    Our schedule may vary, but expect a new video every Wednesday. Friday, and Sunday at 11AM Central!
    How Farms Work by Ryan Kuster is a TH-cam channel based in rural Potosi, Wisconsin.
    Our mission is to teach those who didn't grow up on a farm what the farming life is like.
    These videos show the Kuster family working together raising cattle and crops. We believe everyone who wants to know more about farming should be able to share the farming experience with us and we look to educate the world on many essential agriculture topics.
    How Farms Work takes place on ~1,100 acres with around 75-200 cattle at any given time. Four John Deere tractors are currently used on the farm, which are a 4020, 4640, 7600, and 8235R.

    I think it's safe to say that this "new" sprayer Travis bought and fixed up is a massive upgrade over the defunct one sitting in your shed. If it does the job well and allows you to avoid having to call for a self-propelled model from Nutrien to come out and do the same job, I'll chalk it up as a win. Who doesn't like winning? Thanks for the video.

    Here in the UK grass growing is a big thing and we always use nitrogen as well as P and K fertilisers normally in solid form which is far faster than spraying or alternatively a lot of slurry

    Liked the back lit shots at 7:48. That really showed the spray pattern. It'll be interesting to see what the results are once you go to cut it, if you notice more / thicker / higher crop when cutting, or obviously more bales in the fertilized area vs the non. Lookin' forward to some TROTS vids from Travis laying down fert on his new hay ground. And the belt - pure Yankee ingenuity. To steal a line from the movie Heartbreak Ridge - You improvised, you adapted, you overcame.

    I see I'm not the only one getting some random foliar trials done this year for the simple reason of "why not? It'll be fun!". Great video. I agree with the comment saying to spray at a higher speed. Those nozzles will probably spring to life with an extra 2mph, barring some other issue holding it up.

  • @philipnicholls9724
    @philipnicholls9724 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi there from the UK. I would say the only reason you were having a few issues was because you were going to slowly forward. The nozzles were too large for your forward speed, hence the low spraying pressure and it was finding it hard to overcome the anti drip diaphragms in the nozzle holders. Have a look out for a nozzle chart and that will be a good guide to what speed you need. Or just go a little faster or add some more water. You also need to keep the booms up, as you didn’t look to be covering all the ground between the nozzles.

    Hey ryan, couple questions for you. Are the fields more alfalfa or grass? Alfalfa is a legume and makes it's own nitrogen. We're have seen a good response applying gypsum on our hay fields. Ther hay needs ther calcium. Do you have any soil tests? Also another thing. My sprayer needs to be running at 25 to 30 psi minimum to Gerry the nozzles to tm on decent

But i think their ground up there is a lot better than central indiana, Im guessing. Has to be, or hes a liar on all their yields. And im not saying that, but even knowing the way to get best corn some farmers choose to not pay high fertilizer bills and just take the loss. In a real farm world... Hes just wasting time here whether you look at it. Unless thats all the side dressing they do if they dont pre plant anhydrous. Def dont think they pre plant annie

    If you were spraying product on plants, like a weed killer, you would want more of a mist. Those nozzles might be too large unless you up the volume and drive faster, but that might be hard on the sprayer if the ground is rough. For fertilizer it might be okay as it puts the product into the ground more than on the grass.
