    Makes me a bit sad to see all the dislikes. Most are because Let these huge fish go. But some people don't realize how old these fish are and what they mean to the reproductive state of the lake.

    My Grand father built a house on a lake in Michigan in the early 60's. My Dad, and grandfather were using huge shiners for Bass fishing. My Older Brother, and I were using big NightCrawlers for anything that would bite. We were drift fishing a large point, and all of a sudden we started pulling in Monster BlueGills, as seen in this video. For the remainder of the year we fished that area, until no more Bluegills were to be had. We had literally fished that area clean of all those Huge BlueGills. We ate those delicious fish, as that is how fishing was back in the day. Little did I know back then, that we were emptying the Damn lake of BlueGills. The lake was full of small BlueGills after that, all the monsters had been eaten by us.

    Awesome to see you let those big ones go. Most people don't know that keeping bigger blugills destroys the fishery. We should be letting all bluegills over 9 inches go. Nice show, enjoyed the content.

    Fantastic video! I'm an older guy and I've kind of fell in love with the cheapo yellow bass pro microlite glass rod (noodly) in 6 1/2 ft.and 4 lb test on a 25 presiential and it's as fun as any fishing there is. These fish are strong this size and I sometimes wonder what I have as well til they start swimming in circles. I've had good luck with several colors and mixed colors really liking black with a chartreuse tail. This type of fishing is so overlooked that people miss out on alot of fun and they filet well this size, again great video!

    I use to catch bluegill that were so wide my hand wasn't big enough to hold them I had to step on the or put them between my knees .That creek was in the estuaries of the Neuse river in N.C. Down were it begins to get brackish. One year a Red tide CAME out of the ocean and for some unexplained reason it mostly settled into that creek call goose where those huge bluegill were. It killed 95 % of the indigenous fish in that creek.That creek was tide controlled and thusly it received what ever fish swam in the ocean occasionally. Now as far as I know that creek is recovering but it's very slow. The last time I fished it was in the mid 90s. Not one single fish was caught out of a days fishing. Red Tide is a killer

    One of my fellow fisherman would please give me & my 65 yr old Dad the tips on the best most effective way to "work" the jig? We just can't figure it out. Please & thanks.
    -Eric & Glenn

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Eric A Honestly Eric you can't go wrong with a plain hook and leech or a worm for bluegills. If you are gonna use a jig I would suggest a white twister grub 2" long or a small pink and white tube jig. Cast them out and slowly reel them back and jig them a foot or so up-and-down

    Love those big bluegill! QUESTION....why do you backreel instead of setting your drag? Just curious, is there a benefit or just preference?

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Mike Aeschlimann Thanks!! When using backreel with monofilament line it eliminates line twist all together as where when you use your drag it creates it.

    That makes me feel a little better, that its private. I thought everyone has great public waters by me.

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i_fish We do have a few great public lakes for huge gills but sadly when the word gets out they get hammerd and people keep limits and limits of these big gills and decimate the lake =(

    • @ifishcatfish
      @ifishcatfish 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      330 MaNiaC yup. The fate of all public property is to be plundered. I like UK better - all lakes are private but access is available. U pay 10 bucks but there is fish in the lake. Private owner takes good care if the lake, does not allow littering or poaching, stocks fish and enforces the right limits. And if he doesnt, nobody will pay him. I would love to pay 20$ to cone catch bluegills like that.

    • @330Maniac
      @330Maniac  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      i_fish Man I love that!! Wish Minnesota had more places like that. I do have some public lakes that people don't know about yet and i try to keep it that way. But all it takes is a few people knowing and before you know it 100 of then out there on a weekend fishing

    Nice video and very nice bluegills. These are my favorite fish and many of my vids on my channel focus on big gills and pumpkinseeds. Glad to see other fishermen release large panfish as they are the most vulnerable of species to over harvest, especially larger adult bluegills. I have been releasing all bluegills over 10 inches for the past 20 + years. Recently C&Red an 11.75 hen that we estimated at 2-pounds from a local pond with hopes that she'll be a 12-incher next year! Good job, I liked and subscribed and invite you to check out "Release the Beasts" and other bluegill vids on my channel...I think you'll enjoy them!
