      The Apple is why I have issue with Altair being called the smartest. He had access to something no one had in his time and it gave him centuries of knowledge advantage over anyone else. Just how much of the Codex is Altair's knowledge and how much came from what the Apple showed him?
      I do give him he's the one Assassin with the most willpower to not get corrupted by the Apple like so many others would but smartest is streching it for me.

Although Altair had the apple most of the time, reading the codex pages and seeing how he thought about things, the philosophical ideas and where he ultimately led the assassins was very wise in my eyes. I do agree that Evie is very smart, but I have to give it to Altaïr because he reformed the brotherhood, was a wise mentor and how his knowledge grew by studying the Apple of Eden is remarkable. Writing the Codex alone shows how smart he is and there is a reason he was a mentor for such a long time. You can’t take it for granted that he invented the Hidden Gun and how to use the Hidden Blade without chopping your finger off. The guy was as smart, if not as smart as Leonardo Da Vinci because you can’t forget that when it came to wisdom Ezio mostly relied on him. Altaïr only relied on himself.

    • @Matasuh
      @Matasuh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @sindri1447 ปีที่แล้ว

      I just can't give it to Altair cause of WHERE his wisdom seems to come from. He had decades to study the apple and the invention of the gun was something born from those privileges. He made scores of mistakes during his time. His reluctance to deal with Abbas caused him unbelievable grief as in the loss of everything he had worked for during his time leading the Brotherhood, the death of his son was directly caused by his inaction and then the death of his wife would have most likely been avoided if he had kept his cool and been the wise man we were supposed to view him as. Inaction and then acting on pure instinct is something I feel much of his life was colored by.
      Ezio in my eyes is the smartest Assassin.
      Sure, in his early days he clearly is brash, lustful and vengeful. He never listens and has the tendency to act way too hastily.
      He does however learn so damn much from every single one of his experiences. He's a fast learner. It's what I'd consider his biggest strength. How fast you learn is what I'd consider the standard of judging how smart an individual is. Over the course of his games he grows so much in terms of his intellect, wisdom and patience. He always maintains his willingness to learn. He learns to not listen to his every instinct. When to stay his blade. Yet, he never fails to take action when the situation calls for it. He's also resourceful and cunning. In fact I'd say he's more cunning than all of the protagonists so far have been. You can always count on him sidestepping the problem.
      Evie is runner up in my opinion.

    • @bugs1285
      @bugs1285 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sindri1447 He had the Apple to study and he learned a lot from it, but it’s not like the Apple puts the idea of the Hidden Gun in your head and it becomes so easy to invent afterwards. Leonardo da Vinci was definitely smarter than Ezio and had to figure out how to create these inventions and Altaïr did the same, albeit maybe with more time. From what I’ve seen Altaïr didn’t think it was wise to construct the Hidden Gun for he knew it could be abused by other members of the Brotherhood. That’s why he waited to construct it because he had no choice if he was to defeat Abbas. The construction of the library is also something you need to consider. He was always thinking far ahead and could see the big picture.
      I’m not saying Ezio is dumb, not at all. Ezio is very smart. He’s a natural leader by the time of Brotherhood, but he never accomplished anything as big as Altaïr did. Talking of privileges Ezio had many teachers, who taught him to be an Assassin the way Altaïr became an Assassin and Altaïr started that. When he first grew up he was indoctrinated only to do what Al Muslim told them to do. But he was able to break himself from that and learned on his own what the words ‘Nothing is true, everything is permitted’ truly means. He started the new brotherhood that every other brotherhood in the future based their ideology on.

      @@sindri1447 you confuse wisdom and knowledge with intelligence. Sure Altair had the Apple. But knowledge is worthless if you don’t know what to do with it. That’s what intelligence is. And Altair used the Apple and it’s knowledge to the fullest potential, he is the most intelligent assassin.
      Don’t confuse wisdom with intelligence, some of the greatest scientists weren’t wise about what they were discovering

  • @jbcatz5

    Got to give Arno credit for the Paris Mysteries and the Nostradamus riddles. Some main story missions play into this detective angle like figuring out who the poisoner was. He’s also got a point about disobeying the French Order, they were divided and tended to be ineffectual at dealing with the Templars, far too much to effectively temper Arno’s more impulsive nature. Both the Assassins and Templars were too caught up in their own internal politics to carry out their goals effectively, reflecting the social class conflict that characterised the revolution that is the backdrop to Unity.
    There are parts of Origins that show Bayek making connections, but unlike the Paris Mysteries the clues are indicated to you and the player isn’t the one making the conclusions, it’s ingame Bayek. Odyssey is similar in this mechanic, even though the Eagle Bearer isn’t technically an Assassin and exempt from the running. The dialogue tree does put more player choice in however, with different choices having consequences like the Spartan who you accuse of being the Cult member, the person who killed the town in the first episode of the Legacy of the First Blade and the murder investigation with Lyra in Judgement of Atlantis. It doesn’t change the overall story, but creates minor variations in later missions anyway based on your deductive skills (and thus the deductive skills of the Eagle Bearer).

    I think that Altaïr deserves credit for the fact that even before he got the apple he was constantly questioning everything, and trying to hear people's opinions. Each time he killed someone he would have questions, as each of them always said that they were doing things for the good of others. So it's interesting, but Altaïr kinda didn't trust Al Mualim all that much, and he caught on to it pretty quickly. Also, the things he says when he interrogates people show his knowledge and wisdom on things. I wouldn't say he's the smartest Assassin, but definitely that he deserves more credit. Also, there are two other portable games about Altaïr, which weren't covered in this review.
    As for Bayek, I think he was pretty intelligent, and wise, but like, there weren't many situations like the old games where he had to use his intelligence in the same manner. (I still have yet to play The Hidden Ones DLC, so we'll see). Apart from that, he's an excellent hunter and tracker. And he knows how to solve crime scenes pretty well. So yeah, smarter than he looks.
    As for Arno and Jacob; there were murder cases they could solve (and yes, the same murder cases could be solved by Evie, and there was no difference, but still), it shows that they do have good deductive skills.

    I disagree heavily. Just because Altair made a few mistakes based off emotions such as saying you told his son you told him you ordered his death or arrogance that he learns from doesn't take away from everything he did. Altair is the smartest assassin for me. Altair is both smart and wise which in cohesion with his skill makes him the most deadly imo. Evie is also intelligent.

    Extraordinary Genius. Altaïr was raised at the Assassin fortress at Masyaf and quickly rose through the ranks of the Order to become one of the most respected and feared Assassins in the Brotherhood, second only to its leader, Al Mualim. A cold and objective man, Altaïr fully devoted himself to whatever course he chose to pursue. He had a proud nature, and was often impetuous, demanding, arrogant, and impatient. However, after his failure at Solomon's Temple and commencing on a mission to redeem himself, Altaïr began pondering the motivations of his targets after listening to their final words.
    Altaïr was a Master Assassin, capable of extraordinary acrobatic feats and versed in the application of deadly arts. Trained extensively, he was able to overcome any obstacle, human or terrain, climb the tallest towers and leap from the highest ledges without a hint of fear. Like other Assassins, he was also trained in stealth assassination techniques, hand-to-hand and weapons combat, and blade throwing. His noncombat skills included climbing, urban acrobatics, eavesdropping, interrogation, and pickpocketing. He also had extensive knowledge of Holy Land politics and religion, which helped him better understand his opponents. Once he gained access to the Apple's powers, he begain introducing new techniques to all the fields required for an Assassin to be perfect, like stealth, disguise, killing from the shadows, reconnaissance, combat skills, adaptability, advanced weaponry, using advanced tactics and much more. According to Niccolò Polo, at the age of 92 Altaïr retained the same strength; stamina and skill he had in his youth, possibly due to renewed training when he reclaimed the title of Mentor.
    Altaïr also possessed Eagle Vision, a "sixth sense" or intuition that allowed him to see a person's true intentions. Due to this gift, Altaïr had heightened intuitive abilities and senses, along with his sharpened fighting skills. Altaïr's skills made him one of the most deadly and adept Assassins in the Order's history, and they were legendary even after his death.
    Altaïr was also a skilled artist, and his Codex was heavily illustrated. In it he drew blueprints for Hidden Blade modifications; manuals for assassination techniques, maps, and even a detailed sketch of his wife, Maria, bordered with hand-drawn flowers. Due to his extensive research on the Apple thanks to his extremely fast learning skills, he had written several thousands of books dedicated to the Apple's knowledge alone in an extremely short amount of time and even made a library for them using advanced materials that even steel could not penetrate. As mentioned in his final confrontation with Abbas, Altaïr claimed to have seen many things about life, death, the past and the far future, thoroughly indicating that Altaïr had even learned about modern technology itself. He had invented advanced alloys as new materials for his Hidden Blades, alloys that were rare even in the modern world, and he even built an armor set far more advanced and lighter than anything else existing in the modern world, and he destroyed its formula in fear of the technology being too powerful for mankind to use. He was even trying to uncover the true origins of human life and why they existed, but having just started in the last years of his life, this meant that he would never finish his work. Even in death he would still occasionally hallucinate with the immense amount of knowledge he had gained in his entire lifespan and when spending a few moments on the Apple alone.

    Connor is one of my favorite assassin's. Yes, he was naive. He comes from a culture that just wanted to live without persecution. You can't call someone stupid for having a passionate response to the raping and murdering of his people. Most conservatives find it "tyrannical" to wear masks during covid, so you can see that one of these things has a lot more meaning and gravity to it. (it's Connor).
    That being said, I really want a second game with Connor. A game that shows him growing into a legitimate Assassin with experience and drive beyond revenge. Etzio got three games just given to him. It's only fair that we get to see Connor mature into a well thought out Assassin. I'm always gonna hate Ubisoft for not giving me that second game. Connor deserved more. Like you said, Ezio was a childish kid driven by revenge. So why does he get a redeeming 2nd and 3rd game? Why not Connor as well?

    I'd say Altair is the wisest for he's the one who a lot if not most of the Assassins generations after him base their designs or ways on. He was also a revolutionary figure which takes a lot of smart too. Like, he led the assassins on multiple periods, even with the ego problems in his 20s-40s. He influenced them pretty heavily and even in a game like Unity you still feel the references to Altair's ways and teachings. I'd say Altair was at his best in his 90s. Ezio is definitely the most *mature* assassin, having grown from a brash, flirtacious rogue in the beginning of AC2 to a more understanding and calmer man in hell like halfway the game! Evie I'd say you're right on booksmart, I'd put her on the level of Hermione Granger, but, to be honest, she doesn't feel unique in her smartness or how she applies it imo.

Jacob and Evie Frye were great because of how believable it was that they are siblings cause of the way they talk to each other and fight with each other over their differences, they had a great story between the 2 of them and I also really loved Crawford Starrick and Lucy Thorne as the Templar villains and 1868 London was a fantastic setting for an AC game! My only complaint really was the combat system it just felt really off the way it was set up, not saying its a horrible combat system its just not the best one, I rate AC Syndicate a 9/10 overall great game!

    I really think people sleep on Edwards intelligence. While yes he makes quite a few mistakes throughout the story, leading to the deaths of many allies; he also -- with zero training mind -- was able to dupe both sides of the assassin templar conflict for an extended period of time. The ability to not only profit off of a conflict as complex and dangerous as that of the assassins, but to also constantly and voraciously place himself at the forefront of it; I believe it takes a large amount of foresight, ingenuity, and intellect to pull it off. In only 9 years, Edward went from being a poor privateer/pirate, to beating both the templars AND the assassins to the observatory -- and thus he is essentially able to play kingmaker. Not to mention he is also arguably the richest of all the assassins throughout history. He was the admiral of a trading fleet that conducted trade across 4 CONTINENTS. He was akin to the East India Trading Co. in terms of influence. Add on the power of the observatory (which he still had access to btw) and he had a tremendously terrifying amount of power at his disposal. In just 9 short years he went from being a nobody to the defacto King of the west indies, and one of the single most influential people on the planet.

    it's never fair to make a list like this because often times people are judged on what they learned growing up without taking into consideration their background and education.
    sure Connor may not have had the typical schooling like most people at that era did which made him naive but goodhearted, but he did accomplish a lot for a single person. he did as best as he could knowing what he knew about people, which wasn't a lot, and by the end learned a hard truth about humanity as a whole. i hope we get to play as him some day again because i wanna see him grow as much as Ezio did.
    another example is Altair. he started arrogant and selfish, but following his growth during Ezio trilogy he turned into someone that was able to grow the Assassin order into what it ended up being and kept the Apple of Eden well hidden and out of Templar hands for so many years. we also got glimpses into his life and thoughts and the knowledge he acquired growing older.
    my point is just because someone lives in the woods, is less than social and is driven by emotions (whether positive or negative) doesn't make that person less intelligent than they would be if given the proper learning tools, and it's not fair to judge them on lack thereof.
    i think the list should rather be about Assassins that made decisions that were intentionally on their part reckless and went against the Assassin order. frankly the top of that list would clearly be Arno (even my baby boy Edward would fit nicely on that list), but i have yet to play Syndicate so who knows.

      I have to disagree with you on Altair pioneering these moves. Keep in mind that Bayek with using these moves before Altair. Now, the obvious answer is that this is just a gameplay mechanic that carried over to a later game. But from a lore standpoint, you could say that the Levantine assassins were just not taught to assassinate in these simple basic ways. Regardless, I have a hard time believing that jumping on an enemy or stabbing them from a hiding spot was so revolutionary that nobody besides Altair thought of it.
