Sarah, you inspired me to dig my old school recorder out of my attic and start playing agin. Not only that, but I've started looking into starter instruments and books for my nephews and nieces. I'm so glad you reminded me of the joy this instrument brought me, and I cant wait to pass it on to the next generation.
Fun Fact: the Disney songbook my parents bought me as a kid came with a German style recorder, but now it comes with a baroque style instrument!!! Guess it's time for me to learn the Baroque fingerings, and so cool that the kiddos are learning it from the start now!!
Many people look down on the recorder but it is a wonderful instrument. Some of the greatest composers in history used this instrument to create their greatest masterpieces. This instrument is underrated by many. I wish I could make this instrument sing as well as you do.
Very beautiful piece and I love tenor sound. I noticed around the tone shift around 2:37 and then noticed your mouth switched to almost a edge-blown position like a flute. Is there a name for this technique? Is it something written in the music or just an artistic expression? Either way it is very beautiful.
This is an artistic expression, but the composer states in the program notes that you can be white free and expressive with ornaments, rhythm, etc. So I thought to add some air to my sound as an ornament!
I watched the whole concert yesterday!❤ So inspiring and creative, with the whole "help me choose" during the recorder past bit, and when you played Syrinx on the Eagle, it was so beautiful, as if Adri's spirit was soaring beautifully in mid air and being caressed gently by the melody 💜
Thank you for this. I'm a rock guitarist & composer. I've always shied away from the saxophone 'cos it wasn't the sound in my head. This is!! I'm a Tenor & write a lot for myself in A min...so... Tenor recorder going on order today. Thanks again !
I am very impressed by how beautiful the fourth tenor sounds, and how nicely it matches to Yoshimine’s Lullaby! Fourth tenor adds further warmth to that beautiful piece.
i think i learned baby's first version of lullaby last week, one of the final exercises in the first volume of my method book. worlds apart from this performance. thank you for sharing these performances, i strive to one day approach the levels of skill and proficiency demonstrated.
I have a vintage Adler recorder. Idk what kind, but it is wooden. It's a baroque tenor with a single key. I have no idea how to play it or take care of it 😢
Lullaby is a wonderful piece. I learned to play it a few years ago, but I am still improving on my performance. Can you please provide a link where people can order the score? I bought it directly from the composer and that is a nice additional joy. Be aware that a number of different versions exist. I prefer the handwritten! original score from 2013, which says molto rubato and gives a lot of freedom to the performer.
When I play my soprano recorder, do I need to sway my body and shake my head about as I play? I am a beginner, so this would be nice to know, as I could really get to moving about. I might even be able to develop an exercise program combination. 💚
French preludes from the baroque didn’t have much metrical information, so it’s up to the performer to provide the impetus. Swaying may help with that … or it might not. Try it both ways and see which one sounds better to you. 😊
Somehow only the Hotteterre bits get my full attention - Lullaby makes me feel kinda drowsy - but that's just me. What a nice sounding instrument. Soft but full but flexible but clear.
Brilliantly played by a player who is bringing back the legacy of recorders. Thank you Ms. Jeffrey
Thank you ❤️
Maravillosa maestría al hilar esos tres temas tan bellos. Y una flauta magnífica. Gracias Sarah por ser una persona tan inspiradora.
Excellent selections of music very calming and proficient playing

Beautiful Sarah! That fourth flute is absolutely gorgeous!
Such a sweet, warm, woody tone. 😌🌳

It’s so lovely isn’t it!
Fabulous ❤
“Lullaby” is such a lovely piece of music. I feel like that’s performance goals.
Really lovely. Thanks :)
That's lovely 🌹

Well played. French Baroque is such a joy to listen to. And I loved the lullaby.
Thank you!
It remembers me Van Eyck all the style of the music. Good morning and happy weekend.
Hi, Sara!! I wonder if there is a way to extend the range of a Yamaha tenor recorder... so that it could reach higher... I have a YRS-304B... Thanks!!
Sarah you're an excellent player ❤ we love you
I just bought a Mollenhauer modern alto recorder with E-foot in grenadilla from the Early Music Shop and gave you credit for the referral.
Oh, wonderful! Enjoy your new instrument 😊

Oh, I see Sarah did share the link to the sheet music in the video description now. Cool!

You don't need to, but many musicians move involuntarily along with the flow of their music.
French preludes from the baroque didn’t have much metrical information, so it’s up to the performer to provide the impetus.
Swaying may help with that … or it might not. Try it both ways and see which one sounds better to you.

please ma what's the name of this type of recorder?

Fair lady your so up there...i wish you give simple complete lessons on the recorder cause no one does...it might catch ☝
A or B-flat?
This recorder is in B-flat at baroque pitch (A=415 Hz), which corresponds to an A in modern pitch (A=440 Hz)
I adore your passion for Music. Please stick to Music and not Politics, you know one much better than the other.
When has she ever talked about politics?
