This could have benefitted from someone having ChatGPT up so they can ask it follow up questions in real time. When Zach asks "well what is manageable power?" ChatGPT could answer and they'd have a little more to go off of, whether or not it's a good answer
I’m doing quite a bit of work with AI in my job and what I’m finding is exactly what you guys were discussing which is to say the quality of the answer is VERY dependent on the quality and phrasing of your question and to get really good information usually requires an iterative question/answer session and some further research on the answer you get to make sure the AI is just not completely down a strange path. Great show!
the AI's have largely been lobotomised. Comparing them to the builds available just a year ago is wild. They have been trained to be "moderate and friendly" above telling any truths. Your guess is as good as mine as to why, but asking chat gpt something is essentially asking a buzzfeed writer.
I am super excited about these Chinese bikes, not because I want one, but because they will force the Japanese companies to compete with them. The Ibex 450 is a perfect bike on paper and I can't wait for the inevitable Japanese version. Thank you, CF Moto, for stirring the pot.
Unless the competition decides that 'bottom line', what CF Moto is selling, becomes the goal. Until we see how the market responds, I'll remain hopeful too.
Zack, Spurge, AI can tell us curb weights and 0-60 times better and faster than you. Ask AI how a bike FEELS doing footless stops, and it doesn’t know. It will read what Zack wrote and not even give him credit.
I’m a VFR guy forever, and Honda let it die. That, and Honda’s history of teasers like this and then doing nothing, just can’t give me any belief it will actually happen.
At the risk of repeating something that has already been posted, I think there would be value in posting shorter videos taken from the long form podcast featuring "Not the News"', "Engine Sound Guessing Game", comments and reviews, etc. Personally, I find it difficult to devote the time to consuming the long form podcast, especially on a weekday. I think the shorter videos would increase engagement and, in the long term, bring more visitors to the long form podcast. Just my 2¢.
I am not afraid of what we can AI right now, as you find out that a lot of it's answering came more from a marketing media more than from actual use and / or experience. And with something like riding a motorcycle or anything that is a physical action, it can only give an answer from a human who said it first. AI is just a fancy search engine that gives a response in a simulated manner of the appearance of a human. To quote a great movie, how could machines know what tasty wheat tasted like?
For the hardest thing to learn I'd say F. It just gave you a blanket answer about every basic not one most difficult thing. That being said, it's important to know these, yes. best I'd go is C-
I've only watched the first question but I concur with Lance about the quality of the question mattering a lot. You complained of a generic answer but you gave a generic question. I asked it what are the pros and cons of a CF Moto 450 SS versus a Kawasaki Ninja 400.. That's the kind of question you need to ask if you want a specific answer
The problem with generic answers is that there are no generic people. This episode is showing me why knowing how to intuitively prompt AI is going to be a key component of future jobs
Best starter bike is a Honda grom. Learn on it for a year and sell it for about what you paid for it. Then go to to 400-600cc bike depending on they style of bike you like and to get some highway experience.
I have a 2017 R9T and would prefer longer valve checks but I'm guessing the new model is still pretty much using the very old air/oil cooled engine that the R9T started with so same interval.
Its using the same engine, the only way to increase intervals is to go liquid cooling, the constant fluctuation in temp of a high performance aircooled engine is means you should check it more often. which isnt the point of the rninet. I would hate it if the rninet went liquid cooled, thats what the r1200r is if you want that
my AI said that the greatest sport bike of all time is a ducati 916. no other answers, just the one. I would argue it has to be some kind of V4. as thats becoming the most dominate engine. but the gxsr750 will always be the greatest for all situations. its always in the top 3 of any skew you put to "the greatest"
"Mr. Dunbar, may I go to the bathroom?" All students will raise their hands before speaking and wait until the end of the lesson for questions. Now, as I was saying...
The biggest thing I see with AI is no accountability. You can’t argue with AI. If AI says that the Chinese bikes are great, the AI doesn’t even know what it’s saying is true or not.
Going by the grading curve for the first question, the hosts and the guests would also get Bs and Cs without the additional discussion. The AI answer would have been similarly refined with some additional follow up questions. :)
Right. The major issues I'm seeing so far, nearly halfway into this is the poor AI prompting. Ask a generic question and you'll get a generic answer and the problem with that is there are no generic people
Have to disagree with Zack on his beginner bike recommendation. He says a 350 CC beginner bike is too heavy, hard to handle, but he recommends a Yamaha 650 CC bike? Most beginner riders would fail their motorcycle test on a 650CC anything.
As an owner of a 350 Royal Enfield, I agree that it's not a very good beginner bike. It's a great bike for mature riders who don't ride on highways. Like myself. I do a lot of country roads and city traffic riding. But your typical beginner just wants a smaller, cheaper, less powerful version of his big, fast and expensive dream bike. A mini sports bike, mini naked bike or mini adventure bike... RE 350 ain't none of those things.
The Hippocratic oath stipulation is FIRST, do no harm. As near as I can figure, the brilliant minds behind AI are quite likely to take a different perspective i.e. allow no harm. Sorry, but I prefer to make my own mistakes.
Not to be a dickhead but I’d say Honda has a bit more experience building motorcycles than you do. They wouldn’t do this if there weren’t benefits for the bottom line of the company. Maybe it is just an attention getter, who actually knows outside of Honda, but that’s not typically Honda’s style. They’re pretty conservative as a whole. But who knows? They did build that oval pistoned engine back in the day so maybe they’ve gotten a wild hair up their ass. The 44 teeth guys were excited about it too so it’s stirred up the journalists at least.
AI driving my motorcycle needs to come with a state sponsort brain implant to me, telling the AI when i feel AI driving too sporty for me at the moment. AI is nothing outside the loop.

Could AI replace Zack as the Daily Rider , I don't think so .
I want that 3cyl Honda purely so I can name it the “Shocker”. 2 in the front 1 in the rear. 😂
Anyone notice that the bookmarks for this episode on the timeline are the ones from last week? LOL
I did too.
I was going to make a snarky reply asking if they used an AI to mark those

The correctly constructed prompt is the key!

37,000 mile valve checks on a KTM? So it sounds like you don't have to do a valve check for the life of the bike then?
I’m a VFR guy forever, and Honda let it die. That, and Honda’s history of teasers like this and then doing nothing, just can’t give me any belief it will actually happen.

Blew a motor on a cf moto because the filter popped off and they replaced the motor for free even though it was past warranty
In summary, the best answer to all questions seems to be "it depends." 🙃

FYI: There are several GPTs in the explorer that are dedicated to Motorcycles. I haven’t tried them yet.
Yay Lance is on. Love listening to Lance

I asked gpt to only pick one for the best sport bike and went for the ducati 916, i think gpt listen to your podcast.
HD vs Indian. Scant mention of the Harley Davidson lineup of electric motorbikes, arguably the top of the heap in that category.
"Mr. Dunbar, may I go to the bathroom?" All students will raise their hands before speaking and wait until the end of the lesson for questions. Now, as I was saying...

If someone made up an Urban Legion and it was repeated over and over on the internet it would be considered fact by AI.
Going by the grading curve for the first question, the hosts and the guests would also get Bs and Cs without the additional discussion. The AI answer would have been similarly refined with some additional follow up questions. :)

@kgrant67 yes - it's a plot device to get a discussion going, I guess. I can live with that.

Has to be "Monster in my pocket" right?
Great show :D
yall need to ride the new harleys. a lot more tech on them now
No really small motorcycles as recommended beginner bikes. Does AI know you are in the U.S?
AI is scanning everything so there are more mentions on the internet for older bike because they have been around longer.
The Hippocratic oath stipulation is FIRST, do no harm. As near as I can figure, the brilliant minds behind AI are quite likely to take a different perspective i.e. allow no harm. Sorry, but I prefer to make my own mistakes.
Why? V-3, Doesn't that make packaging difficult? Doesn't that make manufacturing expensive? It does get attention at EICMA but what a waste of energy.

Indian or Harley? Better built or better engineered? Indian better engineered.

AI is only helpful if you know what question to ask.
