[TAS WR] Resident Evil 4 in

- เผยแพร่เมื่อ 7 พ.ค. 2013
- Note: Do not compare Gamecube, PS2, 360, or PS3 speedruns to the RE4 Ultimate HD release. The Ultimate HD version has load times so fast, that it cuts off about 7 minutes compared to other versions.
A tool-assisted speedrun (TAS) of Resident Evil 4 (Biohazard 4 in Japan) for the Nintendo Gamecube. Unlike some other speedruns on TH-cam (called load game, or new game+), this one does NOT load a save file to begin with all special weapons (Infinite Rocket Launcher, PRL, Chicago Typewriter, etc) and uses no memory card or saves, and only "easy" and "normal" difficulties can be accessed. This means Leon begins with nothing other than his handgun and stylish leather jacket, and must collect weapons and money as the run progresses.
The Japanese version is almost identical to all other Gamecube versions of the game. The JPN and PAL versions are nearly identical, and have a speed trick used in Chapter 4-2, where Leon can blow up the boulder with a Rocket Launcher instead of the Dynamite. This trick cannot be done on the North American Gamecube version, but can be done on the XBOX360 and PS3 HD versions. The TMP glitch used in Chapter 3-2 is only possible on the Gamecube versions.
[From the TASvideos website]
Here at TASVideos, we strive to push games to their limits. The emulators we use allow for undoing mistakes with save/load states, slow-motion gameplay, and even in some cases utilizing robots to do our bidding. The purpose is to show a theoretical limit of how fast a game can be completed if a player has perfect timing and precision. It is only for entertainment, and not to replace those who do non-TAS speedruns, but rather a goal to achieve.
Using these tools, we overcome human limitations to complete games with extremely high precision, entertaining our viewers as our players tear through games at seemingly impossible speeds. The end result of this process is simply a series of key-presses which may be performed on the original hardware (in this case, a Nintendo Gamecube).
Note: About 5 minutes of blank loading screens are removed from the video to reduce video length. That is why the speedrun length is longer than the video length. - เกม

@@shokatali05 Surprisingly yes. Do I know you?
I love the little annotations in the video, never seen a tas do that. good stuff.
It's because it's impossible for most TAS we can see on TH-cam...
The majority of the TAS we are seeing are a copy from the website TASvideos, which is recording itself the gameplay videos : the speedrunner only submits the list of inputs he created.
In order to add such annotations, the creator of the TAS need to record (+edit) and upload himself, thus bypass the main website for TAS showcases :/
@@laplongejunior r.../whoosh?
@@chrissmith1152
Maybe, I'm not sure...
Those annotations are a really good addition, but in the current way the community works, it means it changed the whole way the TAS was processed for viewing.
In my personal case, I only knew about that stuff because a few french YT shows passed a lot of time explaining what TAS are and how verification works, and it's not something we think about when wating the final result on YT, right? ;)
laplongejunior what are TAS??
@@RonLambily Tool Assisted Speedrun. This guy is playing on an emulator, where he can make the game go incredibly slow, and uses that to make perfect plays and glitches frame by frame. He can also save at any point and go back if a mistake is made, and we call that a re-record. Then he records the whole game and make a video played in the game's original speed. That's a TAS :) Hope it helps 💜

I liked those little informative hints/exploits about this game.
I think it's awesome that you've annotated the video explaining all the tricks used--other speedrunners should follow suit
This was the first speed run I ever watched and to this day it still blows me away, I know it was a TAS but it looks like it was done by a machine, good job
19:38 Ashley's little fistpumps when Leon sends a Spaniard falling to his death is so adorable, I never noticed it before!

Per Webster's dictionary "cheating - violating accepted standards or rules". While any TAS could be looked at as technically cheating, the way TASes are completed are by playing a game without any internal or external modifications aside from savestating and recording gameplay at a per-frame level. Most "cheats" in a game are done by altering the code that is being run, or by manually entering in a code to achieve a desired effect. TAS videos typically do not do this, and exploit programming bugs or glitches that typically can't be done with normal human finger speed to push a theorhetical limit on how fast it can be completed. So yes, going frame by frame in a video game is, by definition, cheating, everything you see in one of these runs could possibly be done by a typical gamer with lightning fast reflexes. Not with "aimbots" and "god mode", but careful and deliberate timing and glitch abuse. That's what makes a TAS so fun to watch.
Imagine you were playing a game where it was so slow, that you could easily process exactly how you wanted to take a shot, or time a jump. That is pretty much what a TAS is. It plays the game at a slow speed, records all the inputs, and then plays it back at normal speed.
I apologize for boring anyone, but hey, you didn't HAVE to read all of this. ;) And hopefully it will bring a bit of insight into what's going on here.
ok, interesting anything to add more?
+Malla _ Ohhhh never noticed it
Atlink thanks for the comment. Someone actually took the time to explain what TAS is to people like me who are new to this type of gaming community... they are fun to watch to see what a game would actually look like played in perfect sequence, then use it to improve your gameplay
Atlink & monitor the frames it took to do what you did so you could really get things inhumanly perfect while still being human lol
So TAS is speedhacking the game and then re-playing it at normal speed just to see the theoretical limit of how fast you can do it?
12:58 Leon went a bit overboard with the "arrow to the knee" meme.
26:26 That made me laugh lol, poor cultist

WalkmanSilver hahaha i had that in mind when i watched this
Now that I've learned more about TAS and I speedrun this game myself, this run is incredibly impressive, the amount of time, resets and new routing that went into this run alone is absolutely astounding. Nice run
1:15:20 - For some reason, letting go of B for 2 frames makes Leon run thru the lasers
1:19:28 - I didn't activate ditman so I can use the R+c-stick quick turn trick. Pausing and switching weapons (in this case activating ditman at the same time too) cancels the turn animation
1:25:09 - Final merchant is faster, but only by a few frames
1:26:00 - I waited b/c Saddler's leg eyes haven't opened yet. The 3 flashes are a route planning error b/c I was going to use them until I found better strats

It's always awesome to watch this legendary TAS!.
Congrats on your TAS! You've explained every glitch you used. I hope all speedruners do the same you did. Congratulations on this work.
1:15:13 oh no, not the krauser knife fight that nobody is sick and tired of seeing at all because you can't. ever. skip it. EVER.
It was a memorible moment imo But Yeah after seeing it for the N millionth time yeah
I've heard that quite a bit from viewers such as yourself. I'm glad I'm able to convey the tricks and such to an audience well. Honestly, I think explaining what a player is doing should be the standard so so many people aren't confused.
I just discovered TAS, gotta say that you did an amazing job. Really amazing.
Man, that is so cool how you added the little snippets of info that explained what you were doing or how things worked. I really wish more TAS's did things like that
Btw I loved the comments on video. I think all TAS should be like this to explain better the "WTF Moments" in TAS.
WE NEED A NEW TAS OF THIS GAME WITH THE NEW STRATS AND ALL. PLEASE MAKE IT HAPPEN.
A very enjoyable TAS, nice to see this game being optimized in such a way finally to see the more difficult tricks usually ignored in the other speed runs.
I like the little explanations for the things you do.
Thumbs up!

i had such a blast. I love how you took the time to explain the walkthrough as u were doin' it. Thanks!
This is my favorite kind of TAS. You utilize all the tools that a TAS provides, and at those "What the hell just happened?" moments, you take the time to explain things and don't just assume the viewer knows every little trick. Thanks so much for making this such a fun watch!
LMAO 56:43. Balls of Steel.
"Where'd ya go? Where'd ya go?"
I would waste all of my striker bullets just to kill that monster
1:15:22 Leon doesn't care about lasers.
Holy crap, this is good. Highly entertaining and amazing to watch. Hats off to you~
This entire series will always be beyond amazing :)
This was the fastest, wackiest, and funniest speedrun I've ever seen xD
There are sooo many good parts that made me bust up laughing, I can't even count and tag them all
That poor dog :(
I feel the same
+MetalSonicodraco7342 I know freeing the dog would've wasted some time for the TAS, but maybe someone out there's making one where the dog's freed, just to cheer us up.
+Robert Jindra just a fuckin videogame who gives a shit about the dog
You're the worst kind of human being.

really good video! thanks for the time and effort! i never through it was possible to finish the game so quick! and thanks for the comments in the bottom! explaining why you do certain things is informative!
nice run, i really like the little notes throughout the video that explain little details. very nice touch

In the village 1-1, how many ganados do you have to kill to trigger the last cutscene, after the first cutscene with the villagers rushing out?
robbydax around 12 total
I really like the little notes you leave at the bottom of the screen; great presentation!
Amazing job on this TAS. I loved the commentary at the bottom of the video. I get really confused when I see someone do something in a speed run that makes no obvious sense but you did a great job explaining things.
Really like the video man, Do a new game+ TAS :)
Damn Ashley actually putting in work for once. lmao!!
Thank you for doing a CLEAN speedrun of this! I also like the annotations at the bottom; very informative to casual gamers!
I enjoyed that you put text explaining some things that you did, great video, I have made tas speedruns myself but never uploaded any.
This is my all-time favorite game. I have beaten it over 100 times on 4 consoles but never tried to speedrun it. Just wondering if you still love the game or has it lost all fun/challenge for you. This is an awesome speedrun. Congrats and thank you.
The game has pretty much no challenge any longer. Now that I know how to abuse enemy AI and know where all the treasures and best upgrades are, I don't see myself enjoying this game other than speedrunning it.
It's like when you download hacks for a game and play it with maxed out stuff.
I did that with Borderlands 2 and after uninstalling the hax I was like ":( Now it's no fun"
NickGaming same with oblivion. I palyed it on ps3 and it never got boring. I figured I would buy the pcversion for the console commands but that just ruined the game :(

this was a privilege to watch! nice work! by playing normal on GC for myself, im just over 2 hours 20 min, but watching this, I think I can improve my time in many areas, without the tools you used.

2:45 damn... Leon sure runs fast.
Delightful and informative. I can respect the amount of effort that went into this regardless of my personal stance on tool-assisted runs. Why is this being disliked?
The first frame headshot against the guy in the truck was absolutely breathtaking dude good job
So, I know this is a TAS so all those headshots at the cabin were resets and stuff, but let's pretend they're not for a second.
The standard handgun has a 1/10 chance to execute a critical headshot on any given round, I counted 18 critical headshots in a row, so with some basic math, if this wasn't a TAS and you did that, you just did something with a 1/100000000000000000 chance, a one in one hundred quadrillion chance
i'm asking myself how did he does it as well
@@normanveloso7231 it's TAS it's literally sculpted to be the most perfect speedrun you can get on this hardware, I would imagine that what he did (because he states that he didn't mess with the code of the game) is make a save state with the emulator he was using every time he hit a critical head shot and then reloaded that save state until he hits the next one, and repeats it until he gets the result he wants. Then just clips it together for the video
When your late for work 8:36
Amazing TAS, inside the castle and the mine cart were my favorite parts.
This was so entertaining ! Great work on the TAS !!
This could be way faster now with all the new skips, and routes they found.

Very smooth run and the commentary where you explain why you do as you do is great it makes the run very enjoyable to watch...good job bud :)
Do the exploits u used in the vid work on steam version?
They should, except for the TMP glitch.
at 43:38 What was that "aiming" :D
The power of TASing.
I really enjoyed watching this, well done sir !
Awesome speedrun dude on Resident evil 4 no joke keep up the excellent work.
How is it possible to run by the enemies so close, that they hit you, but you walk trough! Do you walk a specific ankle to avoid to get hit?
It depends on how the animations are rendered. This is a 30fps game, so framerate isn't too high. So if, say, one of the monks swings his scythe at Leon, and on frame 1 it is just about to hit Leon, but on frame 2 it appears on the other side of him, the hit detection fails. I noticed this a few times while making this TAS, and was able to abuse it on some parts. It is REALLY noticeable at 35:00, and you can see I slowed down my speed to get just the right spacing for it to work.
Ah okay! So it is not really easy to do that! ^^ How long took it to finish this TAS? Nice Work Really! And thanks for this easy to follow Answer! Kudos :) Greets from Germany!
AngusYoung1973x™ Greetings from Texas! It took about 4 months to complete.
Wow! :D Really good work Man! :) Enjoying it! One Last Question! Why didnt u use the Ditman Glitch earlier? So you can beat the Game faster? or are there some Parts where u are not able to use it? And nice to see how you troll your Enemies! They have absolutely no Chance, but they are trying so hard! But when CPU collides with CPU, one CPU wins! And that is you! One Step ahead everytime! :D
well, he can't use the ditman glitch before he gets the striker. also, there are some times when a door or a cutscene would break it and having to open the inventory twice to turn it on would actually be slower than just running.
1:15:22 I like how you explain almost everything but you don’t explain how you got through the lasers without dying.
dude... the dedication in this run is super!!! i subs instantly when i see how well he handles his shit
Dude, nice run, I don't like RE from 4 and on but a TAS is a TAS and should be watched, thank you sir!
5:29 Let me just point at you.
The WR is over 10 minutes faster now (1:21). Who will step up to the plate to make a new TAS?
Yeah, this tas is very old and needs to be updated.
