    Thank you so very much! I purchased a well maintained Nova several years ago, but it didn’t come with a manual. You were exactly correct at the end when you said this was a video manual! I have saved it for future reference. Learned several things I have been doing incorrectly. Maybe me & my Nova will be getting along better after watching this! 😆

    Thank you for the video. I have had my Apple Green Nova 900 for about 5 years and really haven't used it much. Your directions are very clear and easy to understand, and I realize some small details I was missing when setting up to sew with it.

    Thank you for this. I rescued one of these from a charity shop warehouse. Paid a reasonable amount as I thought even if it couldn’t be saved I could use the feet and other accessories for my lovely Bernina 910. Last week, it came back from the Bernina dealer, having had a minor repair and thorough service. Today I followed your excellent video to wind bobbin and thread. It sews like a dream, whispery quiet, precise. A delight, just as I hoped it would be.

    I’ve just inherited my 1977 Bernina Nova 900 from my Mum who's downsizing. It still has both original manuals and going by the purchase date, she was about 12 weeks pregnant with me when she bought it in Sydney after her Swiss friend raved about Bernina 😊

    My MIL gave me her sewing machine about 2016 or 2017… that was a few years before I learned to sew! I just started looking at the book that came with it and saw your video on TH-cam! Thank you for all of the useful information! I have a new Brother sewing machine that I love. I really want to keep the Bernina up and running! I also inherited my MIL’s first sewing machine…I haven’t spent a lot of time looking at it yet but it has these white “casette” things that get put in the machine to use it…I want to learn more about it! Thank you again for all the great information! ❤

    Thank you for this very informative video. It was really well shot; I could see everything you were doing and showing us quite well. I have a "new" to me Nova and have taken it to quilting class. It is MUCH lighter than my 1230, but still sturdy enough not to dance around the table when I sew fast. Great machine.

    Very helpful. Thank you. I've just restored this model after finding it in the local land fill recycling shed. It was missing the pedal (and a few other small issues), but I found an old Singer pedal that works well with this machine after removing the electronic board from the bottom and hooking the pedal rheostat directly in line with the motor. Works great.

      @@annamariapoelmann2611 there should be a spot for the plug. If it doesn't fit I'd get the exact match but most older ones would work as long as it's a Bernina foot

    What a lovely video! Thank you! I have a Bernina Nova that belonged to my grandma and I have been using it as straight stitch machine with the occasional zigzag stitch. I have found out that I have an overlock foot (#470) but I can't seem to make it work... do you know what kind of sitch I should be using? I tried C and G?

    • @megalorain
      @megalorain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He called it an applique stich and that's correct it's also your overlock stich! You can use the zigzag too you just want to make sure that your needle is going over that bar in the middle of the foot! This is my dream machine. I've wanted it for years! I have an Aurora 440 and LOVE it. I had an 1100 too that I gave to my mom. These machines are actually made to last forever! The entire concept is so beyond where our society is. .. oh well.. I know you enjoy this machine it's so glorious! The feet aren't too hard to find online. Depending on what you do I'd recommend at least a rolled Hemmer of any width. There is a foot for everything as they are also geared towards making clothes especially in this era! 🤩

    Awesome! A machine manual and sewing lessons! Thank you! I just picked up one of these, however it looks like it had a bit of a rough life! It is my first encounter with a bernina. I gave it a good wipe down but there is lots of rust and many of the markings are worn off. The redline suggesting upper tension is not apparrent. I heard that the bushings can be a problem on vintage berninas, so I haven’t plugged it in yet. Do you think the bushings are behind the two black big screws on the underside?

    • @InStitches

    Can you use universal needles with this machine or would you advise sticking to the 705B needles?

  • @dancingbearmama
    @dancingbearmama 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for this video. I am testing one out prior to purchase... I think the machine I'm looking at needs a thorough service. I was hoping to see if your "reverse" knob judders while you sew. Also I appreciate your reply to Mart B who was wondering about regulating the speed; this one takes off full speed, and is not smooth. Can an independent repair person find those capacitors, or is it proprietary to a Bernina repair shop?

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The reverse knob juddering could be lint build up in between the feed dogs and throat plate (needle plate). Try cleaning and oiling. It could also be a sign on seizing? The capacitors are off the shelf items and any repair person should be able to supply them. Thanks.

    Greetings from Spain and thanks for your work. Your video inspired to buy a Bernina Nova 900 and I love it! It is in beautiful condition. I had it professionally serviced by a Bernina technician when I first bought it, but then moved continents and didn't really get to use it until this week. It it running pretty well and the stitches are gorgeous. However, it is a little sticky when starting off on sewing a seam (more of a hesitation really) and it doesn't really like going slowly (same thing happens). Occasionally there is a little hiccup when it is running at normal speed. I checked and this does not result in a skipped stitch or anything. I was wondering if any of these symptoms sound familiar to you and what you might advise. As I said, it sews perfectly well, but I am wondering if I should be concerned about the issues I describe. I hope you have time to answer. I just bought a Singer Featherweight and so I'm off to watch your video on this machine. Many thanks! :)

    • @InStitches
      @InStitches  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! That could be a faulty capacitor in the foot controller. I have a series of videos on the Nova 900 but I can't remember if I specifically covered the foot controller capacitor. Thanks.

    Thanks for this nice information. I got myself a machine exactly like this in a thrift shop. I got is serviced, but noticed that my bobbin isn't winding properly. The bobbin winder clicks up very fast (I think you call it disengage) while it isn't full. Do you have any idea what might be wrong? Thanks again for making this video!

      I'm not sure exactly what you`re meaning but if it's taking off at full speed when you put your foot down a little then there could be a capacitor blown in the foot controller.
