raiding the WHM always would message me letting me know how much easier i made there lives and they couldn't believe it. SCH is the unsung hero.
I love playing SCH. Especially when you program macro skills for specific occasions so that your Eos can cast the right spells at the right time. Put it on Obey and manage it will macros and youll have a blast. Im sure id have fun as any healer but SCH has enough to always keep me busy, and in lower content i can literally play as DPS and have Eos play healer alone.
been enjoying SCH and can pretty much agree that I feel like my DoTs feel good to utilize and spread, while dishing out barriers before big attacks. Such a fun job, and I always love having a WHM in the party just to have HoT and barriers at the same time.
a con that you didn't mention for scholar: doesn't play well with other scholars--none of their buffs or secondary effects stack--they just overwrite each other, and nothing rustles someone's jimmies like having their crit adlo replaced by some punk's normal one. you also can't affect the other scholars effects either (for example you cant use deployment tactics the other scholar's adlo shield). also, i expected at least a mention of death recovery in the "screw ups hurt bad" section, since if you die (especially while aetherflow is on cooldown!), you're going to be basically useless, since both summon eos, resurrect, and to a lesser extent succor are super expensive MP-wise, and you wont have stacks to give the party enough breathing room to establish a proper foothold again (or any instantcast oh shit buttons if something unfortunate happens while you're getting everyone back up). also! i didn't hear any mention of the eye-for-an-eye synergy with SCH's deployment tactics, which is an unexpectedly helpful source of damage reduction in big pulls.
I'm pretty sure crit/higher adlo's aren't replaced by ANY normal adlo. I've been in instances where a second SCH has had better gear than me, and when I've cast adlo, it just says "no effect" or something. Same for Succor. The highest shield always stays. Death and recovery are pretty equal between WHM and SCH, they both have 2 ways to restore/save MP. Lucid Dreaming, Thin Air. Don't forget SCH can take Lucid Dreaming now too, + Aetherflow. AST might struggle a bit more as they can't rely on getting Ewer cards.
I would like to point out, however that the Nocturnal Field effect and Galvanize effect DO overwrite each other regardless of how powerful the previous one was. Even if you crit and adlo, if I use aspected benefic it will rewrite it always. Same thing in reverse. Which super sucks if the Ast forgets to change stances before pull.
Thank you for the video. I think you messed up on WHM. WHM has Regeneration and Divine Benison. These two skills can target players who are NOT part of your party. This means in an alliance setting, I can target the main tank with both skills even if the tank is not in my party. Try the following: 1) Bring Six White Mages into an Alliance Setting 2) Have each White Mage cast regen on the main tank. 3) If all six stack, then you have 150 Cure Potency x 6 = 900 Cure Potency (the same as two Cure IIs every 3 seconds). If you still want to add more... Have the White Mage in the party of the main tank cast Asylum (as that heals only those in the party) and use Divine Benison on the main Tank. Still need more? Largesse works on Regeneration, while the tank's Convalescence works on regen too. White Mage also has no downtime in recovering from death. If I die and then am Revived.... The following is my procedure: 1) Instant Tetra on myself 2) Benediction on main tank (or other healer) if health is below 25% 3) Use Lucid Dreaming + Presence of Mind + Thin Air + Swiftcast + Raise (on a dead player) 4) Start Spamming Medica I, Medica II, Cure IIIs and do not forget about Assize. 5) If you must cast one final spell BEFORE all of this wears off... Cast a Raise as it will retain its cast speed and 0 MP Cost Not only are you emergency healing (as being dead meant the party was down a healer and now you have to make up for your time dead), but you are recovering MP pretty fast that by the time all of this wears off, your MP is at healthy levels, and the party's health is at healthy levels too.. My point: White Mages have amazing recovery from death, and are able to work together to the point they can minimize the MP used to heal a player due to how Regeneration Stacks together. When players are overgeared and know what to do, one does not need shields or extreme party utility... Heal over time is actually enough to keep a party alive. Don't believe me? Start low... Start in Four Man Content with an Overmelded white mage and you will see that 90% of the time you are going to keep players alive through using your HoTs and oGCDs when healing overgeared players. In fact. There are maps in which I do not use a single cure I or cure II to keep a tank healed. What about Solo? Try running almost any map undersized and with high spellspeed and your most used spells are going to be Aero II, Aero III, and Regeneration. Want to give me an endgame Savage healer comparison? Sure! I am all ears at hearing about how well healers perform in 1% of the content. ^_^
My problem with the AST Nocturnal sect and the scholar shields is that they eat MP so very quickly. That I would consider a drawback of both classes, as the HoT is usually pretty efficient and more efficient they trying to keep shields on the tank in normal dungeons. As a rule I tend to keep AST on Diural for the hots and only switch for bosses, which the shields don't break quite as fast and help keep the tank up in. But considering how fast tanks can die in regular dungeons, I would argue that the scholar actually has the hardest time as a solo healer over the other two. Which is a fair point considering that as a healer 90% of the time you probably will be solo.
Had a friend who mained WHM like there was no tomorrow; Threw it in the trash for DRK the moment he saw the flower system. I thought it was a bit of an overreaction.
In the video you say “Sic gives you control over the fairy,” but it’s obey I would say that scholars biggest perk is macroing fairy heals, which is really useful for 24 man fights when the tank isn’t in your group. Basically you dps while you macro a fairy heal to dps action to heal the target of target.
We need the DPS comparisons soon. Been waiting patiently for the stormblood editions. My vote is for the ranged DPS one. Love to see how Bard/Machinists compare now
Personally I found scholar the most intimidating because choosing between the fairies felt intimidating..idk I'm a very indecisive person so that's probably why lmao. I'd been maiming White Mage the whole game until getting to heavenward and deciding to main astrologist mostly for lore and aesthetics XD now I just need to level it up to carry on with the story
Fairly new to the game and I am a white mage. (Started Late Jan 2018) I really love it. I've picked up Astro and the cards are just delightful. Deciding who gets what buff on the fly is another form of triage which I am used to when trying to make quick healing decisions in other games where I played a healer, so fun! I actually feel intimidated looking at Scholar. Arcanist is only lvl 14 right now lol. Thanks for this video I really enjoyed listening to strengths and weaknesses.
I'll always be main whm but I also enjoy other healers as I am mainly prefer healing. But, scholar suits me the least though. So for me it would go as whm>ast>sch but I still like all healers
as someone that mains astrologian, here's some more downsides to it: - Quite hard to heal with for progression as they don't have that oshit aoe heal like assize, aside from maybe earthly star but that skill still isn't instant as you need to put it down first. Astro's max potential comes forward when the player already knows the fight very well. - mp management can be a huge bitch sometimes.
Pet power on sch gets lost if you don't micro manage it. Put the fairy on steady and obey, it will heal your party members while they are bellow 60% hp, combo it's other abilities to maximize healing potential.
After playing WHM for all of HS I switched to AST for stormblood. Although the WHM can pump out the healz, and never runs out of mana I felt like they were a bit slow when unexpected healing was needed example DPS standing in bad lol I felt the AST toolkit was extremely balanced they also have an answer for everything oh shiz moment Lightspeed, tankbuster essential dignity and with the Redraw ability the RNG nature of cards can be controlled to some extent. I love it it's so fun just fighting in the chaos and creating buffs for your party and then just going here I brought buffs to the party lol I fell in love immediately
Great video but I personally feel you could go deeper and analyze the main healer versus off healer potential differences just like you did with the tanks. Will appreciate if you could update and add this as I am very curious to hear your opinions especially based on your raiding experiences. Thank you.
Janice Kuan I feel like that dichotomy between main and off healers can stifle efficiency in the long run. For example, if a raid wide aoe goes out and the SCH can simply use Indom to take care of it versus the WHM or AST hardcasting a group heal, then that should be done. But what if the WHM already has medica 2 ticking from a previous aoe and assize is coming off cooldown, or the AST has earthly star ready to go? Then perhaps the SCH should spend his aetherflow on an excogitation for an impending tankbuster or something more efficient. I understand why we lean toward main and off healing; it is reassuring knowing who is taking care of xyz. However, open communication and equal responsibility lets both healers shine at their brightest. Sorry for the wall of text.
i don't see the point in splitting healers kits to off heal people healers should be utilizing their whole kits in the long run to maintain efficiency and to make sure things go smoothly as possible.
although I agree that all three all do their jobs well, I always felt like scholar was slightly ahead. between all the shields that it can give, the faerie autoheal and abilities and now excog, you could weave in dps without a care in the world. but yeah being able to dps aside my main gripe with the other jobs is the lack of utility of whm and that rng of astro literally pulled 5 spires in a row against a boss.
if you're new to FF XIV, is it safe to instantly go a healer class and learn the game as you learn your class (plus ofc learning the mechanics of bosses in dungeons etc), or is that too risky and it's better to take a DPS class first, learn the game, THEN take a healing job?
I've been leveling WHM since I started and it's honestly a breeze. Your only objective is to stand back and heal/esuna your party. There isn't much going on in earlier dungeons so you're just healing when you need to, it's reactionary. When you get extra spells, it's not hard to find out the ideal time to use 'em and you're usually able to try them out with every new dungeon you unlock. I haven't played SCH or AST yet, but it's probably as he says; they're harder to learn since the roles are more complex than WHM's. Gotta be more than a healing machine. I say go for the healing class. If you're worried about what you need to be prepared for when tackling bosses, quickly look up a summary online or trial-and-error it. The latter can be pretty fun lol
@@apollinarian awesome, thanks! and yeah, my plan was to start with White Mage (just to get the hang of FF healing and learn how to counter the higher level bosses) and then go Astrologian as my main healer. I'm also really interested in the Dancer class, but luckily that class has less direct responsibility so I'm more at ease with it I've been playing Archer (now 23) so I'll probably get him to Bard first, then give WHM a shot. thanks for the feedback! :D
Good. Now that we have achieved healer balance can SE please now give us a new Healer, preferably dancer. I will drop Bard as a main if I get my Dancer healer.
To be honest, I don't see why. WHM, SCH and AST build a sort of triangle where each fills a role and they make each other complete. I just don't really see where you'd fit in another healer job without messing with that balance or the fourth one just feeling unnecessary.
I mean there are multiple reasons for why, the biggest being that healer mains would probably really like a new job to try out (if anything based on the complaints I've seen by so many of them and tanks talking about how they felt slighted that no new jobs were given to them and the balance that was the reason why they didnt get them was so poor when Stormblood came out). But there are more archetypes for healers that the dev team has not tried. There isn't yet a life steal or drain based healer in the game, nor is their one that is based primarily Heals over time (White Mage used to occupy that role but now they are pretty much the defacto burst healer). There is also one that could rely less on MP based healing and more on TP based healing, much like DRK for tank, and it would make sense if one like that would work as a Dancer which has always been more supportive in nature then it was about damage dealing in FF lore. But again, being scared to upset the balance of the current trinity is just not really a good reason to hold back from giving healers a new way to play the game, or tempt people who have never tried it because they dont like the current options available. FFXIV wants to have a very long life, and I think it would be pretty boring if they decided that they wanted to go 10-12 years with only adding one healer job.
If they bring another healer job to the roster, i think it will be geomancer. Some AST job quests in the game pointed to that possibility. Dancer, if they bring it to the game, i think it will be a dps class with focus on support, like the bard is.
Ani, they need to keep bringing other healers and tank jobs. If they don't do that, we will have even bigger problems with queue times, because the number of people playing with this roles will get lower and lower with the time passing.
SCH wins out versus AST except in situations that require long-term, party-wide and high healing output (all three of these at the same time, not individually). It has good burst healing but requires a specific resource to output it. Wide Balance only outvalues Chain Strategem if you draw Wide Balance and only Wide Balance over the course of the fight. This is because critical hits are very strong, and a big portion of jobs are safe to invest crit. Allowing those jobs to crit more, which in turn allows them to use their inflated crit multipliers via melding crit, at consistent intervals outvalues the double-gated RNG of Wide Balance unless you're extremely lucky. They're both quite strong, of course. SCHs healing is not bad by any means, as well as having a good MP economy due to a long variety of factors including Energy Drain, aetherflow's recovery and most of their actual healing done through OGCD ideally, but that last part is their weakness. Ideally, you'd want to take use of that value and gradually push out aetherflow-based healing to preserve your MP. In situations where you can't do that, SCH begins to lose its control on healing.
I was doing great as a SCH until I hit Wander's Palace (Hard) and couldnt keep everyone healthy. It's a class you def have to start optimizing as you tackle harder dungeons.
At lvl 70, SCH is my favorite healer but at levels lower than 50 it's my least favorite healer. I sometimes find it frustrating that almost all of SCH's best abilities are 60+.
Got capped white mage then tried astrologian and I'm hooked the card system is complex and I always have something to be doing I always felt like white mage had moments where I was just not doing anything or just pumping dps that was useless if the dps were doing a good job
Okay... I just learned that Lucid Dreaming can be affected by Celestial Opposition... THIS IS AMAZINGGGG!! I never knew omg :O Also, caster DPS: Should include Scholar. LMAO XD
Astro since they can give hots and strong aoe healing if they have a sch partner or strong shields if their partner is a whm PLUS many buffs for the whole party with cards. (im not an astro and i still see how awesome that is lol)
Between Free Cure, Tetragrammaton, Benediction, Assize, Plenary Indulgence, and Thin Air, Whm not only has a host of powerhouse cures, but they also have vastly more MP stamina than the other healers. MP consumption in long raids is always a problem for me with Ast and Sch. Not so with Whm. If you just want to consider which is the best "healer", it's Whm by a long shot. The other classes may offer better support or may be more fun for some. But Whm is the overall best at healing output. And while Sch's damage mitigation is good, Noct Ast not only does it better on average but also has a more diverse toolbox for both healing and support. I play and enjoy all three healers, and I've seen others play each of them effectively when I branch out to tank and dps. But I'd have to disagree with the assessment that they're all equal. When your party is getting hammered repeatedly by a boss, and you don't need support from your healer, you need healing, a Whm has the best tools for getting you through.
I would say scholar is the winner, because this class is a monster in mitigation, provides raid utility and offers good personal dps. Overall scholar is the strongest and works great with either healer. Furthermore the healer was in all ultimate kills as i recall, yet. That just shows how much the class offers and what value it has in the hardest content.
I don't think it's involvement in Ultimate Kills can say much about how powerful it is. As a SCH main, I'd prolly give my vote to AST but my vote is still close. AST provides a lot more raid util and a good AST does what a SCH can do but slightly better.
ShadowPayaso Scholar is used in every ultimate group, because it provides overall better mitigation, has way more personal dmg as an ast and it's raid utility isn't far behind, since chain is actually very strong. Stronger than most people believe. At the moment scholar doesn't seem to be replaceable in ultimate by an noct ast. At least you will have a much harder time going with noct ast/whm comp in the hardest content yet. Imo these kind of high skill level fight put those classes really to the test and scholar is atm in all the kill groups and this imo proves scholar is the strongest healer. Of course the fairy healer has its weak points, but i don't see WHM/n ast beating the scholar + whm/d ast comp anytime soon.
The reason SCH is used is more along with it's consistency, cuz an AST provides the same amount of mitigation if not more in Noct Sect. Dmg wise, WHM is on top of all 3 but it lacks raid util. AST has the best raid util but it lacks dmg and is super RNG, which is why you won't see it in Ultimates. Outside of the RNG, AST is the ideal healer.
You forgot RDM Those guys do more healing than most people, especially in ShinEx because Reiyuu heads are an alien concept for most people in this game.
I found WHM too boring to play even after the SB release and SCH just felt wrong for me after all those changes and I couldn't keep MP up or topped off like in HW. I ended up looking to AST and found I liked the balances for Solo or group healing, and the massive utility it possesses has made me feel a sense of freedom that was lost to me in SCH/SMN.
what heal is that at 0:49? i play whm a lot but that animation doesnt look familiar to me i mean i almost looks like benediction but it looks like he's casting it
As A Scholar main, I still have issues with dissipation, 60 skill removes fairy, yet 70 skill needs her, when they did the reworks I hoped they changed the 60 skill and add more interaction with the pet, however, now there's this discord which may be versatile, but looking at the spells, it makes no logical sense
I don't think I agree with your assessment that scholar has low burst healing. On the contrary, scholar has extremely good burst healing in the forms of emergency tactics (coupled with adlo or succor for the one hard cast you use) plus your choice of indom, lustrate (which can be cast rapidly in succession), and excog. You wouldn't want to do this, but in the perfect circumstances, a scholar has the capability to lustrate 9 times in a row (3 stacks, use aetherflow, dissipation for 3 more). The problem with scholar is more in its sustained healing capabilities--especially party wide. At least, in my opinion. A scholar that wants to get the most out of their aetherflow will also look to use it to increase their dps with it as much as possible, which would obviously lower the burst healing capabilities that you would have, since you'll burn aetherflow very quickly in order to energy drain. Either way, if the scholar is not a dps variety of scholar (which kind of hurts my soul, but whatever), then their burst healing is pretty through the roof.
This is where the real "disadvantage" (I'll explain the "" later) of the job resides. The limitation which the aetherflow mechanic impose to the player. If you use it to have a high dps output, you will, invariably, harm your healing capability. But you know what? this "disadvantage" is also one of the charms of the job, because it is one of the few jobs in this game that can give to the player a feeling of choice and consequence. A characteristc that is being nerfed over and over in this game.
That's the funny thing about the Lore of this job. It's supposed to be a support tactician of sorts. Every decision you make affects the outcome of the battle. SCH is such a good job and takes a lot of skill to master. Even if their heals don't feel as potent as AST or WHM they make up for it with the fairy healing an additional 2k to 4k healing on top of their own. SCH's fairies have an answer for almost anything that raid tiers throw at them. They have a regen, magic def buff and a spread convalesence for better healing output. Selene has good support for aoe esuna, silence and speed buff to abilities. Overall, all the healers are well balanced in their own way as Mr. Happy said. It's great to see how they are balanced to the job's lore.
Andy Chi caster wise: smn>=rdm>>blm (maybe rdm>smn due to some slight qol missing on the smn, otherwise smn is imo king atm, except if you play on ps4, sinc-ing the pet on ps4 is a bit HC)
Hmm my first healer class I played was scholar Thought it was fun an it said it had the highest dps compared to the other healers so i was like cool I'll go with that The dungeon I thought was a nice healer check was The Aurum Vale... When I first go in to a dungeon I always run DPS first to test the waters... All the healers I've had could not heal that dungeon So I gave it a shot I passed it on my first try... The tank I had did everything the other tanks did Why did it fail tho I knew all the mechanics that the guide told us to do but Couldn't understand why the other healers before me failed... an the healers that I had knew the mechanics too... But anyway I had alot of fun :3
I don't know why they took leeches, esuna, and the other one (forgot what it was called) they were actually really good now you have to decide either to put it on or not I feel they should put those back we need those I don't like the idea of having esuna as a role class skill that way we have more space for more skills too 😕
Two things not noted on Scholars are that when leveling a scholar, you're leveling two jobs at once, and deployment tactics also works on Eye for an Eye.
I love AST, it's the only healer I really played in FF14 and I ended up choosing it because of the cards. I generally don't like TCGs but the mini TCG you play while healing is so much fun.
Thanks for the video. I'm a big Final Fantasy fan but I have been hesitate about playing this game. My only concern is from my previous FFXI experience with the white mage job. After a while in the game it was very hard for me to find a party in FFXI to lvl. So I got stuck at around lvl 63 and was unable to progress as I really couldn't fight on your own. Is there a similar issue with FFXIV or have they found a way around this?
There's a lot of incentives for people to run low-level content, so it really isn't much of a problem. It's even less of a problem for the healing and tanking classes as they are always in higher demand then the DPS classes are (more people play DPS then Tanks/Healers). We're also at the beginning of an expansion right now, so there's lots of new people who are playing the game and doing the low-level content for the first time.
I used to main Scholar and I’ve been leveling it again and I just keep missing the ridiculous easy mode that is the white mages potencies in dungeons and stuff.
Sorry for the errors in speech/spelling. Definitely sped through the making of this a bit in anticipation of a busy weekend in Canada.
Mrhappy1227 hope you enjoy Toronto. Wish I could go it's only a couple hour drive away
all good bro you're only human
The Scholar is a good booster shot, not a total remedy.
Get in my country you! :)
WHM Protip: The radius on Cure 3 is the same as the radius on Asylum, so it's helpful to use Asylum to help train yourself on the Cure 3 radius.
that's actually really useful, thanks!
Lauren Hash man youve been missing out, Savage content right now pretty much requires cure 3, just have a group that knows what stacking is.
I dunno. I just aim better with my body for medica/medica 2 than predictive healing for the Tank/MDPS movements. And since Cure 3 excludes the other half, I rarely use it over Medicas. I literally have to see a pure melee party to think it useable.
I had no idea about extending lucid dream with astro, I just focused on increasing the duration on my card effects. thanks for the tip.
This is Tom You can extend any of our buffs including potions :)
You can also extend all buffs at the same time, if they are currently activated. The skill is very strong and fun to play with.
I try to throw lucid up every time I extend buffs. Feels like you can replenish your entire mp pool with it.
I tried all the healers and love playing them! But my heart will always go to White Mage 😊
Yayyyy :D
As someone who both usually prefers healers in MMOs and hasn't played through all of FFXIV, this was incredibly helpful! Thanks!
K But you can get SCH and WHM at the same time. 🤔 I was a scholar before white mage.
Ugh you just made me 'homesick' for XI DNC lol so thanks for that.
K id vote on going astro 1st its easier then sch and a got stepping stone to it
@@brooketaylor1084 same
I wish having more than 1 lily did something to improve benison. Not that I think it's bad, it just kinda sucks losing all 3 for the same effect.
I didn't realize how many abilities they have. It's a shame they are going to lose much of their arsenal.
just noticed you said "sic allows you to control what skills the fairy uses" when its obey that does that
My bad! I actually wrote obey and just winged Sic for some reason
no problem just thought i would mention it :D
was just about to point that out
obey gives you full control over them, sic puts them on autopilot
What did the pet say to the bad summoner / scholar? "you make me sic"
Matthew Dorman ba dum tss
Astrologian FTW!
Space Wizards Unite
too bad they nerfed the gameplay to make it less fun and more tideous
Agreed, love all 3 in 4.0.
1. White mage
2. Astrologian
3. Scholar
White mages are the only class with a spell that heals 100%. Apologies to any upset healers from my comment lol
scholar is number one now stop it -.-
@Mrhappy1227 at 6:52 there's a correction I would like to make if not already made.

"Individual abilities feel week"
> week
mike you have one job.
Aleph I don't feel so alone anymore. Lol
I died reading this, LMFAO.
like 7 days.
Val l You should do what you want to do because the point of video games is having fun.
For me, WHM felt slower than the other two healer classes and is kinda boring. But it's a good healer to learn the role
Thank you for this video! That was very useful!!
Chain stratagem increase rate by 15% percent not 20% got nerf in which target takes crit hits for 15secs
I love playing SCH. Especially when you program macro skills for specific occasions so that your Eos can cast the right spells at the right time. Put it on Obey and manage it will macros and youll have a blast.
Im sure id have fun as any healer but SCH has enough to always keep me busy, and in lower content i can literally play as DPS and have Eos play healer alone.
same here! at lower content dungeon, i trust my eos to do all the healing ;)
All three healers are pretty balanced, but SCH + AST is still the best healer combo for speed kills.
been enjoying SCH and can pretty much agree that I feel like my DoTs feel good to utilize and spread, while dishing out barriers before big attacks.
Such a fun job, and I always love having a WHM in the party just to have HoT and barriers at the same time.
Or just two ASTs. ;)
ah, Dueling, or so I'm told
Scholar with that crit buff is just too yummy. As a BRD Maaaain i love it.
XMegaJuni same goes for the astro spear. Love it!
XMegaJuni Scholars for lyfe!
I prefer Spear from Astrologian, because the Skill allow me to Target anything and i got more ( a lot ) Buff time.
Spear is random though, Chain Stratagem isn't.
a con that you didn't mention for scholar: doesn't play well with other scholars--none of their buffs or secondary effects stack--they just overwrite each other, and nothing rustles someone's jimmies like having their crit adlo replaced by some punk's normal one. you also can't affect the other scholars effects either (for example you cant use deployment tactics the other scholar's adlo shield).
also, i expected at least a mention of death recovery in the "screw ups hurt bad" section, since if you die (especially while aetherflow is on cooldown!), you're going to be basically useless, since both summon eos, resurrect, and to a lesser extent succor are super expensive MP-wise, and you wont have stacks to give the party enough breathing room to establish a proper foothold again (or any instantcast oh shit buttons if something unfortunate happens while you're getting everyone back up).
also! i didn't hear any mention of the eye-for-an-eye synergy with SCH's deployment tactics, which is an unexpectedly helpful source of damage reduction in big pulls.
Which super sucks if the Ast forgets to change stances before pull.
tbf if astro would have SCH or WHM dps astro would be THE healer so to keep it balanced its all gud imo
Astro can celestial Opp their cleric stance for extended dps. Though their dps is still lacking. But it's worth mentioning.
Iv'e never played a healer before.(Black Mage main) I might try out White Mage after seeing this.
Love this vs. I’ve been needing this. Thank you so much bro
Why does everyone have so much more screen space than me? XD
Thank you for the video.
I think you messed up on WHM.
WHM has Regeneration and Divine Benison.
These two skills can target players who are NOT part of your party.
This means in an alliance setting, I can target the main tank with both skills even if the tank is not in my party.
Try the following:
1) Bring Six White Mages into an Alliance Setting
2) Have each White Mage cast regen on the main tank.
3) If all six stack, then you have 150 Cure Potency x 6 = 900 Cure Potency (the same as two Cure IIs every 3 seconds).
If you still want to add more...
Have the White Mage in the party of the main tank cast Asylum (as that heals only those in the party)
and use Divine Benison on the main Tank.
Still need more? Largesse works on Regeneration, while the tank's Convalescence works on regen too.
White Mage also has no downtime in recovering from death.
If I die and then am Revived....
The following is my procedure:
1) Instant Tetra on myself
2) Benediction on main tank (or other healer) if health is below 25%
3) Use Lucid Dreaming + Presence of Mind + Thin Air + Swiftcast + Raise (on a dead player)
4) Start Spamming Medica I, Medica II, Cure IIIs and do not forget about Assize.
5) If you must cast one final spell BEFORE all of this wears off... Cast a Raise as it will retain its cast speed and 0 MP Cost
Not only are you emergency healing (as being dead meant the party was down a healer and now you have to make up for your time dead), but you are recovering MP pretty fast that by the time all of this wears off, your MP is at healthy levels, and the party's health is at healthy levels too..
Remember when White Mage was supposed to be dead?
To be fair that was before they made changes. I don't think anyone thought that WHM would be dead forever because patches were inevitable
But then they buffed it so it wasn't dead?
When does the community not overreact?
Had a friend who mained WHM like there was no tomorrow; Threw it in the trash for DRK the moment he saw the flower system. I thought it was a bit of an overreaction.
Ask pepperidge farms
Love astro it's my main heal class
In the video you say “Sic gives you control over the fairy,” but it’s obey
I would say that scholars biggest perk is macroing fairy heals, which is really useful for 24 man fights when the tank isn’t in your group.
So for me it would go as whm>ast>sch but I still like all healers
as someone that mains astrologian, here's some more downsides to it:
- Quite hard to heal with for progression as they don't have that oshit aoe heal like assize, aside from maybe earthly star but that skill still isn't instant as you need to put it down first.
Thank you for this vid.
I was just trying to decide which healer to level up.
Sorry for the wall of text.
i don't see the point in splitting healers kits to off heal people healers should be utilizing their whole kits in the long run to maintain efficiency and to make sure things go smoothly as possible.
although I agree that all three all do their jobs well, I always felt like scholar was slightly ahead. between all the shields that it can give, the faerie autoheal and abilities and now excog, you could weave in dps without a care in the world. but yeah being able to dps aside my main gripe with the other jobs is the lack of utility of whm and that rng of astro literally pulled 5 spires in a row against a boss.
at around 7min you said use "sic" to directly command them, it should be "obey"
Play them all, SCH is actually my favorite.
if you're new to FF XIV, is it safe to instantly go a healer class and learn the game as you learn your class (plus ofc learning the mechanics of bosses in dungeons etc), or is that too risky and it's better to take a DPS class first, learn the game, THEN take a healing job?
I'm also really interested in the Dancer class, but luckily that class has less direct responsibility so I'm more at ease with it
I've been playing Archer (now 23) so I'll probably get him to Bard first, then give WHM a shot. thanks for the feedback! :D
If they don't do that, we will have even bigger problems with queue times, because the number of people playing with this roles will get lower and lower with the time passing.
thats one of the things i thought SCH should have had, a meaningful DPS rotation while they pump out instant cast heals and shields when they need to.
Don't worry about RNG with the Astro if you have the....heart of the cards!
I think i've seen more people pick and request SCH and AST as of recent. WHM for HW for quicker and safer runs. SB is definitely a SCH class.
I was doing great as a SCH until I hit Wander's Palace (Hard) and couldnt keep everyone healthy. It's a class you def have to start optimizing as you tackle harder dungeons.
I absolutely did not expect this result.... well, guess it just confirms that I should be leveling all of my healers
At lvl 70, SCH is my favorite healer but at levels lower than 50 it's my least favorite healer. I sometimes find it frustrating that almost all of SCH's best abilities are 60+.
"Celestial opposition" sounds badass
The best thing about scholar is youre leveling summoner in the meantime.
also ast rng gets manageable at 70 with sleeve draw
AST 4 Life former WHM main
Are you gonna have a vs video for the melle ranged and magical dps? Would love to hear your thoughts on it couldnt find a vid on your channel.
Awesome video. Though I am curious where Dragoon sits now that they had that somewhat recent buff.
I never knew omg :O
Also, caster DPS: Should include Scholar. LMAO XD
I agree with you im no healer main but i have all 3 healers on 70 and i like them all and do agree with the balancing on the healers feels good
Astro since they can give hots and strong aoe healing if they have a sch partner or strong shields if their partner is a whm PLUS many buffs for the whole party with cards.
6:53 Obey*, Sic makes your tank sick and than you need to heal them, on obey you control the skills with cooldowns.
Rhalgr did you just ASSUME scholars gender?!?!
Kirtko Bangz you've seen nothing :P
I am so happy SCH is in a good place now you have no idea. My main is good!
You forgot RDM
Those guys do more healing than most people, especially in ShinEx because Reiyuu heads are an alien concept for most people in this game.
I personally really like scholar for a first class plus has the bonus of having a good dps that lvls with it
I've mained WHM since the very beginning, and likely always will.
In the Healer match up he picked a SCH for the caster match up he picked SMN u guys see it now
what heal is that at 0:49? i play whm a lot but that animation doesnt look familiar to me i mean i almost looks like benediction but it looks like he's casting it
As A Scholar main, I still have issues with dissipation, 60 skill removes fairy, yet 70 skill needs her, when they did the reworks I hoped they changed the 60 skill and add more interaction with the pet, however, now there's this discord which may be versatile, but looking at the spells, it makes no logical sense
I haven’t played ff14 for a while BUT still interested to see if white mage will win or not :)
Now I'm just waiting for the DPS versus :)
Andy Chi
caster wise: smn>=rdm>>blm
(maybe rdm>smn due to some slight qol missing on the smn, otherwise smn is imo king atm, except if you play on ps4, sinc-ing the pet on ps4 is a bit HC)
I thought you were in my house for a second as I have the same plot lol
honestly never new emergency tactics works for succor as well,,,,,bless you indomnibility!
Where is this place you are using to demonstrate spell on dummy at 0:45 ?
Are you going to continue with the other classes? :x
Astrologian is the best ! :D
I feel that WHM are best for dungeon, AST are best for raids, and SCH is a jack of all trades. But SCH is still fun though
Starting out Final Fantasy, this helped me make a decision, thank you!
I generally don't like TCGs but the mini TCG you play while healing is so much fun.
i know this is kinda late. but maybe if you add their skill that you mention, it will be great. just some random suggestion. great content mate! :)
Came back to the game after like a year im scholar, but i never really mastered the job so i have to work on that, but I feel itll be well worth it.
Waiting on that DPS vs. I like this very informative.
I used to main Scholar and I’ve been leveling it again and I just keep missing the ridiculous easy mode that is the white mages potencies in dungeons and stuff.
I haven’t played a awhile, do you still have to do two classes to unlock a job? Like 30 conjurer and 15 archer to unlock white mage?
SevenSecondsArise no. They removed that. You still need the MSQ stuff though.
My major con for WHM....boring af to do solo quests with. Just spam stone and keep regen and aero up....
