In the first Men in Black movie, Agent K (played by Tommy Lee Jones) is a veteran of a secret government organization responsible for monitoring alien activity on Earth. When his partner retires, K recruits a young NYPD officer, James Edwards (Will Smith), who becomes Agent J. Together, they protect the planet from extraterrestrial threats. It turns out that K had hidden the Light on Earth to protect it, but now Serleena is close to finding it. J also discovers that his love interest, Laura, is actually the daughter of the Zarthan queen, and the Light is hidden within her. In the climax, K and J defeat Serleena, and Laura leaves Earth to protect the galaxy. K resumes his role as an agent, and they continue their work together.
In Men in Black 3, the plot involves time travel. A dangerous alien named Boris the Animal escapes from a lunar prison and travels back in time to kill Agent K, who had captured him in 1969.
