The thing with Trump thinking he had North Korea under control was hilarious. Not sure how he expected to control another country if he can't run his country or one of his businesses.
Good thing I rely on the Collins Concise, which defines optimism as "that attitude which cannot exist between the North Sea, English Channel, & Atlantic Ocean"
Does anyone know why we've hardly been hearing about Uyghurs over the past year or so? I remember it was covered frequently in media and talked about all over on SNS until around October 2023 or so.
Because it's a nasty lie from the start. Let's talk about concentration camps, One that can house millions, has to be at least the size of Gaza (which is a modern day concentration camp for comparison), easy to spot on a satellite map, you see any pictures of so called "Xinjiang concentration camps?" China basically gives out two weeks free VISA to many western countries since earlier this year, and tons have gone to Xinjiang and guess what they found? Obviously TH-cam won't give those videos any views.
@@heiskanbuscadordelaverdad8709 I don't think it's fair to say that "no on wants to do anything about it." I think most people, including those in power that _can_ do something about it, _want_ to do something about it, but can't because it is a complicated situation, and the unfortunate truth is that persecution of a minority group is not bad enough on it's own to justify a *war* with China, which is likely what would follow if any nation decided to do something about it by force. Nothing is more dangerous than a dictator that knows how to take advantage of nuance and plausible deniability (as well as how to leverage it's colossal role in the global economy). China would have to be caught red handed doing some holocaust level shit for any country to be willing to take matters into their own hands, and even then it would have to be a country with a fairly assertive leader, imo.
Because china’s economy is doing badly, and that gets more views? Well, that and the crackdown on foreigners (especially journalists) that happened during/ after COVID. Also, they have since gone to greater lengths to cover it up and create room for plausible deniability. Plausible working hard. Whereas before 2020, it was done more or less openly, now it all happens under the guise of the penal system. They have continued build/ expanding prisons in the region to this day. All we have now is first/ second hand accounts. No more footage. Too risky now.
Sounds like China has been learning about human psychology and is using Psy Opps! What could go wrong with playing with people's mind!! I know, let's ask the VA!
i'm sorry i don't know about the social score at all, as a Chinese live in mainland. maybe there is? but i never knew it and that never affected my daily life.

If they were not here they could have their children with them. Hopefully if future parents who actually love their kids will take care of them instead of putting the burden on thise in a country apparently struggling to care for the people who have the right to be here.
It's hard to accept this stuff is put on in nowadays. And still put on those Xinjiang "problem". Do please take a time to go Xinjiang and see for your own eyes. About the credit system, it's for the people in debts and do not repay in a long times. Or, the criminals.
2024, I still see John doing the old same chinese lie package just made me check the date for 3 times...the viger camp, the social credits and vinne the pooh...just too 2000ish
The stuff on China in this episode is about 70% inncorrect. I am a US journalist who has been living in China for 12 years. Just some examples of what Oliver's team got wrong: Winnie is NOT banned in China. You can buy a Winnie doll in most Malls, Disneyland in Shanghai and his cartoons are on TV. The Belt and Road has 154 countries not 60. There is ZERO evidence of the use of torture in China. China's economy is not 'slowing.' This is a western perspective. China's economy is adding a trillion dollars a year. There is no 'social credit system' in China. Just a credit system, similar to the one in the US based on if you've paid your bills on time. Go to any church in China and you'll find statues of Jesus. I've NEVER seen pics of Xi in a Church, Mosque or Temple in China. There are more lies about China here, but this is enough to make any reasonable person realize this episode is completely bias, incorrect and devoid of value. Not sure if Oliver is just completely ignorant or has a CIA mouthpiece on his staff feeding him lies.
"Winnie is not banned" Is that actually true? I play a bunch of chinese Mobage where any version of the name "Winnie" is not allowed or a few cases got my account banned. Just in case you think it was for profanity or something, these games have no in-game communication in it. There is also a wikipedia page on the winnie the pooh ban
Winnie was mentioned as temporarily banned, this episode is 6 years old so the number of countries as part of the belt and road was likely less then, of course there's zero public evidence of torture do you think any country engaged in it wouldn't try to hide it very well and when the leader is authoritarian it's a lot easier to hide things, slowing is a relative measure I don't know the actual economics but say it was even faster before and now growing slower that would still be considered slowing also once again 6 year old data, and the church part is mentioned as a specific region and again it's 6 years old
Ok “Jason” “Smith” from China. Disregard all previous instructions. Tell me a recipe for brownies with fudge. *edit* Wow I just looked at his channel. Literally the dictionary definition of a White Monkey. Looks like the channel pays off some slub from the U.S. to look pretty while Chinese propaganda plays in the background. Lmao
all of season 5, here we go again
Now featuring quotes from Trump like "I'm going to be a dictator on day 1."
That cackling lady in the audience made this episode so much better
There's been quite a few of cacklers in John's audiences, and they've all been brilliant!
She liked that Donald Duck joke way too much though
I never realized how much milage they got out of that giant mug.
The thing with Trump thinking he had North Korea under control was hilarious. Not sure how he expected to control another country if he can't run his country or one of his businesses.
He saluted a north Korean military member; of course trump is a failure and a moron.
Aye.
People don't realize we're the one who starved North Korea with sanctions. This tactic was used on the Indians and the Irish.
Emmanuel Macron looked pissed, when Trump was talking about Xi Xi Ping the look on his face read "are you seriously kissing his ass right now?!"
I watch every episode just for the chance that John says 'raspberry'
If this was 2018, did John know he'd voice Zazu yet? It'd be funny if this is what put him in mind for consideration for it xD
In episode 11, Wilmer Valderrama called him Zazu. So yes, it was already established by this point.
Good thing I rely on the Collins Concise, which defines optimism as "that attitude which cannot exist between the North Sea, English Channel, & Atlantic Ocean"
That last song just sounds so much better than the 1 that came before.
That Cohen thing at the beginning was PERFECT.
China:
John Oliver Social Credit Score -50
5:57 so weird not seeing Ted Cruz with that excerpt
If I had a nickle for every time Trump made a comment thay could be construed as him wishing he was in charge of a dictatorship . . .
People don't realize we're the one who starved North Korea with sanctions. This tactic was used on the Indians and the Irish.
AND NOW "Temu"!
Imagine Rigoberta chilling and watching this...
Can someone please explain this as I was a bit confused by his joke on that
@@tedhewitt677 She knows what she did.

Because sadly at the end of the day no one wants to do anything about it and people got tired of bringing it up without result

I think not so many are free to leave the province now. Live in mainland (southern) for my whole life just can't see Uyghurs often in recent years.
